I'm not trying to offend anyone here (honestly). I like Giacchino and he's composing for a more action orientated Star Trek film, but I don't think he's ready to do this kind of film at this stage of his career. There's a lot of propulsion in the score but not much depth (which is mostly the fault of the film and it's script). I honestly couldn't form any clear impression of the score when I saw the film in the cinema. Maybe the sequel will give Giacchino more scope to compose.
