@Keats69:to me the song is about all the things he wishes he was, but is not: more dependable (the pedal brake), more trustworthy (the verb to trust and never let you down), the shining focus of someone's life (star a top the christmas tree), more needed and able to just explode in rage (neutron bomb). it's a sad & self-critcal song as it focuses entirely on the unattainable, leaving everything that exists in the present out - and the present is all we have.

Probably the same 28 people that grew up in the late 80's and 90's that aren't locked into the belief that Pearl Jam is the apex in contemporary music. Also, not every song put out by Grandma Pearl's Jam was a good song- they've had a quite a few busts. I like Pearl Jam- but grunge needs to quit wheezing and die.
