Please please~ it'd be nice not to compare apples & oranges, when it comes to Patsy & Linda. Their tone, their vibro & their attitude was totally different. I tend to agree w/ faud about Linda not being in the RRHOF; I'm from Oklahoma and with the likes of Leon Russell only receiving an Honorable Mention of sorts in that high society org of hoeydy doydies, who cares. She doesn't care and her fans & supporters don't care. She's the unadulterated Queen of Rock, always has been & always will be.
They don't sing songs like this today because they can't. This song is timeless, but it takes an artist -- not a singer -- to own it. Patsy and Linda own it.
Like faud03, I'd like to know why Linda hasn't been inducted into the R&R Hall of Fame. 'I Fall to Pieces' is undoubtedly Patsy Cline's song and Leanne Rimes did a great cover. However, although I might be biased, I like Lind'as rendition most of all.
i will never get tired of listening to linda ronstadt, there should be a petition to induct her into the rock n roll hall of fame..this is long overdue!
Linda Ronstadt is BAR NONE the finest interpreter of songs EVER in the history of recording artists using that unmistakably awesome voice of hers and applying it to ANY GENRE of music....she has a knack for taking someone else's song, adding her own flavor and spicing it up to produce a hit record, be it rock, country, easy listening, mariachi, contemporary classics, or pop - SHE'S THE BOMB! Notice the striking resemblance of her (early photos) with another rising pop sensation - Selena Gomez.
Linda Ronstadt is awesome. But saying that Linda doesn't sound as good as Patsy Cline is like saying that Ray Charles doesn't sound as good as Paul McCartney on Eleanor Rigby. I think each is great, it depends on which style you like. I love Ray's piano but I love Paul's version with string instuments.
I've worn out my old tape casette of Linda's songs just listening to this one and Different Drum. Every time I listen to these songs, they put a lump in my throat. Linda's singing has always had that effect on me. She's so sweet and gifted.
She sounds more like Patsy than Patsy did? What does that even mean? Are you on crack lol. I personally hate when people cover Patsy's songs, because it's not really fair to them. The comparision makes them sound bad.
The Eagles were the backing band Glen Frey, Don Henley , Randy Meisner and Bernie Leadon. It is a very worthy version. But Patsy Cline reaaly made this her own.
I think Linda does a terrific job on this song. I like that she does her own version and doesn't try to do a copy of Patsy Cline's rendition, as so many others have done. One person here said the band was awful, but I think they're great. They give it an original bluegrass kind of sound. Also, keep in mind, that this is a live recording. Sounds dang' good for live!

does anybody think that taylor swift or brittney or lady gaga or (insert pop singer's name here) could pull off this song? Stevie Nicks or Grace Slick or Anne Wilson al powerful ballad singers didn't even attempt it. aaron neville and trisha yearwood did an ok cover but again, Linda had a far more successful duet with A Neville which launched him into the mainstream. why is she not in the RR HOF??? what a joke!!!!
@faud03 Naw, taylor, brittney nor lady gaga couldn't touch Linda on this song, but Leanne Rimes puts her in the dust--best version I've ever heard of it with the possible exception of Patsey Cline, herself. I love Linda's singing on this and many, many other great old tunes, but Leanne absolutely exudes heartache and longing in her version.
I have to agree with others here. Patsy owns this song. Nothing against Linda, 'cause we like her, too. It's just that this is a very serious, very special song to some of us.
I saw her in Chicago,Ill. 1974. No warm up group and she was on for only 45 minutes.(We all have our days) Not a good performance. THIS song proves that she has all the qualities of a singer that will be heard for many years more even she has been singing publicly since 1967 or so.Thanks for this great song.
This is one messed up band and arrangement. I was going to be smart and say it falls to pieces but actually started out in pieces and they never could put it together. Poor Linda!
We'll never know exactly what Patsy could've accomplished (A shame and such a tragedy and such a loss to the music world). But you have to admit....Linda is now 64 years old and been in the music business since 1967 and she STILL has a voice as pure today as it was 43 years ago! You can't say that about too many people can you?
I love Patsy's a bit more but I'm a die hard Patsy fan - Linda is my second favorite - but only by a small amount ....you can't get any better then these two!!
I 've been a diehard fan of Linda's since 1975, but I gotta tell ya-nobody has ever sung this song like Patsy Cline did; and no one ever will. That may seem a little over the top, but when I listen to that version I can hardly believe that such a singer ever existed....a regular human being who lived and breathed like all the rest of us sang that good. R.I.P Patsy,..and to LInda, many thanks for covering Patsy's version of this awesome Cochran & Howard song as well as you did.
@Nightsurf59 I gotta agree. Same with Blue Bayou. She has a nice voice, but once patsy did this song, its been sung. I cant listen to anyone else sing a Patsy Cline song- so its not just her. Funny, though, I dont mind it as much when a guy sings a patsy cline song.
@Nightsurf59 That's the first comment I have seen on the entire internet that I am in complete agreement with. Linda Ronstadt is fantastic--but Patsy Cline owns "I Fall to Pieces".
Not only better than Patsy's but Linda had the Eagles backing her here (before they left her to start their own band). It don't get any better than this. One of my favorite albums of all time.
