  • No that yellow cloth indicates that he is a rookie which gives the driver more room to race

  • No they have 5 point harnesses

  • When he started were those yellow things hanging out the back of the car his harnesses. Because i dont think thers any way for a harness to break the fast when u roll

  • Everyone is so quick to accuse him of having no seatbelts. But how would any of you know.

They could of easily ripped or the latch popped open..

  • The sad thing is this -- if he got killed in this wreck, he didn't merit getting killed in a sprint car accident.

  • hes damn lucky centrifugal force kicked in and the full weight of the car didnt land on him, he got alot of it but lucky it wasnt all of it

  • His body bent and weight of car on it DAMM

  • Thus is exactly why you check your belts

  • dude, where the fuck is your seatbelt?

  • @AuburnTigers975 if he had the belt on he mite b dead now. ( a freakn auburn fan, cant even get on youtube without running into one of u). ROLL TIDE

  • @t8035 ohh yeah thats right, considering a seat belt throws you out of the fucking car all the time. dumb fuckin bammer.

  • did he not have his belts on ? if he didnt your just asking to get hurt in any open wheel car

  • he is so lucky on that last roll-over that the car went right over and not landed on him, I bet he will double check his belts next time

  • what you think was his safety belt was his rookie flag attached to the rollcage

  • as soon as he got ejected a baby started crying

  • @noahkiller1

That's because the crowd had erupted in horror!

  • That man has a guardiean angel!!!

  • Why wasnt he wearing a seatbelt? Jheez

  • cam locks blow

  • brianbora is correct. From what I remember and was told later, the driver had a new (at that time) style "cam lock" latch system on the shoulder harness. When he rolled the car, his stomach rotated the locking device of the harness to the open position. I was there and think I have still photos of this.

  • If you look close it look's like his belts were off before he hit the wall. Look's like they are dangling out the back of the cage.

  • Wear your seatbelt.....and put a roof on that car

  • He probably had one of those quick release belts a driver in the 90's was killed around where I live I was at my home track and a 9 year old micro sprint drive flipped and fell out half way.

  • To me it looks like he over corrected and couldnt get the car back

  • oh fuck that

  • Holy fuck. How did his neck not snap?

  • Yup i use to see tht crash everytime id watch my dads old racing tapes and thats one reason why i always pull my belts tight before every green flag

  • Wow he got lucky.

  • Im buying new belts for my car.... Maybe with sum kind of rachet strap where they will b nice an tight

  • did he suffer any injuries during this crash? It's amazing that he didnt break his neck or anything.

  • wtf? how does that happen unless his belts weren't tight or even strapped right?

  • @davidallenroth the first time the car rolled his arm bounced off the release on his belts

  • @Polybun assholes like you give the sport a bad name

  • @schenkyoass i'm still alive and winning.

  • I wonder if he had a crotch belt to keep him from sliding down and letting the shoulder belts fall away.

  • he did not have his belts tight

  • Hey, let's go to CALAfornia? yeaa

  • howd he fall out /

  • if that car didnt go to the right he'd be dead thats crazy

  • ... not a video for making the case that race drivers are athletes.

  • That car has given birth...........TO A MAN!!!

But no seriously this guy has to be tough and very lucky to be alive after that

  • hahahahahahahahahahahaha....

  • I bet he was sore in the morning

  • muther fucker. Didn't he have belts on? Oh btw. In a sprint car, belts are not bolted in usually. They wrap and tie around the cage bars. If that dude wasn't wearin his belts and was drivin a sprint car??? That dude just ain't all there man. Sprint cars are the craziest cars in the world not to be wearin everything you can possibly wear to keep yer ass safe man.

  • Omg that's horrible!! poor guy!

  • They showed 07. I remember it clearly

  • i think he used all of his luck up ,for life. glad he walk away from that one!

  • That baby really doesn't help.

  • Those arn't his belts flapping thats a tear off on his visor. The bolts that hold the belts broke in the crash.

  • Why was he not wearing a safety harness? Can see the rookie tape, wonder if he ever raced again after that. Not the best introduction to dirt track racing for a rookie.

  • You can see his belts flapping in the wind leading up to it.

  • @spikerogan that is rookie tape. not belts

  • Two words---> SEAT BELT!!!

  • wear your damn belts moron.

  • what's up with him not having belts or something.

  • did the seatbelt break or did he just not put it on

  • natures way of saying "dont do that anymore"

  • 1200 pounds on the neck, wow.

  • It used to be fairly common for your sleeve to hook on the latch and unlatch the belts. It happened to me one time befor harnneses started having the valcro tape or other designs of the latch preventing it. There have been many advances in harnesses in the past 22 years. It appears possibly something had him destracted going into the corner. Does anybody know for sure what happened?

  • 1,000 ibs car comes crashing down maybe a foot infront of him..... if he didnt learn anything from that then he shouldn't be near a racecar.

  • I dont need a stinking seatbelt! Watch this!

  • @king0cans I raced asphalt and I can tell you that even the smallest impact on a concrete wall while racing is like a sucker punch. Look at the driver, his back or neck could've easily been crushed or snapped. My racing experience made me value wearing my seat belt whenever I'm in a car. They save your life.

  • man that will give you a headache.

  • @rexcars27 wasnt wearing one?

  • @rexcars27 tape on roll cage means rookie, im guessing he didnt do it correctly or wasnt wearing one

  • @racerboy12345 i dont think he was a rookie... you dont hop in a wingless sprint car and run like that... he ran a pretty good line thru 1-2. probably just shit harnesses from back in the day

  • @chongracing21 he may have had previous driving experience, but for the first few races many tracks make you run rookie tape

  • @racerboy12345 yeah i guess you're right. although, most tracks these days dont really care. you can make the choice yourself if you want to run as a rookie or not. usually a driver with a rookie flag cant start anywhere up front

  • wow. that dude is lucky as hell he didn't get crushed under that cage

  • He apparently wasn't wearing any sort of belt or harness.

  • was he even strapped in??? he came out pretty easy

  • Lucky

  • One tough sob!

  • He got lucky because the car caught some air at the last roll. Hope he wasn't seriously injured, as in death wise.

  • i will ask my parents if they know anything on this wreck. ill post if i find out anything

  • i was gunna say that track looked familiar. then it said it was Santa Maria Speedway. i got there everyweek. My dad told me a story about this.

  • oh shit. good thing safety belts have improved since then.

  • @MrBradenBoi yes they have but look up this guys name. Giorgio Bartocci

he got into a very unlucky crash in 2010. he did not die and is in stable condition in the hospital

  • Holy shit!!!!

  • This crash actually happened in 1989. The driver is Dave Crowell and it happened during qualifying for a CRA sprint car series event at Santa Maria Speedway.

  • thanks!

  • @mdp4499 that is correct mdp i was there that night. funny thing is me and my wife were watching a hobby stock race a few weeks earlier and a door skin got torn off a car and she said"but what if he falls out"! i cracked up. then this happened she just kind of glared at me.

  • @mdp4499 no shit

  • @mdp4499 And Is he ok now? Thanks¡¡

  • @993BlueZones Dave Crowell is fine ! for the people who know racing ! yes it was a rookie flag on the back of the car meaning rear starts. He had prototype cam lock five points which were abandoned shortly after. For the donkeys out there you cannot get on the track without a tech inspector grabbing your belts. i have read alot of foolish suggestions by people who claim to be racers.
