  • But i didin't want something like "AAAAAAAH!". That was good. :-)

  • Focus is perfect. Now we realize that there was and is no way the album would have been recorded otherwise.

  • @Vitaminnn07 Does Paul still smoke weed (alot)?

  • I agree with ChronoPhoenix, the original vocoder voice was better. Better live especially, but otherwise as well. The vocals on the new album seem a bit more high pitched, but I'm not sure if it's because of the effect or not. Whatever the case was Traced in Air and Focus are completely different from each other, one is prog (death) metal and the other is a bit more mainstream sounding prog rock IMO. Both clearly Cynic albums though.

  • actually he restarted studying classic guitar.

  • aeon spoke has a slight jazz sound but overall a laidback sound, they're coming out with new stuff this year for that band.

  • The vocals on the new album are killer. i love how he put an emphasis on melody with them.

  • This guy is really lay back...his music is killer good. I like all the new songs I've heard from the new Traced in Air album...an original band indeed.

  • When i first heard Cynic i was like... "A band with Robotic vocals?! YES!" ive always liked the vocoder effects. I think Paul uses "Auto-tune" for the effect now.

  • I sincerely prefered the old school robovox, coz imo it fits better with metal genre.

  • it's good to see that such a humble artist like Paul just brings such a great sound to metal, plus its also good to see no utube fights on thes vids or any of that bullshit , lol !! long live the creativity and uniqueness of bands like Cynic, and to hell with all that scene-core stuff, that stuff's gonna die out real soon !

ps thanx for posting vitaminnn07, u the man !!

  • Hmmm...you meant sister, didn't you?:D

  • Now he probably didn't, there aren't many girls that listen to death metal, let alone fusion/progressive stuff Masvidal does. That makes you incredibly cool tho.

  • I think the new album Traced in Air has an amazing quality. It really shows their growth as great musicians.

  • Paul Masvidal is a very talented and unpretentious person. The sign of a true artist!

  • (I apologize for my poor English, but it isn't my first language! And all Italians are pretty bad at languages)Anyway, Cynic and Paul's work helped me to become more musically open-minded, since they introduced me to many great bands: Mahavishnu Orchestra, for example...and Dead Can Dance.

I like almost everything from Paul's projects: Portal, Aeon Spoke....even Master :D

  • Well said :) You did just fine bro!

  • But after hearing live the new songs, I have to say that I am pretty faithful about the new album. Sure, it seems less agressive and maybe less complicated than "Focus", but still, a very inspired songwriting I think.

  • yes, after listen a lot to it, i think is less agressive, but also i think is MORE complicated than "focus", get the album ;)

  • I agree with you, the new album may be less agressive than Focus but definitely more mature and complex (with a wider range of emotions). It has multiple layers. Every time you hear a song from it, new layers get peeled back. I don't get tired of listening to it.

  • Yes, I have. I also have some videos, but of very poor quality. Great show, though.

Well, I didn't know about his smoking habits :) (even if I kind of imagined it after seeing his interview with Death back in '91..."climbing inside the eyelash of a distant fear"! What the hell?!:D)

  • What was that "yaaaaahhhhhhh"?!:p

I admire this guy so much. I met him this year in Italy, and he was supernice and very humble.
