Wow, looking at this just reminds me of Hitchcock's great sophistication. The murder mysteries we see to day could only hope to make their stories as good as this. Well told.

The gun shot, apart from the red flash, apparently (i seem to remember reading) the hand holding the gun is a plaster cast of a large hand and larger gun, something to do with the focal depth or something. Have a look at the hand when it turns sideways.

I love the way Hitchock faces the camera to the gun as he shoots. Clever work. seen it so many times and still just as good. The old sweet professor is fantastic!
