Oh my God...talk about bringing back memories. The house I was in when this show was on the air is demolished now, gone. But I swear to god seeing this, I felt the couch my brothers and I sat in and I have a very clear memory of the inside of that house. Eerie.
Now ya zee, the kids today, they don't know what they's missin' on the modern-day Nick. They think they alllll got it made with the Hannah Bananas and the Justin beavers and the hippin' and the hoppin' and the bippin' and the boppin'... Ya zee, the old Nick is like the old MTV, or Kodak color film, or a Jello puddin' pop, heh heh heh.
Can you believe Nickelodeon used to have reruns of this in the EARLY 90s? Can you even imagine that shit box that is modern-day Nickelodeon showing stuff like this?
I never had the Mortimer Ichabod Marker pen, but I so wanted one. My parents did subscribe to Picture Pages, but canceled after only one or two issues, since it was pretty expensive.
I had the Mortimer pen! I LOVED this show and I never missed an episode. This song and the "pinwheel" song are still stuck in my head to this day. I walk around singing them wherever I am...I've gotten quite a few laughs in the Commissary (we are an Army family). My kids think I am CRAZY! lol!
I had the Mortimer pen. I absolutely LOVED this show when I was a little kid and never missed an episode. I still, to this day, walk around singing this. My kids think I am crazy! lol
For about 30 years I have been singing this in my head (very rarely, but for 30 years.) I was OCD about making sure to sing every word from beginning to end. I sung it in my head or out loud - if alone and the mood struck me. It is great to be able to come here and validate myself in the glory that is this song. I hope that by coming here and playing it over and over, in time I will be able to overcome its grip.
They used to have these in some of my mom and grandmas magazines I would quickly grab the sheet out and tear it out of magazine and get to work on it.
Holy crap, what a memory! This is one of those shows that you look back on and think......"I can't believe I used to watch this.' LOL!! It's funny how weird, things seem, seeing them again after SO MANY years.
I'm still waiting for my picture pages to show up in the mail. What is funny my wife is too. Bill Cosby got rich off both of our parents money and never came through on mailing us our picture pages...that's why we still hold Speed Buggy as # 1
I can't get over how cool that chord change is when the lyric is "time to get your crayons and your pencils". What is that? Any Berkeley grads want to shed some light on what's going on?
Basically it's a five chord during "crayons and your pencils" then does an inverted major third to land on the six where it picks up. The cool thing you're hearing is the major third and the way the base goes from the fifth up a half step to the heart of that major third etc etc.
i totally had forgotten about picture pages!WOW...thank you sooo much for restoring apart of my childhood that i had burried deep deep into my subconscious like so many other childhood guilty pleasure's that get lost in coping with adult trivial matters.
they said he cut his salary expectations way, way back for the Electric Company as it was a project direct from President Nixon to help kids reading skills
This reminds me of getting ready for school in the morning when I was about 7. If I close my eyes I can smell the school cafeteria and that low-budget breakfast they'd feed us. Man, growing up sucks...
OH! I never knew the pen had a NAME! Thank yo VERY much! I am hard-of-hearing, so I mostly WATCHED the programs. This was BEFORE Closed Captioning! Thank you whoever invented Closed Captioning!
No problem. I only remembered it because it sounded really British and I was obsessed (and still slightly am) with anything British, LOL. Yes, whoever invented CC is a godsend.
I know im jumping in the conversation here but whatever, Python and Bean were great, no doubt but the best comedies for my dollar out of Jolly Ole' has to be The Young Ones and Ab Fab. Just my opinion
The only actor from Young Ones of real note was Rik Mayall who's claim to fame was playing Drop Dead Fred but that whole cast is awesome, and Ab Fab stared Jennifer Saunders of French and Saunders fame and Joanna Lumley. There are clips of these shows on youtube if your interested, funny shit
I remember this show when I was 5. I used to pretend I had my own little "Ichabod Marker" thingy Bill always used, and I'd make the sound effects too. :D
