@uglypinkmoose only game that disagrees with that is Dragon Age, it didn't have the best graphics but was damn well recognized for it's engrossing story and massive amount of choices
@uglypinkmoose ehh, oblivion, mass effect,dragon age, the witcher 2, and lost odyssuey were really good rpg's so this generation has some pretty good rpg's
@mina319 For one those are western RPG's which isn't what there is a lack of.....for another games like Mass Effect aren't amazing RPG experiences....Oblivion is but Mass Effect is just a good game with enough RPG elements to consider it an RPG....there isn't much keeping the game from being good just as a 3rd person shooter if the developers wished it... Also Lost Odyssey is how many years old?....maybe if games like that with decent ratings came out regularly but they don't
@uglypinkmoose I guess thats your opinion but for me mass effect has been the best rpg experience I have ever played, its cast characters are the best ever seen Because i care for every single character like there real people and they such interesting characteristics about them I once went back to a recent save that was 10 hours ago just so I can save 1 character, the choices that i had to make were legiltly hard to make and morally complicated like should you cure the krogan genophage,
@mina319 those mechanics don't make the game an RPG...It's widely accepted by old school RPG fans that Mass Effect isn't a classic RPG experience...it's a good game sure...but It's a 3rd person shooter with RPG elements... The character shit is awesome...however the game as a whole shares similarities with other genres far more than RPG's...classic JRPG's had tons of character development and story...and the RPG aspect WAS the game...Mass effect isn't an RPG by soul...It's a sci-fi shooter

Same with border lands or fallout 3 there both rpg's just not traditional rpg's
@mina319 that's exactly my point.... I think there is a huge lack of JRPG's these days.....there are plenty of western RPG's and all these shooter hybrids n stuff.....but the traditional JRPG has taken a step back to handhelds rather than home consoles
@poisenarrow5 I don't think loading times make a game repetitive... they may dull the experience but thats all... the only loading times I even remember are in between planets and those made sense
personality wise I did enjoy the characters though
I suppose having 8 main characters made it hard to create a bunch of good detailed back stories.... I have played like 3 other games with very similar stories and even seen some animes as well with pretty much the same stuff...the story is nothing to get happy about thats for sure but I still enjoyed myself
ya I think the PS2 needs to be put to rest though... no more good games come out on it... it has lived its life well... they should let it go... but PS2 is a power house for JRPG's ;D
this is a perfect game for me, i still play it ^_^

Great review.
I like the game but I have to give it 8.5/10
They could have done a little more with the characters stories.
And the main story near the end turns in to "the usual thing".
But I would still recommend it.
