yea parkour is moving through the environment around you as fast and as efficiently as you can. With basic cat leaps and vaults. But freerunning has some concepts of parkour but with urban gymnastics or flips. so its like 50-50. That's what makes all the difference.
well apperently the 2 arent even suposed to be mixed :S, free running is tricking from what ive heard (i think you guys are right but this is just what ive heard ^^) thus leaving parkour on its own :O
Shameful? w00tparkour is right its not like you need to know proper terms like "kong" "dash" and whatever else to be a traceur just like you don't need to differentiate between freerunning and parkour to move. and besides the only reason freerunning and parkour are labeled and different from one another are because of dumb debates (like this one) on the internet.
What do you think David Belle and Sebastian Foucan split over? This is not a silly internet debate...its a real debate...something i don't exspect you to understand.
I know there are differences between Parkour and freerunning that was not the point of my comment, my point was that you can spend all the time you want separating Freerunning and parkour but it doesn't matter because basically the only thing that separates us from one another is that some of us can do flips and some cant. . . but we train together because we share the same love for movement.
It also seems like your like demeaning people for different beliefs of what parkour means to them. I think traceurs should work together and help each other out. I still follow the parkour philosophy of non competition and other aspects but i just don't think parkour's guidelines needs to be enforced so heavily in the parkour/freerunning "Debate".
your confusing the issue....the issue isn't freerunnng is wrong...the issue is freerunning is not parkour..
I do both, i like to flip sometimes...a wear gloves and things i wouldn't if i was doingparkour...and there is the line. It is not to do with discriminaton or whatever you want to call it, when you do parkour...you are doing parkour..you stick to its rules...if you dont want to freerun. Saying parkour and freerunning are the same is like saying rugby and soccer are the same
I never said Freerunning is wrong, i don't even know what you mean by that. and as far as wearing gloves while doing Flips that's your own personal choice.
I'll give you an example of why I think parkour and freerunning are the same. lets say you see someone doing vaults over a rail, would you say he's doing parkour or freerunning? he might do a flip after that or he might not, is there really a difference?
gloves with flips yes...gloves with parkour no, if you do parkour no gloves, end of.
I'll give you an example of why I think parkour and freerunning are different. lets say you see someone kick a ball in a sport, would you say he's playing rugby or soccer? he might pick it up after that or he might not, is there really a difference? Yes...one is against the rules
A-B is not a single move, it is a set of moves. The nature of freerunning is to show off, there is a very clear difference
Shit, you must have gone crazy by now if definitions and abstractions hold this much importance to you. Two different words trying to communicate two (or one) concept(s). I just took a shit. I am parkour elite.
Mate look at your life...everything is definitons of abstract concepts...
Wots the difference between sleepingand napping? Snaking and Eating? Rap, Hip-Hop, Rock and Roll?
You must have gone crazy if you dont think two definitions describe two different things...how else is it suppose to work? This is thing 1...it has deffintion 1...this is thing 2, it has deffintion 2...
The act is what is important, not the abstraction or the definition. Sure, communication is mostly necessary and so we use abstractions - but the abstractions aren't important in themselves. Definitions are created by people and widely disputed the world over. They are not absolute. Definitions only have meaning to the person trying to understand the concept or act.
You see a difference between parkour/freerunning he doesn't. Or think you do. You aren't explaining that point well enough.
i own a pair of K-Swiss shoes and i have to say they are the least effective in actually helping me sprint, jump or play tennis even .. theyre just good for its looks and comfort IMO.
some people find that they cant make large jumps without the added momentum created from a flip, therefore, for them, it is the fast and most efficient movement.
The opening sequence starts in an office like David Belle's BBC Rush Hour commercial, I think that is the extent of the similarity between the two. It intends to pay tribute to one of the founders of Parkour. In BBC David Belle climbs up to a rooftop,In K-Swiss Skynative does a reverse flip to the ground.
If a flip allows you to move from one point to another as efficiently and quickly as possible, i.e. down steps, then why would it not be considered Parkour?
@karlidge Down steps? thats using more energy then you want to be taken, the only way i see a flip effecient is if your falling about 20ft up, cuz after you got done with your flip your able too see the ground closer therefore judge its height from your feet, so you can roll without messing up, cuz if you just jump off it would be alot scarier.
you could hecka tell.that was levi meeuwenberg..woohoo.damn he is so sexy♥

you can do flips in parkour to add flare, style and creativity to your PK, but if I was in this dudes K-Swiss shoes, i wouldnt risk it.
