  • This was my favorite movie when I was 14

  • Thanks for uploading this classic drama.

  • Oh God, Armand... I never pictured him to be so young while I was reading the book. He's gorgeous...!

  • That's Magneto playing Jane's creepy boyfriend!

  • @leananshae CREEPY AS USUALL ONE COULD SAY :D

  • it would seem your friend is in distress, to the rescue! FAVORITE MOVIE OF ALL TIME :D

  • *sniff* *sniff* Ahmen

    LOVE IT!~

  • @aeleta247 glad i showed you this movie, huh?

  • @fofanna1477 Very glad Sam, Very

  • "To the rescue!" xD

  • Jane semore is so pretty

  • Way before the days of Ian McKellens' Magneto. :) <3 I love this movie!!

  • I'm so happy this movie is up here-- no matter where I look, I can't find it to buy. Thank you <3

  • Bravo that Ian can give anyone "the creeps". He does it so well. And snuff as well as other aromatics were helpfull to disguise the ever pressent stench in london by coal smoke and dust and open sewers.

  • @sherriffnoldie ..as well as other Londoners. Not a lot of bathing going on back then.

  • I am forever gratefull to Mr. McKellen for his great talents. A remarkable actor.

  • Ian McKellen is absolutely beautiful!!

  • He is inhaling something called "snuff" which is, in short, ground up tobacco. Apparently it was all the rage in the 17th and 18th centuries in Europe.

On another note, Paul Chauvelin gives me the creeps.... =/

  • I freakin love this movie.

  • was that coke he just snorted as he said 'amen' lol

  • I'm surprised that Hollywood hasn't remade this movie yet...If casted properly it be wonderful.

  • @jennrobertson1 I only know that there will be a British Production (movie I think), starring English actor Neil Jackson

  • @jennrobertson1 They had a TV series on it. It added some gadets and such, which I thought was fitting, but the emotional tone was all wrong. They really tried to make it a light-hearted adventure series...and, most oddly, they really blurred Percy's character so he was kind of foppish the entire time. The character is interesting because he has a distinct fake personality and the writers of the TV series really didn't understand that.

  • I find it odd that Jane Seymour has a English accent and not a French one....always wondered about that...that aside: she is drop dead gorgeous. (:

  • @MrFrenchie36 And Chauvlin, agent of the French Republic (aka Gandalf) having a thick English accent doesn't bother you? ^_^ I'm in total agreement about Jane Seymour. Very pretty lady, even with mutton-chop hair.

  • @MrFrenchie36 why do you find that odd?! Jane Seymour is an Englishwoman. All the actors and actresses in the movie are English, as far as I know. Oh and agree - Jane Seymour is stunning.

  • *sigh* Where are the Scarlet Pimpernel's of today?

  • @miltonsfound We don't need another privileged capitalist favouring Scarlet Pimpernel of today, rather what we need to bring back is Madam Guillotine for the ultra greedy capitalists that brings down economies and watch as people lose their jobs and starve.

  • @rivlukcoltd I really hope you're joking here...but I've read enough left-wing blogs to know what you're saying isn't uncommon.

By the way, greed doesn't make you rich. Try it. What makes you wealthy (exceptions for thieves, government employees and inheritors) is generating more goods for society than you consume. It's the definition of profit. You should really take an economics course before you advocate the slaughter of people who make your life better by virtue of their labor.

  • @darwinkilledgod Instead of reading a textbook why don't you go watching the news? Big corporations are making record profits while the unemployment rate is shooting upwards, foreclosure spinning out of control. Just look at Verizon for example, they made $6billion in profit in 2010 and received $2.4billion in TAX RETURN! Then denied better healthcare for their employees on strike. So enlighten me exactly where the "trickling down" is? Guillotine was a joke, so is the virtue of their "labour"

  • @rivlukcoltd So...a company makes a phone that beams signals to space and back allowing me to talk live with any member of my family more or less across the globe... and I should hate them for it because they didn't provide this service for free?

No corporation "denied" healthcare. Denying healthcare is what government monopolies do. In a free market, the worst a company can do is not pay for your healthcare. Very different. By your logic, they "denied" them food and shelter as well...

  • @darwinkilledgod There you conservatives go again, your logic sickens me. So according to your precious "free market" economy the companies should pay minimum and reap the most benefits while disregarding the safety and health of the very people who FORGED the enterprise? You see what you don't get is, the free market economy is GREAT if the economy consists of small/mid size businesses. It is NOT, it's filled with powerful greedy giants who literally earn more than some countries's entire GDP.

  • @rivlukcoltd

Trickle down economics is the biggest scam on poor people since the concept of heaven.

  • Oh my God. AWKWARD when Percy steps in on their...'moment'. :P

  • I am so obsessed with The Scarlet Pimpernel. (hence, my username). I was wondering if anyone has any clue where I could purchase a ring like the one Anthony wore in this movie. I've spent hours searching but I can't find it. :( it would mean a lot to me if anyone had any clue where I could find it. Thanks! :)

  • Umm, what is he snorting at 1:23????

  • @ChristandI45 Snuff, was very common in those days :) Thats how people took tobacco before cigarettes

  • Wait---WHAT? Percy and Marguerite weren't married in here?

  • Scarlet Pimpernel for president 2012!!!!!!!

  • percy is bad ass he's awesome

  • PERCY IS SOOOO COOOL

  • 1:17 he looks so proud of himself. :)

  • @texasgirl2299 amen

  • I've loved this film since I was six years old and it is STILL my favorite romantic film at 22.

  • @IreneSharda3 Me too! Saw the movie when I was 8, and read the book when I was 12! A brilliant story! :)

  • @rad4life1 I read the first and second books, but I still think that I like the movie even better than them. The romance just wasn't the same and I missed the first meeting between Percy and Marguerite which is one of my favorite parts.

  • @IreneSharda3 me 2

  • This is the best love/adventure movie in the entire world!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I adore this film, and everything Sir Percy says - this is just as brilliant, if not more so than the book! My new favourite film, no contest.

  • I just love how Sir Percy just so nonchalalntly pitches those that guy into the water and goes to the other guy and says "Would seem your friend...is in distress. To the rescue!" Soo cute!!

  • Who do you think would win in a fight between the Scarlet Pimpernel and Batman?

  • @jimbrown257 Batman, out of respect for the Scarlet Pimpernel, wouldn't fight him. So, the Scarlet Pimpernel wins by virtue of the respect and awe accorded him.

  • @jimbrown257 Zorro. Hands down.

  • @DefenderOfEnglish

Dammit, I'm sick of all these foreign superheroes sneaking over here and stealing derring-do from American crime fighters!

  • @jimbrown257 I trust you're not thinking that Zorro is foreign. Diego de la Vega was born in La Ciudad de Los Angeles. Unless a person is not 'American' if they lived in California before it was American... Besides, Percy is cool.

  • 4:05-Twitterpated!

    Gotta Love Percy <3

  • hmm just wondering...why didn't Suzanne and her parents escape Paris and France?

  • "Oh thank heavens, God bless the scarlet pimpernel ho ever he may be, surely he must be an angel in deskice"

    "Snift snift,AMEN"

  • Suzanne is so pretty :)

  • Gandalf! Someone is showing youth. Ian McKellan was a wee bit younger. I look at him playing Gandalf and say "Chauvlin."

  • t'would seem your friend...is in ditress........to the rescue!!! lol. classic.

  • @marrionberry061 "yours I believe" chucks knife over shoulder

  • I was sooooo in love with Anthony Andrews after this movie....

  • Snuff is such a disgusting habit. I'm so glad it's not around anymore.

  • @shorecallssea not more disgusting than cigarettes..

  • cool swordstick

  • fantastic movie

  • Percy has such class :D I love how his voice changes when he sees her face at 4:05

  • Percy has such class :D

  • is anthony andrews still living? this is by far my favorite role of his

  • @skydancinghobbit yeah he's still with us look him up on imdb.com

  • WHY and HOW are people comparing this to twilight?! I would really like to know!!!!!!!!

  • "he must be an angel in disguise" - "amen" lol

  • poor chauvilin...if jacob black was evil and a cowerd, this might be what twilight would be.

  • *sniff* *sniff* Amen.

  • 1982??? whoa!!! I'm not in this world yet... but this is so good... thanks for posting!

  • Haha, Ian is so young :)

  • @ditush I KNOW RIGHT?!?

  • You are totally awesome for uploading this. Many thanks!!

  • I like this movie, but the camera work needed to be better. It's too close to the actors' faces. Gives me a headache if I sit too close to the screen.

  • James Villiers AHOY!

  • Armand St Just is so handsome

  • its suprising the English aristocracy would save the French aristocracy. one would think that English nobles would be drooling over all the suddenly vacant aristocratic lands in France! and since France was unstable, it was ripe for a lightning strike invasion! all that land gained then later lost after Agincourt could have been regained!!

  • @acerb45666555 According to the book, the English rescue the French aristocrats "for the mere sport of it" - because it's fun risking their lives and escaping time after time.

  • @acerb45666555 Actually, English nobles were terrified of the French revolution. The murdering attitudes and actions could have carried over at any time.

  • @lisambofoh well as u can see, this englishman aint scared of nothing. lol

  • Is it just me, or was anyone else thoroughly irritated at the way Sir Percy speaks in society? I've gotten used to it but it was horrid at first.

  • @aDieuSeul It's called an "affected voice", which is another way Percy disguises his true identity. He's supposed to appear to the public as, quote: "a fop, a nitwit." His affectation, attention to appearance, and silliness are supposed to throw any suspicion off, especially as he's a British noble in France. If people think he's a harmless ninny, they're not likely to link him to the Scarlet Pimpernel. Only with those he trusts does he drop the affected accent, and speak with his true voice.

  • @redrosestoo It's not the tone that bothered me, it was the way he split his sentences into parts. I do understand what you mean though

  • I so wish they made movies like this now.Anthony Andrews is simply the best in these type of movies.

  • Damn, Ian McKellen was hot back then. Such a briliant actor <3

  • I'm writing a paper on emo culture for anthropology class. I'd like to see the expressions aristrocrates would make when coming across the generations of today. :)

"Dear me, that person looks as if they had a turn of gothic implementations!"

    "I'm not Gothic, I'm emo!!!!"

"An emu, you certainly are not."

    "EMO! I'm EMO YOU IDIOT!"

  • AW his eyes COMPLETELY changed when he saw her :) <3

  • Odds fish, my deah!

  • "It seems your friend......is in distress......" hahahaha....

  • @RosesNightengales To the rescue! BWAHAHAHAHA. This is too much than I can handle. I believe I cracked two ribs on that one.

  • LMAO. One of my favorite lines of all times.

"It seems your friend is in distress.. to the rescue!"

  • @SnowQueen25 haha yeah - and the look on his face! lol.

  • this is absolutely fantastic. thank you.

  • GANDALF!!!!!

  • @REIworker omg i <3333333 Ian Mckellan (sorry i cant spell)

  • @REIworker the 'black' wizard
