@dcr1942 The repetition isn't too bad. And once you're done you're done for a year. (at least that's how long I leave my filters on for).
Velcro is an interesting idea. It may make a better seal around the edges and would still look nice. But you would still have to put the velcro on each filter every time you change it. Which could get expensive. I'll have to think about that though. Thanks.
@dml0007 Dude, I have never in my life seen an air purifier with the filter coming after the fan. Besides, if you put the filter after the fan all the dust and crap would get in the fan You would also have a greater chance of a seal breach since the fan would be pushing the filter away instead of pulling the filter in.
I put 2" wide packing tape for about 6" in the center of each side where the filter touches the fan. It holds together real easy & comes apart real easy to change the filter. much easier than ties.
An additional comment here - if you are going to filter at all, make sure you get a filter that removes especially small particulates. In general when breathing in particles, larger particles don't get as far into your lungs and so you can more easily filter them out (they end up in your stomach due to something called the mucocilliary escalator). The smaller particles can travel much farther into your lungs and can cause much more serious problems.
i read where someone uses a purity multi-stage cut-yourself filter(from walmart)and duct tape.I have not tried it yet,but i would wager it would be more effective and alot less trouble to put together
Is it a HEPA filter? I originally was going to put a "cut-yourselft" filter on over the HEPA filter but decided it was going to be much more hassle than it was worth. I may look into your suggestion though. Thanks for the tip.
@na15aj no,its not a hepa, its a non-pleated polyester or something type multi-stage filter. It also says to put the filter on the front of the fan,in this case, not the back.Thats what i read.I dont know how much trouble it would be to cut the material.
That's why, after I put on the first zip tie, it says on the bottom of the screen where to skip ahead to if you don't want to watch me put on the other three.
I'm not trying to be a smartass, but wouldn't putting the fan in an open window and blowing the air outside be just as effective? You wouldn'tt need to purchase a filter.
@mraybeck Simply put... No, not at all. Explanation... if you blew air out of a room and no air came in, you would eventually have very very low pressure inside of the room (a vacuum). You can't assume that blowing air out doesn't bring air in - it definitely brings air in, the flow is just not as concentrated. So basically you will suck in particulates regardless.
I would just Velcro the corners and center top and bottom(one inch. each.). A perfect seal is not necessary.

Too much repeat work for me. Maybe Velcro would make it easier to install and change filters

Dude you suppose to put the filter in the front of the fan if you want to clean the air not the back.

Why do you need zip ties or tape? if you turn on your fan, the filter will "cling" to it.
MrMelodiousThunk 5 months ago
@MrMelodiousThunk
Since air passes through the filter any "cling" effect is eliminated.

@na15aj: Huh? The filters cling to my two fans just fine. Maybe your filters are more "porous" than mine?

Dude, you seriously need to edit your video. We don't need to watch you struggling with zip ties for 6 minutes.

Box fans of today are junk. This might be worth it if it were done with a vintage box fan. But its still very clever.
Astromchaser 1 year ago
@Astromchaser Why do you post this on every box fan air filter video? Do you work for an air purifier company?
CensorshipFTL 1 year ago
@CensorshipFTL If your gonna purify air with a box fan. You should use a vintage one.
Astromchaser 1 year ago
use tape much much easier...
