  • Cool

  • @zVirusX11, Daryl K. Royal memorial stadium...in 88 it was old school astro-turf. May as well have been cement

  • I thought Miles was 45??? yet he is playing in this game

  • @ThePi987654321 Miles was 35. Chris Comer was 45. Miles had quit the team already.

  • @ThePi987654321 yeah the movie changed alot of things like Miles is really the Full-Back and not the tail. he was #35. and after he got hurt many believe that Comer was the better running back because he ran through people.

  • QB TAKE OUT! 0:12 ahha

  • #32 on dallas carter was a freak of nature

  • I lived in Texas when I was in the military and I always thought it was comical the way they all put a premium on high school football. This whole business about the Carter player failing a grade and still playing. Happened all the time down there. It was common knowledge that schools bent over backwards to make sure their best talent was on the field. I knew several kids, who were good players, but had an absolute raw hatred for their parents for forcing them to play that ridiculous game.

  • in the movie wasnt this game played in the astrodome for the national championship? i knew it was too good to be true

  • @13craj In the movie, it's played in the astrodome for the Texas State championship. This game was the semifinals... Carter won and played for the championship the next week which they won. They then had to forfeit their title.

  • @goten1214 why did they have to forfeit it

  • @letsgoduke15 Gary Edwards (I think #21 in this video?) had failed a class. They went back and changed his grade, but the UIL found out about it. There was a huge investigation and whatnot, but eventually the UIL made them forfeit it.

  • @goten1214 whats the UIL im from ohio idk about texas stuff we have the ohsaa which is ohio high school athletics association is it like that

  • @13craj the movie is based on the 1989 team.

  • @Ifucklikeabeast559 - Actually, the movie is based on the 1988 team.

  • Worst turf ever.

  • WTF are they playing on sement?

  • @zVirusX11 cement bro.... comon

  • @zVirusX11 no that's just what turf looks like when it has a massive amount of water on it maybe if you were not a retard who spelled cement "sement" you would know that

  • @zVirusX11 thats just how old turf was when it got really wet

  • I just found out Micheal Crabtree went to Carter and Roy William went to Periman

  • @cq9256 Stony Case went to Permian, although he may be a little before your time. Jesse Armstead played for this Carter team, but again, he may be a little before your time.

  • @goten1214 Was Clifton Abraham on this Dallas Carter team, by any chance?

  • @goten1214 wait the jesse armstead that played for miami in the NC?

  • @MATT84z Yep! That's the one. He went on to play a few years for the Giants.

  • @goten1214 nice i never knew that

  • @cq9256 Duhh. Im from Permian Class of 2002

  • @cq9256 roy williams is in the movie he is one of the midlan coaches

  • Common guys! Permian, Plano, Southlake, Judson, Euless, Katy, etc. all have had great teams... no need to put them all down. MOJOfan here!

  • @carmanintexas yeah they have but a few of those teams are on the slide if i may so im also a mojo fan from australia not just because of the movies been a long time fan and try and watch when i can i have family that live in/ near the area ... enjoy the games this year though hope mojo makes the playoffs , touch competition coming uo all the best mate :)

  • I'm so glad that In I live in Indiana where football is a joke and Basketball is King cause you guys are way to serious WOW

  • I love how they made Carter look like thugs in the movie. But here I don't see any indication of that. Typical Hollywood portrayal of blacks..

  • @whayes8084 They're best 2 players (Derric Evens and Gary Edwards were sentenced to 20 and 16 years in prison.. The book went into depth about how they were basically thugs.

  • The 1980's was probably the best era of high school football.

  • Hey now, I went to Carter.

  • i guess thats why they never punted LOL

  • Friday Night Lights made me hate Dallas Carter. Than again I hate black people.

  • @NehemiahTheGoon As if we care..

  • @NehemiahTheGoon do u know any black people??

  • what is that stuff on the grass?

  • @HubicPair97 Rain.lol

  • @KHI29SMOKE14 HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @4thletta yea the used to play on the old astro dome turf thats why its so shiny.lol

  • Even though this is the game from the REAL Friday Night Lights the thing is that the next year they won State by going undefeated and then they went back in 1990. For a long time Odessa was the dominant team in Texas along with Plano Senior High School in Plano, Texas.

  • @redmustang03 They didn't go in 1990, but they did win it in 1991. Plano is a joke and was so corrupt back then. If you watched any of their games, there was BLATANT cheating going on. That and they had twice the enrollment of other schools until they were forced to split it up.

  • @goten1214, cheating ha ha. So I guess Odessa making it far to all those playoff games were cheating. Get real, Plano from 1980's to around 2000 had a population boom due to companies like Frito Lay, Dr. Pepper, and other come to make their headquarters there. I should know I came in 1996. Second of all, their system is having 11-12 a Senior high and 9-10 High School. Before they added Plano West in 2001, they had a huge area of kids going to Plano. Also, Plano East had continue.

  • @goten1214, had just as many students. Your just jealous because they won every state title from 2A to 5A. They played like Nebraska. Run the ball with about 6 running plays mostly option, pass a few times, and play defense. You also forget that population boom from 1980 was 78,000 to in 2000 222,000. Also, the city in the census is the highest median income for over 250,000 and the school system is always rated high in Texas and in the nation.

  • @redmustang03 I'm not jealous of Plano. Like I said; they are a joke now. I'm not jealous of a school. Other schools have done better, won many more state titles, and didn't need to cheat with officials (or double enrollment of others) to win. Sorry to burst your imaginary bubble. Hope those state championships (your last one was in like 87? LMFAO!) feel good now when you suck!

  • @goten1214, no you dumbass our last title has been in 1994. We've tied with Brownwood with the most in 5A. Double enrollment, ha you have no clue what the district lines cover. Also I think majority of people rather go to Plano than to Dallas Carter they may get jumped or to Odessa because outside of Odessa there's NOTHING in West Texas. Suck you must be have something in ears because Plano got to the semi-finals in state in 1998 lost to Jersey Village and 2007 against continue

  • @goten1214, also we lost in the semi's in 2007 to the eventual state champions Euless Trinity, which still is a very good football school. Also if you check your facts Plano beat Odessa during those times when they won state like in 1977 so look that up. Also Plano was the only school to win state from 2A to 5A. They also won in sports like boy's basketball 2006, soccer 2009, etc. There always has been other great teams we faced like Katy, Converse Judson, Euless, Southlake Carroll, etc.

  • @redmustang03 Southlake won state in EVERY classification, so check your facts. Again, in the 1980s, it's no surprise that they were beating teams (although Permian won it 3 times that decade with a national title) with half the students. Congrats on your awesome 7-4 year this year which included allowing 61 points to Flower Mound; so much for your great defense! LOL

  • that playing surface looks awful

  • @redsoxboy24 Yeah, it's astroturf which is soaked in rain. Ouch!

  • Damn!! The movie was so damn inaccurate!!! I guess the Dallas Carter game wasn't even the state championship....hell its not even in the astrodome!! WHAT GIVES??? Why did they change it so much? From what I read in these comments of people who actually went to Permian, its seem the movie is a far cry difference from the actual events!! I love FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS but I hate the inaccuracy....it really did spoil everything.

  • @lurchipoo Sadly, that's the case. There were about 9,000 people there, not 55,000 or whatever the movie claimed. For some reason, Hollywood felt they needed to try to fabricate some drama for the game when it already had enough. THey did it for the Midland Lee game as well which had a totally different feeling to it.

  • maybe not very accurate but the movie is awesome

  • ya the movie and book are both far off in the depiction of this game.. fail

  • @D1Champ08 What was so off in the book?

  • @D1Champ08 the movie is still amazing and the book was good

  • i*

  • o thot they lost this game, and played it in the astrodome. also isnt # 45 supposed to be boobie miles?

  • @WhiteRhinoWeed5

Boobie Miles actually wore #35, they changed it for the movie. The movie also changed the location and made it the State Championship game.

  • mayn...th movie is seriously efn main.

  • is this at Rice Stadium?

  • @JordanSanders1991 No. It's at Memorial Stadium in Austin (now DKR stadium). This was back when it had turf.

  • @goten1214

and back when it had less seats? the stadium now has seats all around

  • permian actually was awarded the 1988 state championship because carter used steroids

  • @tnelson243 No. Converse Judson was awarded the title because they played Carter in the finals. And Carter was disqualified for using a player who had failed a class, not steroids.

  • @goten1214 ah dallas carter the school of cheating thugs, lol had 2 basketball titles they won a couple years back taken away i believe due to half the damn team failed.

  • @kingpincmk123 NOT TRUE!!!!!! IT WAS A DALLAS TEAM BUT NOT CARTER FOR THE BASKETBALL TITLES

  • @tnelson243 You think a school in the ghetto could afford steriods in 88'? Kill yourself please..

  • mike winchell trowin mean blocks...just what the offense required of him...

@sedro32 boobie would have started over chris if boobie was playing....boobie was D1 talent so to say comer wouldve started is false...and as the book says, comer was a nice suprise to the coaching staff who had originall had doubts about him

  • @martyd1036

If Chris Comer played HS ball today, he would've received a DI offer. With more Recruiting Services these days, more programs would've taken a look at Comer.

  • Were they playing on freaking concrete? Why's the field look like that?

  • @iiLukeee It was astroturf, and very rainy.

  • @iiLukeee i guess it was raining

  • that movie is so much of a joke.. the main character in the book is Jerrod McDougal an offensive lineman.. they dont even mention him in the movie.. also, chris comer was amazing in 88. he started every game at FB along side don billingsly in the backfield. even if boobie wouldnt have been hurt before the season, it would have still been Chris comer at FB..thats the dumb thing.. i would hate to be the real chris comer.. he got screwed over in the movie

  • @sedro32 Also they said Chavez was a little tiny saftey, when in reality he was a big 6"2 225 pound TE/DE.

  • check out winchell's block at 0:12, it's fucking badass

  • @094mp looks like he speared that guys knees but its okay, hes the quarterback haha

  • OMG the field!

  • Isnt 45 boobie miles number ?

  • @tonywkd1 Nope. It was in the movie, but in real life, Comer was 45. Boobie was 35.

  • @tonywkd1 in the movie in real life he was 35

  • Is that turf?

  • @bulllboiii I do believe so. The stadium in Austin used to be turf if I remember correctly.

  • what was the final score in this game? Also, why did Dallas carter get stripped of the title?

  • @troy16 It was 14-9. Carter got stripped of the title for using a player who didn't pass all of his classes.

  • @goten1214 Thanks the movie seemed to be fairly inaccurate

  • @troy16 nope!

  • @joebrown nope?

  • are all odessa quarterback required to wear #'s 20-29, thats just fucking weird

  • @bs20sanders I don't know if they're REQUIRED to wear them. It's just kinda a tradition. Something to do with the Wing T and the numbering system of the backs. And even though Permian is no longer a Wing T specialist, it's become a tradition for the QB to be like 20-24 or something. I've only ever seen them as #20, but I know there are probably others who had different numbers.

  • NAw! The QB went on to Texas Tech and set all the swc records for yards passing and touchdowns, and completions. Only 3 players from this team went 2 jail!!!!!! Quit hatin white boyZZZZZZ Carter will always rise above!!! BIATCH

  • @dallasbmitch Derec Evans and Gary Edwards did... Who was the other one? And Carter had a hard time rising above US (Longview) in 2002, 2006, 2007, and 2008 hahaha

  • Coverse Judson won state that year! And went on to 6 state titles qo jroc

  • @JeffH jUDSON WAS GIVEN THE TITLE DUE TO CARTER HAVING AN INELIGIBLE PLAYER. BUT ON THE FIELD CARTER WAS BY FAR THE TOP TEAM IN THE STATE. jUDSON DID NOT WANT THE TITLE BECAUSE THEY DID NOT WIL IT ON THE FIELD.

  • @thegoodrevdr Carter couldn't even beat Duncanville. Definitely not the best team in the state, and considering they had to forfeit most all of their games, they did it all by cheating, which anyone could do.

  • @goten1214 -mark busta nobody was cheating up there!!! The caqt in question actually recieved a passing grade on his report card!! The white Algebra teacher lied and said that he wasn't supposed to receive the 74 that he got. He changed classes midway through the 6 weeks grading period. He had a 68 average in the first class after 3 weeks and then received an 80 in the new class for the final 3 weeks which averaged to a 74, per Dallas ISD grading policy.

  • @blnevels Then why did the UIL strip them of that title?

  • @goten1214 -Because when they went to court the very same teacher came with a gradebook filled with symbols and characters, but no grades. He lied and said that the symbols he input in the gradebook for Gary Edwards were failing marks when in fact they didn't mean anything. Also, you have to understand that NO ONE wanted Carter to win because it was an all-black school beating all these white suburban teams. The judge couldn't really decipher the gradebook markings and took the title anyway.

  • @blnevels Not how I read things, but okay. Either way, the title is gone and it was 23 years ago.

  • wasnt the QB for carter suppose to be a great player but he robbed a bank and got 15 yrs or somethin??

  • @alextmiller337 It wasn't just the QB. A lot of them were. Especially cornerback Deric Evans, and runningback/defensive back Gary Edwards. Those two were recruited HARD, and both signed scholarships. They then got busted for armed robbery of restaurants and all kindsa places, and got like 10 and 16 years. I think they both got out way early, though.

  • @goten1214 How about jesse who went to miami and went pro!

  • anyone know the attendance of this game?

  • @2HCC It was about 9,000

  • whos #10 on Carter?

  • even if it was all BS, it was still a hell of a movie

  • Wow thanks for clearing that up I hate how Hollywood takes somthing nice and unique and distorts it when it doesn't need to be the real story would have been more entertaining from what I hear and to add to that story I went to Willowridge high school(power house in the 80's) and that year we called them for a game and Coach Gaines declined we offered to travel there and even would settle for a scrimage this is fact Gary Gaines will tell you himself

  • Man fuck Carter!!! Permian and Permian forever

  • What number is Jesse Armstead?

  • odessa's record against David W. Carter is shitty, get cha weight up Playa.....

  • Shit, if you said, fuck Carter, fuck you........ We ran through odessa ass, period...

  • I played against Carter that year. They were some bad mofos.

  • Carter was aight! They were over rated!

  • FUCK CARTER !

  • @Lundahlium HATER HATER!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • it's not just about winning teams all the time is about there struggles getting that far.

  • does any one know what college chris comer went?

  • @billyluna88 - He went to Tyler Junior College after high school. I think he's living in Houston now.

  • @billyluna88 Chris Comer got a scholarship to UTEP. the miners of El Paso, Texas. C-USA.

  • hey so im just wondering... I know who the starting offense was for this team because of the of the videos on youtube that introduces the players before the game. Who was on the starting defense? I know Ivory was the middle linebacker

  • @scoreboard24 - I can give you a couple: Greg Sweatt and Chad Payne were the other two linebackers. Coddi Dean, Stan Wilkins, and Robert Brown were secondary, Lloyd Hill actually played safety sometimes as well. D-lineman were Billy Steen, Felipe Davila, Brian Johnson, Steve Womack, Chad WIlliams... it's been a LONG time... if my memory is off, let me know.

  • @Agslions Hey, did you ever get a chance to go back and look for any old Permian games that you might have?

  • @goten1214 - Yep. Most were ruined. Couldn't find a complete one amongst them.

  • this is some rare shit man! good stuff!

  • was this the game like in the movie where boobie miles was injured so they used chris comer??

  • @crowester10xx

yeah kind of... Comer was a lot better though... Boobie had an injury in a preseason game and then came back from the injury. He wasn't nearly as good as comer or billingsley when he came back and he got very little carries. So he just quit the team

  • Is there a longer video of this out there? Thanks :)

  • @ryanguy86 I have the first three quarters on DVD and could make a highlight tape. But it wouldn't have Carter's last TD.

  • but Texas teams of the decade southlake carrol and katy

  • and celina

  • @jrad410

I agree southlake carrol and Katy are good.. But also Lufkin is always good, but no matter how good any of them were in 2005 no team in texas could have beat Highland Park when Matthew Stafford was the QB even though they were 4A.

  • @bergandytimbo9 Yeah, that's why they won the national title and not SLC, right? Texas High and Stephenville almost beat them lol

  • @goten1214

    lol in high school football

yea your right they did almost lose to texas high and Stephenville, but both of those teams had all american qb's so yea it was going to be a good game

  • I checked i bit some history and Odessa won State Championship 2 times (or 3) the years after with (also here not sure) the same coach?.

    !Sorry for my english.

ps. They only 2 games i went to see in my life when i was in Us was SDSU college football (aztecs i guess)

..didnt seem a great team at the time ahha :D

  • Your English is very good. In real life, the book talks about Odessa Permian in 1988. Expectations were high, but they lost a good player at the start of the year. They lose a game but make the playoffs anyway. In the semifinals, they play Dallas Carter who are big favorites, and Permian loses. Dallas Carter wins the title the next week but must forfeit for using ineligible players. Odessa Permian won state the next year (1989). And at Permian expectations are high. It's ot like that everywhere.

  • @goten1214

Ahmmm !! Wow thanks !! didn't know that Dallas Carter had to forfait for using ineligible players !! so now the story has more sense to me :D !

    Bye !!

    Tony

  • So who got the Title that year?

  • Converse Judson

  • So shouldn't the movie Friday Night Lights been about them?

  • @Nazgul001 No.... It was based off of the book which the author Bissinger chose to write during the fall of 1987. He picked Permian because they were/are one of the most legendary teams in Texas high school football.

  • @Nazgul001 Friday Night Lights was not about a team, it was about a program. No Texas schools(prior to 1987) had the tradition of MOJO.- Permian Class of '90

  • @goten1214 so the movie is a total hoax and a joke? like i know they had some true things in there such as players and winning state the following year, but in the movie didn't they have permian getting to state? did that not happen? i mean obviously what you said...so the book its the same way?

  • @westbear78 Yes, the book is the same way as real life. It is totally nonfiction, so everything he says happened as far as football goes. Odessa did not make it to state. Dallas Carter beat them in the semifinals (this game) and played Converse Judson the next week and won (they later had to forfeit their title due to a player being ruled ineligible). The movie changes the events up to make it more dramatic for Hollywood (although I thought the actual games were more exciting).

  • @goten1214 ok thank you for clearing that up. I own the book, but haven't gotten very far in it as i usually get destracted. I also know that boobie didn't get hurt in game like the movie, he got hurt in a believe it was a scrimmage...just funny the way hollywood can transform a story!

  • Hi all,

I watched the movie recently and i would like to understand a few things :D. I'm Italian and the idea ofFootball is still confused in me, but i still want to ask u smt. Maybe can sound a stupid question (or maybe watching the movie in english wasnt a good idea) but this movie tells about

a big favourite team that lost the championship?. Or in Texas expectations for Football are always so high that no matter what u have to be N.1? (continues on next post)

  • just about the whole game is on youtube. Schurr at Diamond Ranch look it up. it was a shootout the first couple of drives. if u want any of the players names, height or weight just ask me.

  • my high school football team had a similar year. we went into the playoffs as a tough team but unlike the panthers we were big underdogs. we lost in the divisional round against a much bigger and more talented team. we had an 11 point lead goin into halftime and an 8 point lead with just a few miniutes left in the game. we lost 33-27. we're a team that plays with heart and little guys,(average height 5'9) with our startin rb only 5'5. we also have a winning tradition 7 straight league champions.

  • @pats337 i know what u mean the team at my school is the same way i have highlight video o my channel if ur interested

  • i know so many people who think wat happened in the movie is completely real

  • was the final score of this game 32 - 28 like the championship?

  • No. 14-9.

The championship's score was 33-17 and Carter beat Converse Judson.

  • Bighitter: i think the running back's name was grande or something. i watched the movie today

  • In real life, the running back was Don Billingsley and the fullback was Chris Comer (Miles was the fullback until getting hurt). And of course Winchell was the QB.

  • Well this America, playing sports is a privilege, not a right. You earn the right to play football in Texas, and if you can't do the bare minimum CAVEMAN requirements to be on the field, you should not play.

The statistics for guys who make a living playing professionally are astronomically not in any HS football player's favor. Like one out of several million. Teaching these guys that standard discipline in the real world doesn't matter only sets them up for failure.

  • Dallas Carter never cheated on the football field - they were the best team and deserved the state championship. They no it and so does everybody else.

The grade issues has nothing to do with football. I'm from Ireland and in High School grades don't stop anyone from playing football or any other sport.

What if someone is an exceptional player but very poor academically, this shouldn't stop them from playing.

  • I guess it's pretty handy that it's the UIL who made the rule in 1983, not you. Whether or not you or anyone else agree with them, that was the rule in place. He knew about it before he failed Algebra II, so he should have sat out. There are tons of reasons the UIL made the rule... Oh, and they were hardly the best; they couldn't even beat Duncanville that year. They did well in the playoffs with a favorable schedule. They wouldn't have even won this game without 2 horrible calls.

  • watched the movie and read the book their story is crazy

  • wait. How come Comer was number 45 in real life , but they gave boobie that number in the movie?

  • Ask the movie creators lol

  • In the movie the qbs name was whitaker and i think the runningbacks name was grant? not sure bout the rb

  • yeah i really like this video cuz this is what really happened...i think ppl should read the book like i did also watch the movie though...cuz its good!

  • Too bad dallas carter cheated with ineligible players Cheating bastards

  • Not knowingly. It was the replacement teacher/principal's fault. Not the player's or coach's.

  • i thought he was hurt this game

  • No. He had quit the team.

  • i thought carter was HUGE buff ass hell kids.

    I got 3 questions.

Did Miles ever rejoin the team like he does in the movie?

Is he realy that cocky like in the movie?

and does Carter really play as dirty as they did in the movie. (kicking helmets to the face)

  • 1)Boobie tried to return but after the injury he was never the same player , he was timid and he had lost a lot of his explosiveness and cutting ability. This led to diminished playing time and frustration so he ended up quitting the team again.
