@gypsysisterlove4 I saw him on an interview with the BBC and he was helping Romanies in the Uk. They asked him why he was helping them and he said, his mother was a Gypsy. Yul Brynner led a four man team that presented a petition to the United Nations for Romani membership in 1978, and has served as representative on the UN Economic and Social Council and in UNICEF. If your dad was involved you should be proud of him, well done.

Hey,Sasha, It's me Steve, your friend in Hawai'i. Stand by for a shock. Mr. Brynner was not Russian. He was Ukrainian Gypsy. I never met the man, but my father was good friends with his father. I don't think my dad would lie to me. I had the utmost respect for Mr. Brynner. He was my 2nd favorite actor, (After John Wayne, of course). B;). Yes, I wear glasses. Take care, my friend. Yul Brynner was indeed Russian, born in 1920 to a Russian mother, and a Swiss/Mongolian father. During the period after the revolution, and after the family was abandoned by his father, Yul and his sister Vera were taken to China, specifically Harbin. A large Russian Orthodox community emigrated there after the revolution. His sister lived in New York and would go to church in the Orthodox Church of St. Seraphim. Mr Brynner would on ocassion also come.

I was able to locate it through Google. Someone anonymously has uploaded The Gypsy and I album on to the internet and has made it available. So I was able to listen to those fabulous songs once again - Camille
