  • :D

  • this song is amazing. Thee put the right font for it, too.

  • Fantastisch das Lied

  • i like all the versions of this song, apart from the simon and gurfunkel version, they changed it way to much for my liking...

  • @sdp obvious troll is obvious

  • I really have no idea who is better: Liv Kristine or Simone Simons. Both seem to be on a whole different level than the rest of the vocalists in the world.

  • chillingly good

  • Viajo

  • Your right, I can`t stand metal,. Like I said about the Pet Shop Boys making a attempt at doing Bridge Over Troubled Water, they made such a mess of the song it could be used to torture people. Unless of course one happens to like their style of music I suppose. But really, some songs should not be altered in such a fashion. Call me old fashioned or whatever, but I never thought I would ever hear a version of Scarborough Fair that I just utterly couldn`t stand.

  • @sdp dude if u dont like fucken metal then dont fucken listen to it.

  • @feehan0 If it hasn`t occurred to you, I don`t listen to metal. If that`s what you like good for you. I however did listen to this particular version of Scarborough Fair because it is one of my all time favorite songs. I expressed my displeasure with the channges done to the song. The last time I checked I youtube allowed people to express one`s opinion. So rest assured I won`t listen to this particular version again. Happy ?

  • I`ve heard a number of people sing Scarborough Fair and this is by far the worst ever. Really, a electric guitar solo ? Please.....It`s almost as bad as when the Pet Shop Boys made a oh so pathetic attempt at singing Bridge Over Troubled Water.....Sometimes it better to leave well enough alone.

  • @sdp Dude...you are listening to a metal band and are surprised there's a guitar solo? :D

  • @sdp lol this is the only version of this song I can stand. Its not a bad song, you just dont like metal.

  • amazing cover version; the guitar solo at 2:00 gives me goose bumps

  • this is the most brilliant rendition i've heard of this song. simon n the funky dude did a good job, but this just kicks all ass n no prisoners. wish they'd to more non-viking songs. im a metal head from the old school (really old school- bought my first sabbath album when it really was an album, as in a record), n i've heard it all. i've very eclectic taste, but i know descent musicians, and i'm quite surprised. these guys got it. can't make up my mind on the production, but it's still awesome.

  • WOW! I didn't know they did this song. Awesome! I love yinz!

  • this is easily my favorite cover of this song.

  • Queeee demasiado buena esta version... no la conocia gracias a @envicar

  • where are they from they are astonishing!

  • Liv Kristine makes my little soldier stand at attention

  • @R3dp055um

    LOL!

  • This sucks celtic woman is better even laura whight is better then this!!!!!

  • @zoegoodfellow1988 soft. like medicated cotton....

  • leaves' eyes sucks

  • @descendingwinters maybe, but this song rocks the house. they may be a bit too sccca for me, but hey, i call 'em like i see em. metallica sucks now too, but they had 3 icredible records, some of the best of all time. the guitar isn't exactly vai, but the drums n bass are spot-on for this song. and you gotta admit this chick has pipes to die for....

  • i meant singing

  • somehow their look doesn't really match what their saying but i'm not judging any of them....it just looks ackward but i love her voice~~~~

  • the qeen of darkness shall marry a demon of water and he shall be crowned king of darkness and their daughter shall rule the Island of temptation thumbs upp if you understand what I mean

  • You won't find an origional recording, this song is pretty old and many versions are out there.

  • Why can one find soming about arry potta in evry picture of an Irish band?

  • @NomatoblastStudios I don't know. But Leaves' Eyes is German, except for the lead singer. I think she's Norwegien. She used to be in a band called Theatre of Tragedy.

  • All that I know about this song is that it's about a man or woman who experienced unrequited love, and the person who rejected them now decides they want them. The narrator is still bitter over all that has happened (despite trying to heal), so they tell the one who rejected them to complete these impossible tasks and THEN come back. The story in a nutshell: "I'm still not over you hurting me, and NOW I'm good enough for you?! I'll take you back when pigs fly!"

  • awesome

  • That was kick ass...

  • I'm going to see them on "Hexentanz-Festival" here in Germany next year. I hope they play Scarborough Fair.

  • Amazing, I love this

  • love this!

  • Respond to this video... i see her i think... HOTT OPERA SINGER!!! i see the rest of the band and think death metal xD

  • @jtfrost27 Which is often the case in this genre

  • @RianJeucken ikr.... XD

  • whatever- ITZ FUKIN EPIC.... ive been raping the replay button for 3 days now. and she still hasn't had enough.

  • very creative to say the least

  • folk metal????

  • wow. wishin for some rolling double bass- but otherwise perfect. lovin the chicks voice. im sorta blown away....

  • a wonderful song that reminds me green island

  • very good

  • I live next to a city called Scarborough. :3

  • @omegaxxxxx thats fair...

  • Perfekt song....

  • May I just say: EPIC hair.

  • man i love them. they kick ass hard core. its a good mix.

  • i the mix of the soft voice and metal instruments... has a soft core but a hard shell

  • Liv reminds me of Luna Lovegood in this picture.

  • loveeee it =D

  • Listened to this... it's very good, but it's nothing compared to My Dying Bride and Sarah Brightman's versions.

Leaves Eyes's acoustic version is better.

  • Scandinavian and German Bands Rock !

And here the Fusion of both works :p

  • Oh my...this composition of Scarborough has just moved me. I've subscribed buddy.

  • I think she wants a field of weed.

  • To everyone arguing about the meaning behind the song. Please stop, the beauty of art is in its ability to be interpreted different ways based upon the audience's experiences and beliefs. Stop ruining wonderful songs by arguing over such things.

  • Comment removed

  • @DruidRobur There is such a thing called authorial intent and wrong interpretations. Have you never taken an English class? Tell this to a college professor that every interpretation is a right interpretation depending on a person's experience and belief and he will kick you out.

  • @YulieAna You're right there is such a thing as authorial intent, but the author does not own the content. He shares it with the reader. There is a dynamic balance between the receiver of a work of art and the one who casts the art. Saying that one person's interpretation is right is a very narrow-minded view of it. You're right, there is such a thing as a bad interpretation. They're the interpretations that are completely off-base and the interpreter can't explain why they thought as such.

  • @DruidRobur Any interpreter/author who puts meaning into his work knows of his own message to his audience and can give a functional explanation why some give the wrong interpretation. Again, it's called authorial intent and every author, who doesn't pull material out of his/her ass, knows what he is talking about. What do you mean an author does not own the content? He wrote it, he created it, he owns it. That's why we have intellectual property laws.

  • How can anyone not like this song, it's utterly brilliant.

  • A nice and modern version of a very interesting ballad.

  • This song might also refer to the black plague. It's about one person not able to see their loved one because they have fallen ill. Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme were thought to ward off the smelling of the dying and also said to protect others from it. A plain cambric shirt is one that someone is buried in.

It's basically a lover's last dying wishes. But that is from what i have heard and read.

  • @Maeday28: No It's not. It's a modification of the Elfin Prince, which all about an uninterested suitor creating impossible tasks to keep from getting raped by an elf. The modern version is of a former lover telling someone to pass on a series of impossible tasks for a person they once loved, which if completed would lead to them being taken back. NOT because they love them, because they f'ing HATE them now. And "every rose grows merry with time" was changed to herbs as a silly play on words =)

  • @Maeday2actually, everyone in England HAD to buried in wool - that was the law - and not a cambric shirt which is made from cotton. Great song though.

  • dude with the short hair looks like me with short hair and a goatee (which i've been trying to grow)

  • It's not about rejection. If you read all of the traditional lyrics, you'll see the singer says: let me know that at least you will try... love imposes impossible tasks, though never more than your own heart asks... The singer wants his true love back, but only once he knows she'll do / try anything to prover her own true love for him. And this is a great version!

  • I used to think Simon and Garfunkels version was the greatest, and certainly it is a masterful piece and very haunting. However, since learning of how Paul Simon basically stole the copyright from Martin Carthay (who had produced it previously), it somewhat tainted the version for me. Also the addition of war lyrics i find contrasts with the antiquity of the song. I prefer to imagine the song is indeed about the plague as has been suggested many times before. I now prefer Celtic Womans version!

  • I applaud your knowledge of the date of the original...I knew it was an old old song but I was referring to the original mainstream version. I am sure this version is nowhere close grammitically to the original peice. I do respect your knowledge and appreciation for this wonderful song. I just have so much love for how simon and garfunkel entwined certain lines with two totally different thoughts, but were still refering to the same situation. I bow lovingly to your accurate correction!

  • @turnercorn1 as popular as Simon and Garfunkel's version is, it is in no way the original. The lines about war were added in, they have nothing to do with the original piece.

  • My dear you must be young! Listen to the original by simon and garfunkel. There you will hear the rest of the lyrics. They are in the background. They tell of the war going on while the singer is reminiscing of a love he once had. Both lyrics refer to the fact that he will never make it home to her. Your appreciation for this song will soar once you understand...please open up your mind to the original...these people singing this ...well, I love you, but am sorry you don't really understan

  • @turnercorn1 Scarborough Fair is an old, traditional English ballad derived from some Scottish song about an elf in the seventeenth century. I can assure you that the Simon And Garfunkel version is NOT the original.

  • @CabbageNappa

But where do i find the original version?

  • @CabbageNappa Actually it’s really close if you don’t count the war stuff in the background

  • Wtf great song but its like harry potter Luna is the singer and snape on the right of her love this version and u guys listen to my destiny by them its good

  • OMG

The guy on the right looks like SNEEPS FROM HARREH POTTAH

  • @karasuuuuuuuuuuu hahahahahahahahah!!!!! yeah he does!

  • @karasuuuuuuuuuuu Loool Yehh

  • @karasuuuuuuuuuuu It's SNAPE, and yeah he does look a bit like him but for the hair... well who would think that in his youth, aside from being a death eater, Snape was into power metal and dyed his hair lol

  • @Augustus077 Okay, I just have to interject here xD I was in Amsterdam when the last Harry Potter movie came out, so I saw the whole thing with Dutch subtitles. And in Dutch, Snape was refered to as "Sneep". Odd, but really funny and oddly fitting in this circumstance.

  • @ErosOfAchilles Sneeps ahahahaha Still I do like the idea of him forming a metal band, whether he is called Snape or Sneeps xd And I would be more than happy if it were like Leave's Eyes which is just awesome... and the style would suit him, can't imagine Snape singing something like Toxic lol

  • @Augustus077 Sneeps is a joke. Don't remember where it's from, but I know it's from some kind of silliness.

  • @karasuuuuuuuuuuu kinda looks like dave mustaine

  • @karasuuuuuuuuuuu which HP? i don't remember any sneeps o.O

  • @karasuuuuuuuuuuu Who? If u mean Snape, then he kinda does!!!!

  • @karasuuuuuuuuuuu MERLIN'S BEARD, 'ARRY! DA SINGER LOOKS LIKE LUNA LOVEGOOD.

  • @ShadowPoet174 i couldn't stop laughing when i saw that

  • @ShadowPoet174 Luna Lovegood mixed with Rita Skeeter.

  • @Emper0rH0rde Holy shit... you're right!

  • @karasuuuuuuuuuuu Actually he looks more like Lucious Malfoy with black hair.......just sayin

  • @jdhed1 I think they meant the guy to the right of Liv? The one with brown hair. The guy all the way to the left looks like Lucius with black hair though.

  • Muy parecido al tema de Mago de Oz, duerme ...

  • my mom's fav song... why? her name's IN the lyrics (Rosemary) XD

  • Not sure i like this version. The instrumentals seem to over power the vocals a bit, and i also think it detracts from the the core of the song (a sad and melodic, ancient folk song) with a soft and haunting appeal because of its history. But thats just my opinion, plenty of other people think it works!

  • i like it! it's different then wat i ever heard before =)

  • Nice cover. (:

  • There is no spite in this song...It is about a soldier who knows he will never make it hope to his true love, "his true spice of life". She can't do the things he ask of her, because it is just as impossible for him to make it back to her. He is on the side of a hill in a deep forest green, then he is on the side of a hill with sprinkling of leaves, then on a snow crested brown, he has been there through the seasons! As a general orders his soldiers to kill... he is remembering what was.

  • @turnercorn1

The things can't be done, because they are flat out impossible, not because of where the person is.

Making a shirt without needlework or seams? An acre of land between the sea and the shore? They don't exist and thus can't be made or found... and that's why it's asked for. She doesn't love the person, so she says "you can be my true love when you can complete this completely, ridiculously, impossible task" (in other words: NEVER).

It's a song about rejection, not love.

  • such a European beauty

  • Tambien se escucha increible con Sarah Brightman, la verdad que las dos son increiblemente maravillosas

  • this photo reminds of Harry Potter xd

  • @topy2725 You're right. She is so Luna Lovegood's adult version...

  • I wish that the mix had the voices more forward -- I can barely hear their voices! This is a common problem for this genre of music and for American and British produced mixes... Other nations prefer to have the vocal stand out above the accompaniment... I don't get it!

  • they don´t look very friendly :D but I like the song :)

  • Now this Rocks! Simon and Garfunkel Pumped turned up to 100!

  • This is so awesome I love this <33

  • Wow....that's all I can say about this version.

  • Amazing.I love what youve done to the song! Keep it rolling :D

  • Luka Megurine sung this better in my opinion.

  • and then i was like dude no way, thats not a horse and he was like dude, thats a otal horse. So I was like dude what about the jack ass? lol Crazy shit people

  • cool...

  • what a beautiful voice

  • Seriously, she has the most beautiful voice ever. Her and Sharon Den Adel from WT are amazing.

  • this is fuckin sick!!!!

  • The original, acording to a search on internet I've done on the paste is not Simon & Garfunkel despite the popular belief, its a traditional british song dating in medieval times and it was sung one verse by female, one by male. I love the Sarah Brightman's, Omnia's and Medieaval babes' version and this one's a nicevesion and can join in the other 3 versions on my Scarbourough Fair hall of fame :P

  • i can't stop listening to this song <3<3<3

  • I think I had a minor heart attack...

THIS WAS SO BADASS!!! The original is awesome in its own right, but this is awesome in an entire different way, its hard to tell which one I love more.

I would easily kill for the ability to play music of beauty comparable to this song, and the original.

  • @almafiina Lots of other bands have done so before. It depends on the gender/orientation of the singer. Celtic Woman and the Mediaeval Baebes both sing 'he'.

  • shes hawt!!!! sorry to state the obvious, love the way she says scarborough

  • shes hawt!!!! sorry to state the obvious

  • BRAVO!!

  • simon and garfunkel did this song in the 60s

  • THIS SHIT IS SICK!! kick ass

  • I love this version but it disturbs me that they changed "she" to "he"...

  • @almafiina its been sung both ways before :P (just sayin)

  • @almafiina As replied earlier it's been sung both ways in the past many many.....many years, "he" or "she" depending on the gender of the singer, but if you listen closely to this cover her husband in the background is singing "she" and Liv is singing "he" if it makes you feel any better ;)

  • @GoldenOakFarm haha okey :p

  • I love this song no matter who does it :)

  • what album is this from?

  • @cosettemalfoy this song is from their third album of studio, "Njord"

  • This version of Scarborough fair is really nice! :D

It's different from the version Sarah Brightman sings, but that doesn't really matter this time, they're both awesome! :D

  • Holy shit! this is liv kristen from nymphetamine of cradle of filth @_@ this song is bound to be beyond epic!

  • Its so epic...like 'Lord of the ring´' song...I like all this songs.

  • I greatly like this song and the best is that i have seen them live:D

god that was a great show. If the music technician wasn't an idiot with the sound:(

  • im sorry good voice but the rest was shit

  • @jaxfromcanada

Well, jax, let's just say it is not to your taste. That doesn't necessarily make it shit.

OK, you're not into metal. For the most part, neither am I, I just happen to love this song. But you'd be hard pressed to find fault with this version on any technical level. The musicians are technically proficient to a highly respectable degree. The production is polished.

*I* might have mixed it differently, with her voice more in the foreground, and the music down a little.

  • @R3dp055um no in really into metak it was just shit that wasent metal that was lets he how fast we can play something random

  • Awesome voice~! I had never heard of this woman until 3 minutes ago, but she is now on my all-time favorites list as far as female vocalists.

This trumps the version by "Celtic Woman" (gods, how I loathe that name, like, couldn't you think of ANYTHING else?).

  • OMG! I love Scarborough fair (my favorite version was Simon & Garfunkel's).. and I love Liv but I had no idea this existed!! Awesome!!! :D Brilliant!

  • it should be a crime to hate this, its is a brilliant song

  • sis i mention...i love

  • @KlimovArtem1

"According to it's content", there's some spite in there. It's not a tender love song... it's a past lover being rejected, unless they can finish impossible tasks.

A modern equivalent would be like, "Yeah, I'll marry you... when pigs fly."

There's nothing soft about the "content".

  • @withindarkness

Agreed, that's been my opinion for a while now. Thanks for confirming.

  • @withindarkness I agree- listen to what the singer asks for... may also be the reason it is in a minor key, to accent the hurt.

  • @withindarkness

I have done a lot of research into the back story of the the song and if you look at all of the impossible task and the time the original ballad came out it is probable that it is talking about the black plague. As for the four herbs parsley sage rosemary and thyme there are 2 possible explanations. 1 They used to be believed to ward off the plague or 2 ingredients for a love potion.

  • @Passwordprotectedful

Actually, older versions say "sober and grave grows merry with time" or some variant... an equally likely explanation is that they have no meaning at all.

  • @withindarkness

The song is about a woman setting a list of impossible tasks for a suitor (making a shirt without stitches, etc.) as an offhanded way of rejecting him. Since spices were extremely expensive and rare back at the time the song was made, it could be simply another herculean task for the suitor.

  • The first guy on right looks like that bad teacher from Harry Potter , forgot his name :/

  • You know, I was thinking to myself "Should I buy the album, or just the song? Because no doubt the rest are rubbish" but I got the entire album, and you know, I'm glad I did, I love all their songs on this Album

    Thank you

  • One more Nightwish clone ? This melody should sound very lyricall and soft according to its content, so they just spoiled it...

  • @KlimovArtem1 Liv Kristine has been active in this genre since 1993. Nightwish didn't exist until 1996. Learn a little bit before you spout off your mouth like an idiot. Leaves Eyes are the real deal.

  • @KlimovArtem1 they dont really sound like nightwish at all. & night wish is one of my favorite bands.

her voice is soft, which makes up for the instrumental part. although im not crazy about the solo before the last verse...

does anyone else know if this band is good? i kindaa think i like them, but i dont wanna waste my time looking stuff up if none of it is any good other than this one haha. if you know, reply to me? (:

  • @BeMyMannequin Heya, I consider them quite good actually, as well as old Theatre of Tragedy stuff, if you like Nightwish similar bands, this is a good band for you, although I agree, that they sound quite different. To me Liv, the singer here and Tarja, each in their own way, are my fav two female metal singers. Tarja ist powerful, Liv is more angelic, both pretty and talented.

  • @BeMyMannequin Some songs that I like from them are: Through Our Veins, My Destiny (has a really cool music video as well as great song) Holy Bond, and Irish Rain.

  • I was going to say, isn't this an old English folk song...

  • Also. Diese Verion von Scarborough Fair ist mal eine Abwechslung. :)

    Gefällt mir:)

  • I like this version. The edge/rockish flair they put into it is pretty cool.

  • I found the answer ;)
