I just finished reading Pegasus Bridge by Stephen Ambrose. What an incredible story and we owe a great deal to the men like Wally Parr. We should never forget the sacrifices Wally and all the veterans of WWII made to insure freedom for our and future generations.
Wally Parr, the man talking is my Father. To honour him I wrote his War Story: 'What D'ya do in the War Dad' you can find it on my website pegasus-parr.co.uk
@thepissflap I have written my father Wally Parr's life story. 'What D'ya do in the war Dad?' you can obtain a signed copy from my website pegasus-parr.co.uk
Im going for my Basic at Catterick on 5th Oct, these are the guys who give me inspiration. True Heroes every one of them. Dont think there are words made to describe how increadible these folks are. cheers for the vid mate.
I'm going to Basic this summer here in the States. These are the guys who inspired my friend Rich, currently in Helmand with his TA infantry unit, and inspired people like myself over an ocean away....
Despite the innappropriate music, his commentary is powerful in how it describes just how terrible war is, but Wally Parr is a man who did what he had to do in those horrible circumstances.
I'd agree that the History Channel didn't need to add the over dramatic music, woulda been better without to just listen to the really, rather chilling words that Wally Parr had to say about war and the men in it.
Still though, I feel grateful to be able to hear those chilling words in tribute to brave men who made the "supreme sacrifice" and didn't come back from the war alive...
After I first saw this interview on the history channel it had a profound effect on me. I made sure to memorize the part where he begins with "I'm not here to make exscuses for war..."
His interviews on this particular series were and still are probably the strongest most passionate and spontaneous responses I've heard from any veterans. It's just too bad the world wasn't smart enough to let only the words of all those individuals, living or dead, inspire us. Rather than them having to fight.

Was the over-dramatic music really needed?
I'm pretty sure the words should have stood alone. Heroic overtures when a man is talking about trying to hide in the ground?
Stupid.
