  • One of the best songwriters ever. He wrote so great songs. But there are just 45 thousand people who watched this video. so sad.

  • Thank you for posting this, lapislazuli42.

  • love

  • LOVE

  • so true. he always seemed to be an unhappy man...

  • Hey there "lapislazuli42",

Thanks to YouTube, I just discovered TVZ less than 2 months ago (and his late friend Blaze Foley, as well). I've since purchased 4 TVZ CD's and 2 of Blaze's. I've watched virtually everything of Townes' posted here. I must thank you for posting the "Private Concert" videos. I feel Townes' singing those 13 songs reflects his most heartfelt performances, his emotional peak. While the bell clarity of his youthful voice had vanished, so to, had the rushed delivery.

  • And on the 7th day God rested my ass! He was busy planning on making the greatest songwriter ever!

  • if you guys havent seen heartworn highways you should check it out. It shows townes' backyard and he shows the camera some "rabbit holes" and he actually falls in one and drags himself all the way in it, knocking his cowboy hat off. he seems very happy(drunk) in that vid, excellent footage of guy clark and steve young as well. Townes is the man

  • C.S Lewis said that we read to know that we are not alone--listening to Townes serves that same function--what a talent.

  • @abccaldwell1

I have to agree with you. I've posted on other TVZ videos that my own, and other's, fascination with Townes lies in the fact that he eloquently voices our darkest thoughts, letting us know that we are not alone in our dark slide into oblivion.

  • truly amazing songwriting at its peak it is so complex yet so simple townes was the real mccoy . that line, " but your softest whisper's louder than the highways call to me" just gets me

  • there is truly something in the water in Texas that has given us all these great legends

  • @deborahkauffman09 can't agree more when i moved to texas i got into townes and steve earle 2 of the best in my opinon

  • @slovakmath

If you live in Austin, you can rent it from Vulcan Video

  • This is one song that sounds better with his older voice; it's deeper tone matches the tenderness of the lyrics perfectly. It really helps that the songs itself is perfect.

  • No,never true happiness, but I beleive he took comfort from his admirers. he never would have endured as long as he did, without the simple sighs & tears..displayed by both Beautiful ladies & grown men

  • this is the song that asked me to leave Colorado, in search of love...happy to report, i found it. Thanks Townes

  • Even though I have heard this song so many times before =>.still tears in my eyes

  • "Thanks ya'll'' Thank you.

  • Thanks Towne,Your gift is sadly missed, you are an american treasure, god really does bless Texas

  • My friend Hank Sinatra video-taped this session. Someone must have signed out the video footage from UT and ripped it.

  • @jonterhaar where can you order the dvd?

  • @slovakmath

You can 'borrow' it from the UT library.

  • i mean i feel what yall are saying. but yeah i think he's happy to be playing, townes' personality is pretty monotone/dry anyways.

  • I like what you hear him say at the end. "I am glad that I remembered that one."

  • @johnow7 I'm glad too.

  • I agree, he seems to be there "just because". He doesn't seem into this performance at all. though it would probably put anyone off to be setting in a tiny hotel room being videotaped trying to play.

  • Cool to see-But Townes does not look to happy to be performing though

  • @tatran78 Townes never looked happy, he wasn't happy, he wasn't into happy
