i dont think it reaally matters. its either greek or turkish..a history mix up of something. BUT, everybody loves it. even in russian families..we adore it(:
@biniciesma well baklava is not only Turkish.. It's also Persian, Greek, Serbian, Bosnian, Bulgarian, pretty much the whole Balkans.. I think ancient Mesopotamians made it first then Greeks adopted it and then Turks just came along from the east and adopted everything from Greeks and Mesopotamia and then spread it over the Balkans by conquering other nations... Haha. History lesson...
Why is everyone obsessing over the origin of the recipe?Who cares? It's still delicious! It's definatelly turkish though. You can tell even by the name!Maybe people think it's greek because we make a lot here in greece. But I have to say the turkish version is hands down better!
The recipe looks great laura,I'll give it a try! :)
omg this is a dangerous recipe for me LOL I'm going to make them for sure. Your so adorable. I'm sending your link to your website to my newly engaged daughter. you remind me a lot of her
@MyGinger45 I am really to say so but it has almost nothing to do with Baklava simply because the whole beauty of baklava is in that "filo sheet" she mentions. "Filo" actually means leaf, in this case sheet, in Greek. We do not make baklava exactly because there is too much trouble. Baklava has to be in a big big pan all together and you have to poor extremely hot syrup in it at once..all together!
@iloveyousomuch513 Actually just about every ethnic group that's history goes back to the middle east has "claimed" Baklava to be theirs.. However there still lies no proof to any of their claims. Call Unsolved mysteries.
P.S Baklava used to be "Rich peoples food". That's pretty wild.
@CurrentlyZero so r u saying middle eastern ppl dont have money?? whatever.. its a middle eastern food. If u go to any middle eastern house trust me they have, its always served there. its not Greek what proof do u need? wat do u know about it?
@iloveyousomuch513 absolutely, but whatever the origins . . it's delish, isn't it . . and this is a great video!
you can check out Wikipedia to learn all you ever needed about the origins of Baklava. One of the oldest recipes actually appeared in a Chinese cookbook in the year 1330.
