I didn't really seem to understand that line. I'm thinking that perhaps it's a reference to the fact that Inferno (as in The Divine Comedy's Inferno) was Aligheri's vision of hell...
I don't know. The story gets a bit odd at that point, as it seems as though Dante lost all memory of his encounter with the Reaper and we don't find this out until Lucifer shows him. I think the developers just got a bit lazy towards the end.
@MentalRoXXorGear no not ad all, if you know that dante was already dead then dante wouldn't make the trip through hell for beatrix, lucifer wanted him to know that he was alive sothat he could get into the place where he wanted to go
