  • Sorry, I think this only looks like an illusion through the lens of a camera.

  • It's a very bad idea. If the drawing was on the sidewalk where cars do not go, so it's okay. Once the drawing on the road is dangerous. The driver of the first times slow or even stop because they think that there is a child, but gradually you get used to drawing and will ignore it, especially if it is in other places. When, instead of drawing the real child, the tragedy happens.

  • Wonder how that looks when you drive up the hill and see it upside down x)

  • This might backfire, badly!

  • Good Idea!

  • People will think those kids are real, try to avoid them and hit the real ones on the sidewalks :D

  • Thumbs of for the cool design

  • Nice. Just as long they don't get so common, that a real kid is run over because the driver thought he was passing another gimmick

  • This was a creative idea!

  • Good idea. Until some kids actually runs into the middle of the street and gets hit by a car because the driver thought it was just another optical illusion...

  • This freaked me out when I saw it on TV, so I went on my computer and Youtube'd it.

  • next time the driver thinks that its just a painting on the way when its acually is a real kid (y)

  • Grandmas will be holding up the road honking

  • This is scary and not a good idea

  • That's cool..It was on the CNN Student News today..lol

  • 1) WAY cool effect....

    2) Next time thru this school zone... you known it is just an effect. Punk ass kids aren't going to slow down next time.

  • cool

  • I think a 3-D zombie is a better idea. People should get used to running over zombies.

  • you propably have to drive faster there to get the full effect. (++)

  • Good intentions but a terrible idea.

    1. As was already said once you get used to such an illusion your chances of running a real kid over are much, much higher.

    2. If you suddenly spot the illusion you will most likely slam on breaks and turn sharply and may very well end up on sidewalk causing serious trouble.

More kids will die in accidents due to such illusions than would without them.

  • Put a cop there and people will slow down. However, it does look kind of cool since she appears to be traveling at the speed of light around 0:07.

  • @light20735

A good idea, but there's a reason they didn't. The kind of speed bump that damages a car at high speeds can cause damage over time as well. And the other kinds are hardly noticeable if you get fast enough.

  • not safe someone could lock up the brakes and end up in the grass..or turn fast and crash..my view. what about a sign on the side with kids and a flashing solar powered light or manikin near the crosswalk. that wont freak people out but make them think.

  • it is anamorph not 3D

  • I would put 25cm speed bumps spaced every meter . . See how you whiners like that!!

  • If someones gets into an accident because of this they should not be driving.

  • I like it.

  • We will just have to wait and see if this innovation works. There are good arguments for and against this interesting method of slowing down traffic in communities.

  • i'm important i need to get there NOW i dont care if i'm driving past a school in a residential neighborhood

  • @MechaBlazeEagle

We spent $15,000 to paint this PAINTING of a kid. The test has been broadcast all over attracting MORE cars to that school just to see it. What did it deter?

They keep calling it a HOLOGRAM. That is not true. It is an ILLUSION. It is nothing more than a distorted, and long painting. A hologram is a laser produced image.

What to put instead to slow people down? How about actual SPEED BUMPS. Never seen anyone drive 80km up a speed bump :)

  • if you read an article about this the picture will be removed in a week probably to prevent the "crying wolf" thing. It coincides with the beginning of the school year, they're just seeing if it works.

  • They should switch the illusion with a painted statue every so often just to switch things up a bit.

  • Yeah..no...this is not a good idea...at all. This is just going to startle someone and cause them to swerve and hit a parked car or tree. Even with someone going well under the speed limit there is still that potential.

  • Anything that makes morons slow down where they should is okay with me.

  • This trailer's sick! When does the movie come out?

  • the matrix has you

  • How about first detecting the speeding drivers then projecting the image on the road?

  • That looks pretty cool.

  • I think this is beatiful and artistic lol, too bad once rain comes and cars go by, it will all go disappear. lol.

  • Its safer than a speed bump!

  • Should install a speed bump instead. This illusion can desensitize the reflexes the next time the kid is real.

  • I would love to see a vid of the drivers

  • It's not going to be there long enough for people to get used to it. Just long enough to freak people out.

  • not me

  • That's a great IDEA ! ! !Congratulations to the creator.

  • that is all kinds of cool

  • I expect this illusion to end up causing more accidents. Imagine someone was tailgating that guy and he stopped in an emergency because of this.

  • I've always preferred those tire shredding spikes that are activated by speed.

  • also if you see very closley to this you can pause at 15 and look at the right theirs a black sing that says something like you can see something when you less expect it or something

  • where is this located i want to go see it

  • @imjus1guy read the description it also on cnn

  • @imjus1guy British Columbia, Canada

  • @imjus1guy canada

  • @imjus1guy It is BC, Canada

  • @imjus1guy Canada

  • @imjus1guy says the location right in the description of the video. better hurry

  • Realy Stupid and Ignorant On Your Part of ""Safety""

  • please put me back into the matrix.

  • put a speed bump there. Unless someone wants there car to fall apart they'll slow down.

  • It's dangerous to get used to the panting!!!

  • other effects with graffiti are possible too; a man with an axe etc...

  • people will get used to it and will run over playing girls thinking it's a 3D-illusion.

  • Excellent illusion that should help deter MOST motorists from speeding.

All the comments calling this “stupid” are unimaginative & shows why humanities intelligence is seemingly regressing.

Those who disagree with this attempt at saving lives should at least have the decency to POLITELY disagree. If anyone has a “better” idea, Please share it or kindly shut thy mouth.

  • I would not have too many of them or else it would become a case of "crying wolf". Move them around and remove them before drivers become too used to them.

  • how about "virtual" speed bumps-that way even if it is real no one gets hurt except the speeding idiot's car.

  • It is better on 2d, when you look it with both of your eyes lot of effect is lost.

  • Not even 3-D :')

  • Great Idea TOPPIE

  • Great Idea

  • This is beautiful. It's non - intrusive and a lovely reminder to slow down.

  • lol

  • The real problem is if this desensitizes drivers to the real thing.

  • But Preventable says a detailed risk assessment was undertaken to address such concerns.

Before drivers approach the image, they pass a "School Zone" sign, crosswalk, an extended curb and a sign by Preventable that reads, "You’re probably not expecting kids to run out on the road.

  • Before drivers approach the image, they pass a "School Zone" sign, crosswalk, an extended curb and a sign by Preventable that reads, "You’re probably not expecting kids to run out on the road."

people can't think for themselves at least when raised not to so they need a bit of help, if you're so out of control that swerving to avoid this dangerously aint your main problem

  • Not a bad idea but ppl will get comfy with that and then accidents will happen...guess who will be blamed?

  • cool!!!

  • one of these days someones not gonna be paying attention and all of a sudden they will this and...BAM!!...dead trying to aviod it...

  • Do I need to be wearing the glasses to see this when driving?

  • It stops looking real at :06.

  • let's just hope that a driver wont see a real child and hit the kid at high speed . thinking it's a 3D picture.

  • Illusions like these are only compelling when viewed in two dimensions on a video screen. If you saw this in real life, it would like like a blob of color from far away, then it would like like a flat picture of a kid on the ground as you approach it, and then it would like like a flat elongated picture as you drive over it. It would never look like an actual 3d person standing in the road.

  • Sh|t, I think I'd rather see a UFO. If something like this showed up on a street one day, I'd be afraid someone spiked my coffee with LSD. Really, really creepy.

  • good idea but not that real looking and kinda creepy

  • I can't believe so many people think real kids are at risk to get run over because of this

i am pretty sure if you dont have the depth perception to tell between an image and a real object on the road you are not allowed to be drivin

  • It'll work once but the next time the driver sees a young girl playing with a ball in the street he/she will just run over her thinking she's just another "speed bump"...

  • what is the point of speeding anyways? whoever is driving on the road should ALWAYS PAY ATTENTION to the road! it shouldn't matter if its there its to slow people down. and i guess if a real kid gets hit by some idiot not wanting to slow down the fine should be doubled.

  • Haha. I really like the juxtaposition of the two top-ranked comments right now.

  • @BlackstarSirius Not the right meaning of "Juxtaposed." It means to compare, or in comparison.

  • WHOA

  • @ped1703: the picture of a girl was only for one week. Besides, if you're driving slowly in front of a school, you won't swerve or hit the side walk. The only dumb thing is people like you who know everything better, but never come up with a good idea themselves.

  • Stupid idea, woaw.

  • cry wolf.. not a good idea

  • maybe the girl is real and we are all an illusion.

  • This is a terrible idea it's creating a sort of "the boy who cried wolf" effect.

What are people going to do when there's a real girl in the middle of the road?

  • it is an interesting idea

  • Just wait til a little girl happends to accidentally wear that exact same outfit and chases a ball into the street and some dude plows her thinking it was just a virtual speedbump.

  • thats going to cause more accidents then prevent them

  • that's actually a real girl... her and her ball just got flatten by a truck earlier.

  • if you hit her you get a free ball!

  • great.. now my kids can't wear blue jackets/pants, white sneakers and ponytails

  • Is this a good idea, getting drivers used to not stop at the sight of a child on the road?

  • That kid is huge. And flat. The weird part is the comments from people worried that drivers will be distracted by what's in front of them, rather than paying attention to what's in front of them. One and the same, no? If your brain can't calculate more than two pieces of information at a time, you probably shouldn't be driving. Could be a problem if you're tripping balls - again, don't drive when you're on them there acids. I'd have to pull over because I'd be laughing so hard.

  • If a kid runs out onto the road and gets hit, it's their own fucking fault for being dumb. Alternatively, it's their parents' fault for not teaching them not to risk getting pounded by roaring tons of metal.

  • This is going to kill lot of drivers. If someone is driving let's say on 40MPH/70KPH and see this kid will push the Brake and he will lose the control and bringing him an horrible death. What are you thinking guys. Come on I think you can do better.

  • I wonder how this looks at night?

  • i think the driver will have reelise that the child isn't moving

  • thats so CLEVER!

  • This is a dumb idea, and it worries me.

  • wow. when a real girl run out on the street , their gunna think its a painting and run her ass over >:O

  • that's a nice idea..

  • i think instead of making it a kid they should make it a car with the brake lights on...so it looks like its just a car up ahead that has stopped for some reason

  • Honestly in my opinion. This is quite stupid.

As Ped1703 said. people can and will do that.

  • they should use this tactic on highways where you have an officer holding a radar...then, as a result, maybe drivers will slow down

  • Anyone who falls for this is an idiot. If any NORMAL driver saw what looks like a child in the road from that distance, he/she would STOP, not swerve.

There's no speed bump in the street; drawn or otherwise.

  • I think people may get used to them and ignore them after awhile. This could be dangerous when it is a real child crossing and someone assumes that it is just the painted one.

  • omg!!!

  • Not very safe to be operating a camera while driving

  • How about a virtual pizza or hamburger? The average american would always slow down for that, and they won't swing their car everywhere because they know it's not a living being. Perfect.

  • Better call Banksy

  • terrible idea, would only work once, and only if the driver dont have such good eyes

  • i hate kids

  • is it just me who found that creepy?

  • @starsandrockets09 Lol i thought it was gonna be one of those scarymaze face pop up things :L

  • have advantage and disadvantage.

  • no one stops for a stupid painting

  • we can tell its a painting

  • @aa18706 oh? really? I'm pretty sure that its real.

  • @aa18706

    Yeah what gives man? xD

  • cool...i thought it was a cardboard at first !!!

  • wow well made

  • this video is fake because the little girl is not in the kitchen

  • Bad idea. Don't know why anyone would give the thumbs up to something like that.

  • its obviously a fucking painting on the ground... anyone who mistakes that as a real child should not be driving

  • This might work, but eventually they are not going to slow down thinkig it's just an illusion, and the real kids will be hurt..

  • so lets all look at the road instead of where we're going?!?

  • This is a fantastic idea

  • >.< wtf

  • And now people will be looking at the picture on the road instead of whats ahead of them... XD

  • Bad idea.

This would just condition drivers to think that kids playing on the street are "just speed bumps".

They should at least mix it up: not just have kids, but have dogs, an old lady etc.

  • you get at least 200 points for that

  • nothing really beats the classic speed bumps :P

  • just when you think you've scored ten points...

  • next time you think it's fake but than it's real!

  • I had no problem spotting that 12ft girl

  • hey morons . they are suppose to go 25 mph anyways around their. if they go faster then that, then they deserve to crash

  • Aye, terrible idea. People will get use to the painted children and keep up their speed.

  • won't this distract drivers?

  • So how long until this "safety" measure causes a deadly accident?

My bet is on less than a week.

  • That's a very big child.

  • What about the drivers, who are otherwise perfectly fine drivers, for whom the optical illusion doesn't work?

  • I hope this isn't happening in the UK, I totally agree with the top rated comments. Could I also add that if you see that it wouldn't make you slow down if you believe it's a child more break harshly which could be very dangerous for road users behind you because it could cause them to smash into the back of you seeing as they wont see the "child" they will have no idea why you stopped.

  • people should read the info and then you would understand what the hole thing is about.instead of just saying all of this stuff.

  • if people would just read the info u would understand what the hole thing is about in stead of just saying all this stuff without even know what u r talking about.

  • I think this will train drivers that all children crossing is just an illusion, move alone and drive over them instead.

  • LOL

  • The best part about this thing is you know that it is going to be defaced awesomely.

  • "dude slow down there's a kid on the road"

    "it's just an illusion"

    *thump*

  • Reminds me of what we used to do with stupid speeder drivers in our neighborhood. We would just toss a ball out and when they screeched to a halt, made them aware that it COULD have been a child and they wouldn't have been able to stop. Believe it or not, most were pretty thankful and it sure slowed speeders down on our street!

  • Really dumb idea. Read endings, or conditioned responses to it leading to hitting real children...some "advocacy" groups just do dangerous things in the name of safety.

  • Sadly I fear that a driver may mistake the illusion to be real, overreact, and actually cause an accident to occur. I think it'd make me violently swerve as well if I didn't know about it, and that puts the lives of myself and others in real danger. It'd be a little more understandable if it wasn't exactly where it is, which is where the driver is 'supposed' to be. Perhaps to the side of the road, where it would cause a slowdown but avoid swerves and actual dangerous driving being provoked.

  • What is that little girl doing out on the street anyway, doesn't she know any better

  • @Straatjoggie em.. its a painting!! if u havent got taht yet!! its to warn drivers that there are kids around, dumb idea, cus drivers are already aware, all as they need is a sign loike, but it is a painting!!!

  • and how does this help anything

  • @15SecondsToFreedom - reminds us that you may come across a gigantic mutated girl

  • @15SecondsToFreedom it distracts you, so a kid can run out after the image and get hit

  • @15SecondsToFreedom Makes people slow abit

  • "Critics have suggested the picture may actually cause an accident if a driver spots it and thinks it's real, and then slams on the brakes. This is unlikely, however, because its point of greatest realism is around 100ft away from the driver, after which it becomes apparent it's a drawing."

    Yahoo news

  • That's stupid. A driver's gonna come to a sudden stop and the guy behind him is gonna crash into him.

  • @mintsponge

And that my friend is why u want to be 2 car lengths away from another car

i mean i don't know how close you drive but now u know

  • @mintsponge

You supposed to be 2 car lengths away from another driver...

  • Comment removed

  • People get used to run over her and eventually will confuse her with a real girl.....

  • very good.

  • going over a picture of a child will give them the idea its ok to run over little girls.... bad idea

  • good idea. it looks fake but one will think again when speeding.

Another good idea from the nice canadians.

But i heard that getting a driving permit is very easy so maybe they can make this more difficult;)

  • ow it's just another optical illusion but in fact it's a real girl? or what if someone thinks it is a real girl and get out of the way and bumps into another car? what then huh? serieusly this is the most dumb ass idea i've ever seen!

  • LOL

  • LOL THIS IS COOL

  • Pedal to the metal

  • Think the idea of drawing attention from a driver is a good thing. But I'm not sure thís is gonna work. What if people think its a marking instead of a real kid and run the kid over...
