  • ice age hehe

  • How would you go about using the keyboard sounds to record a song on garageband instead of the sounds provided in garageband?

  • Thanks for the upload! Will have fun checking out the sounds.Although the guitar is my thing,I picked up a keyboard for ambient stuff-Cheers!!!

  • @xXJmcmaxminecraftXx dude just choose bass or guitar from the list of instruments.

  • nice job thanks...

  • when you connect your piano and play something does garagebands 'songwriting' also work with what you play on the piano?

  • @freeridermaster0987 It should. Try it out and let me know.

  • @BobHenderson1 haha ok, i guess im gonna buy that piano now then :p will take a few weeks, ill let you know. and thanks for responding :)

  • can you use the sounds(synths) that are on the electric midi piano on garageband

  • @Frankieboy051 Yes. You will need to use a aux cable with an adapter and plug one side to the output or headphone section of your keyboard. Plug the other end to Garageband and choose 'real instrument' to record your keyboard sounds.

  • @BobHenderson1 thanks!!

  • I thought you had to put in both midi things ?

  • @MrNh97 i thought you did too... still trying to get this D:

  • @oOArtsyArtOo Oh i have figured it out you only have to plug the Midi out into the keyboard as then you can use your laptop as the sound driver to play the sound but this might have a delay

  • Thanks Bob. A great starter for using Midi in GarageBand. I appreciate you posting it.

  • And my piano is digital

  • @pinoykicks Check your MIDI Settings in Utilities > Audio MIDI > And Add new device...PLay around with the settings and see what you get...

  • @BobHenderson1 oh alright:)

  • And I;m using an Adagia Kdp-18 it has a Midi In and out.

  • I have the samething and tried what you did but theres no signal?

  • Thanks, man!! you saved me a bundle. I was tired of my old CTK 471. I got a cable for about $5 and now my Casio has a new life as a Garageband controller! It was plug and play, no lag, no problem. Awesome!

    Cheers.

  • hey man, i have the same Usbmidi you have, but the keyboard is Yamaha psr 540. It has midi ports but i cant seem to get it to work on any of my sound programs, i have a pc. Im messing around with it seeing what happens, but

  • @ageshero well, you would have to mess around with the settings on your computer. One of the problems might be that your computer doesn't have a MIDI driver installed. Check with a computer store or geek squad for some verification...

  • Bro, Where did you get the Usb Midi cable. I look everywhere for em ( Best Buy, radioshack, Wallmart Ext).

  • @compaq2560 Its not going to be there. You have to order online on eBay or Amazon...

  • how about window 7

    ?

  • @truazin Windows 7 doesn't have Garageband. So you might want to look at the manual for whatever software you're using on Windows...

  • Oh my goodness, I thought we wasted money and would have to invest in another keyboard. Thank you soooo much, I am now recording my pieces. Your instructions were easy to follow and I am so happy. You've made my mother's day! Thank you! All the Best to You!

  • Dude, two hours reading and reading ..... Your video '10 minutes' and I'm done

    THANK YOU !!!

  • @ThomBenjamin np bro

  • @PresidentLama Thats if your keyboard has a usb port.

  • how do you get garageband to play the sounds from the keyboard and not just the instruments in garageband?

  • @mowhit1 You would need to monitor your keyboard. Use a cable to connect the your keyboard through the headphone jack, into the input on your mac. Choose "real instrument" when you create a new track. Turn the monitoring on, if you wan to hear the keyboard. You may have to go into Garageband>Preferences to change the input drivers.

  • @BobHenderson1 Thank u

  • hey Bob, wanna ask you something. Do you ever use sustain pedal for your keyboard? I bought the same cable after watching your video, i have a digital piano with a sustain pedal, but when i press the pedal, garageband recognizes it as the E note instead of sustain, do you have a clue what went wrong?? Thank you so much >_<

  • @Olivievie What happens is that Garageband registers it as a keyboard note. If u notice, when you click Musical Typing, sustain is labeled as the Tab button. I've also experienced this problem. The problem is that Garageband does not allow the user to edit MIDI notes to whatever they want. To my knowledge there is no way to map out the sustain as an actual sustain and not a keyboard note. Only Logic Pro allows you to =(

  • @BobHenderson1

thank you so much bob, i'll see if there's anyway i can figure this out :(((

  • @BobHenderson1 Actually google MidiPipe 1.4.3 to remap the MIDI notes. I'll post a tutorial this weekend.

  • thanks for this video. is it possible to take the midi output from garage band (say midi notes generated thru the on screen keyboard) and send it to your yamah keyboard and invoke its sounds? u will use the midi-out on the usb midi interface?

  • @jagbot I'm not too sure but I'll have to say no, because I don't thing Garageband has the driver to send MIDI output from a USB port. Usually a device used to produce MIDI signals is called a MIDI controller. The onscreen keyboard is just a virtual representation of the notes being played.

  • Thank You Thank You Thank You

  • Hey have you tried hookin up your Yamaha DXTplorer via Midi to Garage band? If so how and how did you midi edit the notes.....?

  • @Utubermb1 I have tried doing so, but Garageband does not allow the user to edit the midi notes. You would have to use other MIDI mapping softwares like Logic Pro or a really good & easy one ez drummer. I've heard its really good.

  • ^^ that really helped...now im just gonna go find some cable that costs $5 instead of being foolish and buy the yamaha cable that comes with the drive, which would cost 60 bucks or so, thank you!!

  • Does the midi to usb cable needs any driver ?

  • @chicoton14 No just plug it in, and garageband recognizes it. If you want to change the driver, go to preferences.

  • I use Arena Run in Synth Basic to play octavarium solo on my Keyboard :)

  • BRO... YOU HAVE SAVED MY LIFE, THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!, THAAANKS!!!

  • i have a keyboard with a usb port instead of a midi input and output port. when i connect the usb to the keyboard and my mac, garageband does not recognize the keyboard. Any idea why?

  • @TaishaConfessionals Becuase its not Midi. Its a usb. You need a midi capable controller/keyboard. It MUST have a midi port(s) on the keyboard. Otherwise srry.

  • Thanks for the info Bob. I'm learning garage band ... and midi. I wanna know how to play a midi file through the keyboard to use the keyboards sounds.

  • hey man.. nice video...

do you know how can i change the midi channel of one track?

my situation is: i wanna create, for example, 16 tracks, each one with a diferent instrument and diferent midi channel, and then switch the midi channel by my controler to play in live.

    thanks for your atention

  • When I play the notes are being help out in garageband. I mean the usb works.

    It plays in garageband.

But when i press a key it will continue to play and wont stop.

  • Press spacebar.

  • @0chel0 Just press spacebar on garageband. Try playing again.
