this isnt to increase bench strength.... its to increase endurance.... all the reverse lateral raise does is send the lactic acid to another area so you can focus more in on your chest. people might get the wrong idea and think this is a little magic trick to get super strong super quick...DEBUNKED
@OOHSLAX25 don't think it's to low if you put your focus on bench you'll go up over time, en of my tenth grade year which is similar age to you then I only got up 155 I weight like 130 prob I'm in my senior year now and got up 245 last Friday my body weight is now 148, good job wih what you have so far just remember higher weight low reps for strength build and do tricep workouts too!
@OOHSLAX25 I mean your light weight and only 15 don't feel like its but just keep working at it end of my tenth grade year I was only doing 155.. I think that's similar age range of you I'm in y senior year I weigh 148 now and got 245 up last Friday just work for what ever your goal is man good job at what you have so far
Im 15 and weigh 137, and i can only bench 125 including the bar, and i feel like i should be able to lift heavier than that, we recently maxed out for football and i couldnt bench with one 45 on each end so i know 125 is my max, is this a bad thing? Or is it the right range for me
Errrr, for lactic acid to get from your front delts to your rear delts it has to go via your heart.
So if everything else you said is correct, reverse flys shouldn't be any better than doing any other muscle group which isn't invoved in the bench (although to be fair, depending on your style there can be loads of muscles you don't use, or only a couple)
I take a lot of weights and can do even up to 10-15 reps. i wanna put more muscles so i try to do with heavier weights. But the problem is when I do with dumbells my hands get tired too easily while my chest fees nothing at all. if i do with barbell to shake the stress off my arm then it pains in the wrist.
what should I do? any tips?
thanks for the videos btw, it helped me out a lot!
At the beginning stage just focus on begin consistent with your workouts. As you get more developed you'll be able to feel the individual muscles working more. But for now just use good exercise form and be consistent. All these little problems of your hands getting tired, etc. will take care of themselves as you get in better shape.
@leemhayward Thanks for the suggestion. I will definitely follow that
just for additional information, I have doing the workouts with proper forms and almost no shaking keeping the weights stable at an angle during dumbell chest press
i have been doing this workout for the past one and a half year. but still same thing is happening. instead i feel my chests workout more the day i put more emphasize on cable crossovers.
also im looking for more definition. should i just do cables then?
Try starting your workouts with cable cross overs first, then do your bench presses. This is referred to as pre-exhausting your chest and it will help you feel the muscles more during your workouts.
@leemhayward Thanks leemhayward. You're the best! it worked!
i also have a question on bulking up.
I wanna stop bulking up too much cause what ever I have already is enough compared to my height. as a result i dont wanna bulk up anymore but want to go for definition and more density.
what kinda workout should i do? people from the gym advised me to go high reps low weight, but low weight means less calorie burn. at the same time i wanna burn some fat down what should I do? ( im at 10% body fat)
The workouts can stay the same, what's going to determine if you gain weight or lose weight is your diet and cardio. If you need help with this I have a good program called "Extreme Fat Loss" that you can get on my website LeeHayward. com/dvd
is it normal to have a week that bench strength decreases? all my other body parts are growing and gaining strength but my bench always never wants to increase. For example ill do 205 for 5 reps and come back the next week and only get it for 3. is having a 410 dealift and struggling to bench 225 normal ?????
That's a sign that you need to change up your training and do some different exercise variations. Do a search for my video called "How To Bust Out Of A Bench Press Plateau".
Dude this looks similiar to the one u do on the bench just that u aint standing does it mean i dont need to do this i can instead do the bench version?
I'm pretty sure that lactic acid is a bi-product of anaerobic cellular respiration that influences *delayed* muscle soreness. There really isn't any acid to speak of in the muscles immediately after a set, or even 3 or 5. Aside from that, though, it sounds like an interesting tip I'll have to try.
Well that's no new stuff, if you work out a muscle after its antagonist muscle you'll have more strength, that's how our body works. If you do a set of triceps then a set of biceps you'll have more strength on the biceps exercise. Works also on chest/back, hams/quadriceps...
It would really depend on your individual strength levels. But you should use a weight that allows for at least 10-12 reps with good form. The idea here is to just pump the rear delts / upper back lightly in between each set of bench presses.
It basically helps ease up and remove some of that burning and congested feeling you often get when bench pressing. Thus allowing you to get more reps.
@leemhayward oh shit I didnt think you guys ever read the comments most people never respond. I appreciate it and im not being sarcastic im dead serious!
@six80ususus It's bro science. Research in the past 5 years shows that lactic acid doesn't actually cause any soreness to your muscle and is actually used to help fuel the muscle. So the entire lactic acid thing is a myth from old beliefs.
@ArmorPierce Oh really? Is that why people in the special forces have slow lactic acid build ups...? They can bang out 300+ push ups in 1 go and can jog on for at least 25km....
Bench press can certainly catch you by surprise, one week your making great progress and the next you can't increase at all. Great video Lee. This technique definitely works.
I like to build up all my the lactic acid in my dick. that way there's none left for my chest . Oh and I don't even have to work out because I drink muscle milk. haha I'm smarter than you...
I don't know how this works or what's really going, but I tried it... and went from a PR of 185x15 two weeks ago to a huge PR of 205x15 this week. Absolutely telling the truth. Needless to say, I'm going to be trying this technique quite often in the future. :) Thanks for the tip!
HEY LEE. In theory could i do this for all muscles. Such as if im doing curls, i go right into kick backs or if im front squatting do a set of hamstring curls?
First and for most the concept is correct but the idea of moving lactic acid around is off. To work your antagonist muscle is right in crease your bench, to get your chest stronger getting your back stronger is good but you can't just move lactic acid around. It's like doing spot fat loss it doesn't work. But a great concept and he is on point except for the physiology part.

You can wait a minute or two between each set. It really depends on how heavy you are training. If you want maximum strength than the more rest the better. But if you are going for a conditioning style pump up workout you can take shorter rest periods between sets.
if i finish a set of reverse flies, how long do i have to wait before i do a set bench press and how long do i have to wait to do another reverse flies after a bench press?
@vgfatw well the best thing for a higher bench is to work all aspects of the pectoral muscle , bench , dumbell bench, chest flys , incline bench , and my favorite is a hard4 set of pushups to failure
is a 225 bench at 15 years old good? cause i just hit my max today for football and i don't know where that puts me at, i weigh 208 pounds and i want to hit 300 max within the next 6 months, any tips or advice? and can i hit this goal?
@andrew1234halo3 when i was 14 i could bench 140 and now im 20 i can lift 400 but i play football for auburn i think thats has a thing to do with it i weight 150 when i was 14 now im 250 lmao good
@vgfatw your still young and it sounds like your doing good i maxed out 225 at 16 but im 160 lbs im 81 now and only bench 245 but you probably have another growth spurt to go. Just eat healthy and follow your strength training couaches routine. You should be benching around 270 by next year if you do it smart if not more. But for football not only you need a strong upper body you need a strong lower body (squats) and explosive strength (power cleans). Good luck hope i helped
@vgfatw at your age,15 you should be benching around 350 for 25 reps. I would take up fashion design or gardening. This will increase your natural levels of testosterone. Hope this helps
Hey man I appreciate this video. For a month I was stuck doing 140 pound bench press for 7 reps per set and I has no idea why I couldn't go any higher, then I saw your video and I attempted the reverse dumbbell flys and was able to do 150 lbs for 5 reps. I was really impressed and I felt a lot stronger around the shoulder area to. Thanks a lot man post more videos!!!
@badzero100 well did u listen to a word he said? its takeing the lactic acid "the chemical that causes muscles to fail and fatuge" out of your chest and front delts and into ur rear ones so u can do more reps. its a pretty simple concept and is a great tool for any lifter.
@badzero100 he never says its a bench excercise, you small minded fool. the whole point is to move the lactic acid away from the shoulders so you CAN do more on bench. gosh i hate the stupid people on youtube.
Would this work? Cuz i cant seem to get past the 225-305 lb bench press, but ineverything else i gotten stronger expect in my bench, its not weak but i wanna get stronger... thanks! check out my video
@kiLzeD It makes sense. More sets you do, the more fatigued your muscles get and the less weight you can do later on, right? Lactid acid causes that, and sending some of it to the opposite side of the body will help you lift like you did on the set before.
Doesn't lactic acid only occur during long strenuous exercise. lactic acid limits growth potential because it is a waste product secreted by the body. Benching should only consist of acclimation and progressiveness. My philosophy goes "The body must adapt to a new stress whether it be an extra rep or 5lb increment....."But anyways, i shall try this technique when i work my chest.
Never heard that you can move lactic from muscle to muscle. Not to mention taking blood out of a muscle and putting it in another. Drink water, complete a flexibility program, and rest. Water hydrate, flexibility improves range, and rest allows repair. Doing rear flys is an antagonist exercise allowing a little more recovery time for your agonist muscle group.
I am naturally a skinny person, and have been working out at the gym for about 6 months now, i am noticing mass gain. however, i am bench pressing the same weight as other, larger, more muscular guys down at my gym. I have been coached to use the correct technique. Is there anything i can do to make my bench press more effective without just increasing weight?
i give you props for working out in chuck taylors but wont the reverse flys in between set burn much needed energy for a heavy bench? i would recommend a quick light stretch of the muscles being used and a good rest period between sets. let me know if im wrong.
@T4NKD13S3L thats what im worried about too..hmm..might try it anyway..with like 15 or 20 pounds....do a set of 6-8 to get the blood flowing then wait like another 30 seconds
I'm 16 and right now I have a fairly avg. max, 205 lbs. But I'm trying to get that up and when I lift, while my muscles may not be tired or sore yet, I have an intense pain in my front and rear shoulder bone after the first 2 or 3 sets. I believe that I'm doing all of the proper stretcheing since I'm stretching chest, triceps, back, and shouders but I don't know why my shoulders would be hurting. Also, what's the best way to stengthen triceps?
@RebornPWNSHOPP I had the same problem. The only thing you are doing wrong is benching too much in proportion to other things. The reason your shoulder hurts is because you aren't training your upper back proportionately to your chest and frontal upper body.
your body hasnt got a set amount of latic acid to distribute to your body, the muscle you use produces latic acid when it cant get enough oxygen, so wtf you are tryin to do with this video i have no idea, try learning SOMETHING before u post videos on youtube
wait so do your bench set then do the reverse flys immediatley after...then do i give myself a 1 minute break until i do my bench set again or no break at all?????? im goin to the gym in the morning and ill check this in the morning if anyone could help?????? thanks

@andrew1234halo3 when i was 14 i could bench 140 and now im 20 i can lift 400 but i play football for auburn i think thats has a thing to do with it i weight 150 when i was 14 now im 250 lmao good
yungayayok 10 months ago
@vgfatw your still young and it sounds like your doing good i maxed out 225 at 16 but im 160 lbs im 81 now and only bench 245 but you probably have another growth spurt to go. Just eat healthy and follow your strength training couaches routine. You should be benching around 270 by next year if you do it smart if not more. But for football not only you need a strong upper body you need a strong lower body (squats) and explosive strength (power cleans). Good luck hope i helped

@vgfatw steroids
deandre2420 11 months ago
@vgfatw at your age,15 you should be benching around 350 for 25 reps. I would take up fashion design or gardening. This will increase your natural levels of testosterone. Hope this helps

Hey man I appreciate this video. For a month I was stuck doing 140 pound bench press for 7 reps per set and I has no idea why I couldn't go any higher, then I saw your video and I attempted the reverse dumbbell flys and was able to do 150 lbs for 5 reps. I was really impressed and I felt a lot stronger around the shoulder area to. Thanks a lot man post more videos!!!

badzero100 1 year ago
@badzero100 wow you figured that out by yourself? Read the title and listen
Necromni 1 year ago
@badzero100 well did u listen to a word he said? its takeing the lactic acid "the chemical that causes muscles to fail and fatuge" out of your chest and front delts and into ur rear ones so u can do more reps. its a pretty simple concept and is a great tool for any lifter.
czoraa21 1 year ago
@badzero100 he never says its a bench excercise, you small minded fool. the whole point is to move the lactic acid away from the shoulders so you CAN do more on bench. gosh i hate the stupid people on youtube.

i will try this tomorrow in my weight training class :D
ElastorXxX 1 year ago
Lol posterior Delts really...? that does not do anything to help you increase your bench.
kiLzeD 1 year ago
@kiLzeD It makes sense. More sets you do, the more fatigued your muscles get and the less weight you can do later on, right? Lactid acid causes that, and sending some of it to the opposite side of the body will help you lift like you did on the set before.
thefreak731 1 year ago
Doesn't lactic acid only occur during long strenuous exercise. lactic acid limits growth potential because it is a waste product secreted by the body. Benching should only consist of acclimation and progressiveness. My philosophy goes "The body must adapt to a new stress whether it be an extra rep or 5lb increment....."But anyways, i shall try this technique when i work my chest.
RUBAN0606 1 year ago
I shall try it tomorrow.

T4NKD13S3L 1 year ago

RebornPWNSHOPP 1 year ago
@RebornPWNSHOPP I had the same problem. The only thing you are doing wrong is benching too much in proportion to other things. The reason your shoulder hurts is because you aren't training your upper back proportionately to your chest and frontal upper body.

your body hasnt got a set amount of latic acid to distribute to your body, the muscle you use produces latic acid when it cant get enough oxygen, so wtf you are tryin to do with this video i have no idea, try learning SOMETHING before u post videos on youtube
LukeJones16 1 year ago
