Jusqu'à ce que j'ai entendu cette restitution, je n'avais jamais entendu de Sissel avant. Sa clarté et Registre supérieur lui mettre avec le meilleur des sopranos. Je dois rechercher davantage de ses chansons comme elle est une merveilleuse chanteuse. Merci Sissel.

Until I heard this rendition, I had never heard of Sissel before. Her clarity and upper register put her with the very best of sopranos. I must search out more of her songs as she is a wonderful singer. Thank you Sissel.

Nice job, not the best, but nice. Few popera singers can do the aria the justice that an opera singer does. I don't think this is her best song. I have heard her voice sound beautiful. I don't think this aria suits it though.

They're both excellent vocalists. Sissel has a sharper and somewhat colder voice, Mirusia's warmer and softer. This recording of Sissel is also not very high quality which also negates part of the beauty.

I don't like Mirusia's version. You can tell she doesn't speak the language so she's singing it too fast in order to cover it. So her song comes out like a big jumble. Another point is her and andre rieu's overdoing with all this mtv event attitude

In 2000, on a music performing tour, I visited his historic home @ Troldhaugen, outside Bergen. Have you heard the famous Grieg Piano Concerto or Peer Gynt Suite - which this lovely song is from??

Sissel is a contemporary Norwegian singer of international renown - one of my top favorites, also, as a professional musician. I have been to her concerts. She is a beautiful person.

you don't seem to be aware the Grieg's moved to Nesttun, Norway from Scotland around 1770 the spelling of Edward Greig was changed to suit the Norwegian

@airamhag He he, you should know as almost all Griegs music is related to Norway...i.e "Solveigs song" is composed to the play" Peer Gynt", a mythichal play of Norway's most famous play wrighter Henrik Ibsen......More of Griegs music to this play are the world famous" in the Hall of the Mountain King", "the Death of Aase" etc..

I'm starting my fifith year of singing lessons now and my teacher gave me this song. shame on me, I didn't really knew the song consciously but there is a band ( midnattsol ) who made their own version of the song, so there's a bonus for me ( YAY ).

Erm, I have to admit I may have hallucinated hearing Beverly Sills sing this. I cannot find a reference anywhere to Ms. Sills recording Solveig's Song, so it had to have been another soprano (although her voice was lovely and supple enough to have made it a legendary performance).

But Sissel's is still the loveliest I've heard. That much I do recall!

Having heard only a few recordings of Solveig's Song (including the fabulous Beverly Sills' recording), I must say this is probably the loveliest. The song suits Sissel's exquisitely clear voice, and her diction is beautifully precise, so that even a non Norwegian-speaker like I can follow the written lyrics. For which, BTW, thank you, Sisselfan!

This recording sounds simply wonderful.

Always when I listen to such an excellent song of Sissel (in fact everything is excellent) i think why did James Horner take Celine Dion for the end song of Titanic. Nothing against Celine but Sissel is just another cathegory, not to compare.

REPLY for dami1622, James Horner selected Sissel to sing the soundtrack that he composed for 'Titanic'. He DID Want her to Sing the Theme - she was his chosen voice! However, the producers felt that a 'more famous' singer

like Celine should sing it. It was out of Horner's hands, so to speak. I would have Loved to hear Sissel Kyrkjebo sing "My Heart Will Go On", her Vocalises & Descants in the movie are hauntingly beautiful. As a musician, she is one of

my Favorite singers. Tusen Takk.

Thank you for your explanations. Such decisions are typical in the US entertainment industry. If these producers had made the job for me it would be their last job - for me. Fortunately Sissel does not care. And James Horner made a big mistake to listen to the producers. Whatever, the movie goes to the history. In the schools book which will speak about the musiciens about the past century Sissels name will be written withe golden letters. Not many word will be written about Celine.

REPLY for dami1622, I understand your frustration. I'm a professional musician in U.S. However, James Horner, the composer of the Soundtrack which is all Sissel, as he described - "The Voice", had no power over the producers who

owned the movie. He Really did his best for her to no avail regarding the 'Theme'. A brief time later, U.S. producers of 'Titanic' would have been more enlightened that Sissel is an exquisite internationally renowned songstress.

composer, Grieg. When I traveled to Norway on music tour,visited her hometown, Bergen, & Grieg's hime-Trollhaugen, just outside. There I got a music box of "Solveig's Song" . This is the most beautiful version I have ever heard - of course it is Sissel Kyrkjebo! Traveled all over Norway & cities, performed in the Roros Domen,

where she recorded 'Northern Lights'.

Reply for tmmvideo, Sissel did study, but also is blessed with a vocal gift.. She has sung operatic compositions - a lyric soprano. Yes, she is versatile in many styles & her singing is crystalline!

Is this opera? Could one of you singing gurus help me out? I have seen comments about Sissel that she could not sing opera. She has even said herself that she is not an opera singer. She is so versatile and can sing almost anything, and she does this so beautifully that it seems to me she could include opera in her repertoire. Also, did she ever have any formal training? All I have ever heard about was the training she got singing in the choir from the ages of about 9 thru 16. — Tom
