i have never knocked johnny cash, i have every album this great man made,my only comment was that roger miller and king of the road were made for each other and no one ever matched him in singing this great song,in my opinion.
I'm old enough to have remembered being so sad when he passed away. King of the Road was the first song I ever learned to play by ear when I first picked up a flute. I grew up with Miller, Cash, the Rat Pack, Hudson and the jazz greats, and Tom Waits aside, music has been sapped of most of its spirit, soul, drive, and creativity. Then again, literature for the most part has done the same-become flaky and superficial.*Almost makes me wish publication still imposed a heavy cost. RIP Original King.
I wish country was still this good. Ive grown up with country my whole life, which isnt long considering I'm 15. But I've noticed the changes, and I can honestly say that I prefer this country other than what they have now :/
@frankduke28 You realize this IS Roger Miller's song, right... you know, he's the composer and singer and was the sole copyright holder of it til passing away (his wife finally got them back)? Cash and Miller TOGETHER were awesome, but don't knock a guy Cash looked up to--there's no honor in bashing his pal.
boring? u just cant accept tru talent before recording studios faked the voices into making them sound good nowdays people sound so much diffrent in concert i bet roger miller sounded the same both ways
I do believe this is the only country song I've ever loved. "If it's locked it ain't locked when no one's around." Too bad our culture is now so restrictive. Most of us don't remember when it really was a free country...
@MrHandsomeboynow boring? u just cant accept tru talent before recording studios faked the voices into making them sound good nowdays people sound so much diffrent in concert i bet roger miller sounded the same both ways
Don't know where you all come from but in my own opinion The Proclaimers do this song great justice ...if for no other reason than curiosity i recommend you give them a listen .. a genius modern sound to this song :)
@paulinesmith44 actually, i didn't understand that the prclaimers is the name of a band. so what you said didn't make sense. i did give them a listen and they're not bad.
This is the greatest song in the world for a sing-a-long! My sister and I always request it at places and get everyone to sing along with us. It changes the crowd. You can see it before your eyes. By the end of the song everyone are best friends.
this is back when music was actually music. these old vids like this are not just the song playing, they are actually singing them. not recorded. these guys are the true artists!
I love this song! I listened to it 3 times in the past hour. I love Roger Miller, but to all the people who are making fun of rappers... You should remember that this was pop music just like rap, Justin Bieber, and all of the others. Nothing really makes this superior in anyway. I am not trying to argue with people, but I am just laying it down as it is.
@MJroxOXO wayyyy to generalized, i would like you to listen to some contemporary music now and then (I dont mean the most radio crap, but you should try to find sth)
Now here's a walk down memory lane for me. I remember this song playing on the radio when I was about 2 years old, back in the early 60's. What a great, and distinct voice.
@animegalc4 as a child my father made a mix tape of xmas music. this one was mistakenly recorded on it. thus it becoming my favorite christmas song from my childhood. good times
LOL, we have a trailer park across town, I sing this every time we drive by, wife and kids look at me like im crazy but they listen to hip-hop so obviously have absolutely no taste in music, this song is awesome, so much feeling and humor to music of 50's-70's, then there hasnt been much good music since.
Wow..brings back some great childhood memories!! ty :D
