@mmtna I'm not an expert, but here's what I think. Art is changing in a number of ways. The creation of it is becoming more accessible. Quality music can be made by anyone with a ripped copy of FL studio, or on an ipad using garageband. Social and political commentary is now found on ragecomics and demotivationals, no longer just political cartoons and opinion columns. PVRs have made traditional advertising difficult, so now art has become commercialised by product placement.

@mmtna Art's been digitized, with people distributing it across the internet instantly. The amount of artists with a measurable audience has skyrocketed to to the information age. This makes traditional artist uncomfortable, and I understand why so many people don't like the change. But I think the world's definition of art is changing, and in a few generations our definition of art will be considered retro. The general public just does not have the attention span for traditional art anymore.

@kleenx73 Without an audience for traditional art, it will stop being made. When nobody is buying it, and gov't programs stop suporting it, the money will be allocated elsewhere. Cutting edge art has always been considered the end of "real" art. Beethoven's later works, impressionism, jazz, rock, were all considered an abomination intially.
