Issued late in 1969, this became my favorite record of the year as the turbulent sixties came to a close. Phenomenal song lyrically and melodically by A.L. "Doodle" Owens and Dallas Frazier. I also like Elvis's album version, but Percy's Atlantic 45 "A" side is by far the more powerful of the two, both in its production and its sensational, soulful vocal. (I like Nick Lowe's 1994 version too.)
I did not know Percy did a version of this good song...but I myself like Elvis version better. Good post thanks!!

Love this song because it is so true... but Elvis has the voice that no one..even Percy can match.
