Instead of having her play in that local league, her parents should get her on an AAU club team. She can tryout for a 16U girls/boys team or whatever level she wants to play for... I'm 5'11" , 13 years old, and I play in a higher AAU age bracket all the time. Nobody ever has a problem with me being the leading scorer either. The only bad thing is, now that I play on the high school level, I don't really like playing with kids my age anymore.
I'm curious 2 c how well she plays against people within her size range Because if you're like 5 inches + taller than your opponents then....geez who could stop you. My club degraded me from the first team, who played on the highest level in the kids league, because the second team needed a player who could deliver them the championship. But there is a lot less scouting going on at the second team then the first team. Took me twice as long to get noticed because I played 2nd class...
It's really frustrating to play on two levels and completly own on two levels, just to get degraded to 2nd team because they sucked so bad.

She must play in a small weak bball league tho. My team would travel around playing in the AAU league and freakishly tall kids were expected. I still remember a kid on a team who looked like a man playing in the 11-13 age league. He had to be over 6"5 and was very athletic, id imagine Labron James looked similar to this kid. I remember at that age hating how short i was and around 15-16 i finally started to grow into the 6 foot range! Then i really became a good baller, my D was much better.
One of those kids lucky to be a foot or two taller then everyone early. I actually remember playing against a team with 2 very tall sisters(in a boys league +6") and boy was it hard getting rebounds.
I was strickly a PG and shooter until my long over due growth spurt. Afterwards i could actually get rebounds over certain centers if i had good position. A growth spurts can really impact how well u play bball at a young age. High school and on is when the playing level starts to level out fairly.

If we do allow women to play in men's leagues, then we should also let men participate in women's leagues. What this really means is that we would have to drop the sex/gender labels and have athletic leagues based on talent.

Good Luck to the young lady! Hope all her dreams come true! She's 12 I don't see a problem with her playing in boy leagues, but as she gets to high school and the games get more physical then she should play against the females. That would be more fair for all involved.

Why would men want to play in a woman's league, boys are better, stronger, and faster... letting a GOOD girl play with boys is not only pushing her to become a better player but pushing the boys too. Having a girl that is better at basketball makes the boys mad, if she has a penis they would want her on the team but because she doesn't they say she cant play. EVEN THOUGH she is better than every one out there, they are still young and it is great for their development at such a young age.

She must play in a small weak bball league tho. My team would travel around playing in the AAU league and freakishly tall kids were expected. I still remember a kid on a team who looked like a man playing in the 11-13 age league. He had to be over 6"5 and was very athletic, id imagine Labron James looked similar to this kid. I remember at that age hating how short i was and around 15-16 i finally started to grow into the 6 foot range! Then i really became a good baller, my D was much better.

One of those kids lucky to be a foot or two taller then everyone early. I actually remember playing against a team with 2 very tall sisters(in a boys league +6") and boy was it hard getting rebounds.
I was strickly a PG and shooter until my long over due growth spurt. Afterwards i could actually get rebounds over certain centers if i had good position. A growth spurts can really impact how well u play bball at a young age. High school and on is when the playing level starts to level out fairly.

If we do allow women to play in men's leagues, then we should also let men participate in women's leagues. What this really means is that we would have to drop the sex/gender labels and have athletic leagues based on talent.
However, if this were to spread to professional sports, I would worry that men would take over sports in general, with only a few very talented women being able to compete with men. Even lower talented leagues would be mostly made up of average male athletes.

I agree. If we do not divide a sport such as basketball by sex/gender, then the main league would be all male with maybe 1 or 2 exceptions and even lower leagues would be mostly men. I feel that sports are divided so that women are allowed the chance to participate and compete. If we go just based on talent at the sport, men will nearly always be the ones playing sports.

You're the one who isn't thinking. I'm arguing against letting men or women compete against the opposite sex in sports. My argument is that if people did let really good women compete against NBA-level men then they should also let less talented men compete against WNBA-level women. But that would just result in two leagues dominated by men. Therefore, it is necessary to keep leagues divided by sex so that a number of women (similar to the # of men in the NBA) can be pros.

fyi boys maturee into men when their testostorone kicks in usually during 15-24 years of age, girls on the other hand mature faster and peak at the age of 14, so with her height she will have an unfair advantage till the boys outgrow her, and could leap over her head, which girls arent athletic or strong enough to do, that is why candace parker the best female player on the planet could barely dunk, she would get killed and demoralized if she's allowed to play with the boys in high school.

Mix gender is BIG issue. It causes immense amount of stress tot he female body especially she wants to compete with the males on the same league.
Her advantage is her remarkable hight for her age...put her in a league with similar sizes and she wont fair so well.
