Years ago he came to this tiny backwater little dirt racetrack located near Gastonia NC. I remember we were all sitting in the stands and he in the infield. (the owners wouldn't let us down there) Well Jerry laughed and had his crew go and cut the locks so the fans (myself included) could get down to right in front of the stand!

He was obviously ill in that picture, but I still think he looks like a badass. People don't always look the same, but worse are people who change what they are, or become less than they once were as human beings. Jerry was not one of these; he was awesome right to the end.

Besides, Jerry never put on airs. His attitude was always "This is what I am, this is what I look like, and anybody who didn't accept it, well, too bad".

He was never vain. He wanted to be loved for his music, not his looks. And that did he accomplish in a fantabulous manner.
