Obscure question: What is the song that plays in the episode, "Cat Nap" when "Jayde speaks Sevyn" is asking for funds for her video shoot? The song plays at the beginning of the segment when her father is listening to her plea for money.
The opening music is the best part of the show. I have much respect for Armisen and Brownstein in their other creative ventures but Portlandia has driven its one joke straight into the ground: "self-conscious middle-class white people invent problems in urban paradise." And yes, I live in Portland. Too bad the show only focuses on a tiny cultural clique of not very interesting people.
I grew up in the Northwest and My dad lives in Portland. I cannot think of a more perfect portrayal. Haters thinks it is unrealistic, but that's the nature of sketch comedy.... to exaggerate and already existing situation and make it funny. George W. doesn't really talk like a 6 yr old, but Will Ferrel always made me laugh!
ironic that the concept of "Keep Portland Weird" originated with "Keep Austin Weird"...isn't borrowing another cities slogan the opposite of local, creative, unique ;)
Too bad Washed Out is from Georgia,,, fuckin hipsters,,, the sad part about Portland is it's exactly like it's portrayed in the show. Why the fuck would you want to live there?
i heard this tune long before I saw Portlandia, it is rather eclectic to put in the opening of the show....actually it fits, in an odd way, the whole show deals with odd but common situations in life.
@Vernchiqui Actually, I like to listen to obscure music because I just got so bored and tired of the same old top 40 broadcast radio tunes. Let the 'tip of the iceburg' music retire to obscurity and bring the rest to the table. I've found quite a bit of cool stuff with that viewpoint.
Hello, motherfucker. Like I walked in on incest. Do it, motherfucker. Talking does not impress us, man. Us. It's all about us. Like a bunch of self-obsessed teen girls talking on the bus.
@nouvellevintage ...whereas I think you can't take a friendly jab like 'sourpuss' without getting super-defensive, which is pretty sad since you're coming on a message board with the sole purpose of being negative toward the show (which is fine, but dude, you're totally inviting a jab or two). It kinda reminds me of a character on Portlandia...oh hey! There ya go!
i having to be "that guy" but if you like Washed out, you should seriously check out Deadbeat Summer by Neon Indian, aswell as (the bands) Gold Panda, Toro Y Moi and No Age.
Dig the vibe, but have mixed thoughts about the show continuing: the concern is shining a light on the cool, living art and culture makes it yet more self aware, creating stagnation. (The featured foolishness can be found all over United States of Idocracy.)
@generlove You obviously never really LIVED in Portland. Austin isn't weird! It's exactly like the reat of the south! The coasts are where it's at! We need to get rid of the center of the country!
@generlove I'm pleased you have relocated elsewhere -- you're obviously too intelligent and delicate for these parts.
Oklahoma City, Cincinnati, or Houston may more your speed -- your spelling, grammar, temperament, and "facts" may be a better fit in those lovely cities.
The other day, me and my 3 friends took our scooters on the max, and then road them on the road through burnside to voodoo. We had just hiked in forest parked and had done a few bowls. After that ride through town, Because of that one night, I now see portland anew, and I fucking love it. for all that it is. something different. Something– unique.
if you click on my channel i made a video called "The Weird Side Of Youtube" and i used this song in the background bc its awesome XD

I enjoy this show. It's a shame though that they omitted the St. John's bridge in the opening. That is the most beautiful bridge in Portlandia.
