Try some bass wood. My son got a 20 lb box on amazon for $25. He's been able to work with it relatively easily and he's only 10. With your art skills I bet you would turn a piece of bass wood into a master piece.
@creativecompanion Thank you for the tip. I am going to have to find some basswood. I am also thinking about trying my hand at that staff again. It has had some time to sit in the garage and give up some of it's moisture. It might be easier to carve now that it has dried out a bit.
