Run the wire back as far as you want depending on wire type... Wires have resistance which would bring down to lower voltage which may effect the ignition.
for you youngsters trying to do this, its better to use a ULTRA FINE Copper wire.. the smaller the wire, the less power is needed to ignite it. with a 9v radio battery, can you make any small wire glow red hot. you can use white glue and mix with mach's to turn it into a putty that can be painted or rolled onto the wire. then you dont need to use a straw. NEVER make anything that explodes with Steel or metals. always use Cardboard and white glue.
@dalelerah I would not advise it. It depends on the fuel contained in the igniter. If you heat the fuel too much it may combust. This is simply based on the concept of activation energy. in some cases it is not even advisable to seal the other end with hot glue as the fuel may reach it's activation energy and combust.
@AxillaryGrenade I would not advise using 120v ac as the chance of electrocuting yourself fatally is much greater. Realize that all you are doing is creating enough heat to ignite a fuel this can be done with a smaller power source as long as resistance is taken into consideration.
@danielthesard Yeah..... So being the impatient person that I am, I set one up yesterday. I actually just finished experimenting for tonight. I saw your other video on how to make a separate channel box, and as it turns out I have one thats 120 volt, 5 channel, with safety, and over 30 years old, but it works like a charm! I made a directional explosive with gun powder I just happened to have lying arround,
@geoper2 It really isn't very dangerous at all. The voltage is too low to shock you, and unless you put a solid metal bar across the two terminals, you are completely safe.
I saw you used a motorcycle battery in your other vid. I don't have the type of money to just dedicate a car battery to this and I'm definitely not gonna hook this stuff to the battery in my car. What alternate power supply would you suggest If I was going to fill the charge with match heads. Would I get desirable results with a couple 9 volts?
PS: I tried reading the comments to see if it was answered. I didn't find anything that helped
Also, This would be handy for setting off multiple explosives at once, Just make sure that you connect them in parallel, and more explosives means more voltage to connect.
If in need of fuse wire just go to any hardware store that sells wire by the foot (choose how much you want in ft)Usually around 60 cent or so a foot for really cheap wire. 4 gauge usually has around1862 strands and 8gauge about 735 just take a knife or razor and carefully cut off the shielding = A bundle of fuses!!.Also never reuse any small battery in an electronic device that's been used like this. It can damage the device due to burnt electrode's within the battery.small idea.very few lettrs
@j58bear I'm not sure what your getting at. The straw is just the ignitor housing. The ignitor would be used to light something larger such as a fuse on a firework or some lose chemical that you wish to test the behaviour of.
Thanks for that wonderful comment. :D I relay hope that this reply brings more traffic to your pitiful channel that has only managed to bring in 560 total views despite having almost 30 videos.
A word of advice buddy if your going to try to insult me please look credible, be grammatically correct, and don't lie about your age on your channel page. It says something about your character.
Its just an electric match, nothing serious, why peoples think its for things that goes boom, for example you can just set a camp fire with it without beeing at the spot :D I find out a bit diferent way of this. Instead of sraw, i use a binder, smokeless gunpowder or styrofoam disolved in acetone, and mix it with match head powder, then it burns slower and nice, without pop.
@RussianVitamines that's not a bad Idea. Typically I use some sort of liquid accelerant along with the match in order to start a fire I have couple different match types too (match heads, gun powder, kno3 and sugar). I have used this system a couple of times to light campfires but it usually also involves some sort of fountain piro as well. I typically will use a fairly energetic fuse because it lights the fountain pyro with less delay. However the liquid is what actually lights the fire.
I mean this in the best of ways, but this is actually not a very good idea, it works fine, but it will HEAVILY damage the batteries, theres no load inside this circuit, which I suppose if you have a 12v battery laying around you don't care about sure this is great but otherwise, theres other videos that can show you how to make an igniter that will not destroy your batteries.
not bein a hater but doesnt the positive terminal of a ar battery produce hydrogen, so youre shorting out the battery which causes a spark when you connect both wires to the terminals, thats dangerous becuz then the battery can explode.
@reload195 You don't come off hater-ish at all. No car (lead acid) batteries do not produce hydrogen gas. You may be thinking of the electrolysis of water which produces hydrogen on the positive terminal. The battery is delivering far less power than it would to even a car. It would take a VERY long time to overheat the battery due to its overall size as well. Also keep in mind that the battery will only output the needed current and the match breaks shortly after it is lit. In short your safe.
hi I have a question whould this work if it was used in a cannon of some sort, e.g just the bare wire exposed to gas? (which used to fire the projectile)
ehhh dude, dont say explosive... why? Its a very powerful chemical material that converst, transforms w/e into fire and gas, pretty much a material that contains a huge amount of energy... THATS AN EXPLOSIVE, your showing how to make an igniter... because sayin EXPLOSIVE while showing ur face its like... HEY, IM A TERRORIST AND SHOWING YOU HOW TO BLOW UP YOUSELF! No dude, just a reminder! Before making stuff, learn ur stuff. Take care!...of ur fingers lol
@Vaiktorg I here you. In hindsight I should have used different wording. The intention was not to create anarchy or promote terrorist activities. The intention was to demonstrate a way to safely light fireworks, and test chemical mixtures used in pyrotechnics such as KNO3 and sugar mix (sometimes called r-candy) which is used in rocket motors and smoke pyros. The design is to SAVE fingers and potentially lives by increasing distance between the user and the test subject. Thanks for the comment.
@dukilaki The autoignition point of thermite is pretty high.
You'd have to light it with something like magnesium ribbon. Or, y'know, a blowtorch if you feel like having it blow up in your face. (which I do not recommend)
why not use a 12 volt battery charger . kipkay uses it for mini combustion engines or soldering stations and stuff using a charger will save time rather then taking the battery out of the car.

it has to be a 12 volt battery huh? I tried with 6 & 9 and it didn't work. I don't wanna hook it up to a car battery cuz I don't wanna kill myeslf? any advice?
@mrwhitewolf94 I am no expert on electrical matters by any means but I believe it has something to do with the amount of amperage the battery can deliver at any given point. On a standard dry cell this "cranking amperage" is low however a car battery can deliver a much greater amperage (enough to turn over a car) the formula is simple IV=W current times voltage = wattage. you could try some hobby car batteries they may work, I use a motorcycle battery because it is smaller than a car battery.
its still a pretty good design, i like it ive tried it. its not bad. oh btw you dont need a 12 volt. a nine volt will suffice. it just might take a little more time. btw good job on ur pyro vids.
Ok. Good job but here are a few ideas that could improve this design.
1. Replace the small strand of copper wire with the spring from the regular click pen.
It doesnt have to be a click pen spring just a small diameter spring. Just hook the end of the wires to the ends of the springs for terminals.
2. You dont necessarily need the straw with some fireworks. for instance bottle rockets, just cram the spring into the bottom of the rocket in that small hole(after removing the fuse of course).
you could just put some steel wool in the tube and about half a teaspoon full of powdered matchheads in too .
The following is a load of nonsense : Hinfgsjcucuysgffgxydyycgxgshhcuyx tdcktscgsagkcscgyassctsytcsaycscsauyicsauyfcfyascusicfgreghfirehv8eryvoewuf;kewhfuiewhufyw9euf8374[73f7da8v7d9icvd098v78tcdkjcv8ve7fe7fdsc9sCIYSXCTYSDTCI7WSY6DC78WEFD76WEDYSYCT87DSTC7DC7T7ECTE7C7C7TSCUSDTCSCTSDC7TSDC76E67678TSTSXSUODTSUYTYTTTTYTYtistyduysttYTTYTtyitatxztTTRZSTraiTURXSATCDTEITCPFEQP;BTKI6FSXUYDFLD
ok please answer my question! anyways what im wondering is if i have a potato launcher and i cut two holes next to each other and have the wires glued in, will the wires arch creating a spark igniting the aerosol? cause all i need is a spark, and in that case couldnt i use a smaller battery? please let me know!
Yes you could use an electrical spark to light aerosol, and you could do it with just one or two aa batteries. What you need to do is wire up some compositors to store electrical potential energy. This will allow you to achieve the necessary voltage to create an electrical arch. I would recommend that you do not use wires as your arching points you should use something like bolts or pins to achieve a more consistent result. I hope this helped. If you want shoot me a message.
@tapper45 A compositor is a person who arranges type for printing or keys text into a composing machine. However A capacitor is an electrical component which utilizes a gap to produce electrical potential energy. Early capacitor like the lidded jar used a simple non conducting material (the glass of a jar) to separate two metal surfaces. modern capacitors use a thin membrane to separate metal surfaces allowing more potential energy to be stored. Is that sufficient?
@bobbybob3680 cool video but but for a potato launcher just get a cheap bbq starter the knid with the red button that doesnt need batteries works great
@bobbybob3680 cool video but but for a potato launcher just get a cheap bbq starter the knid with the red button that doesnt need batteries works great
All i have to say is be careful and know what you are doing. And also: unless you stabilized it somehow DO NOT USE ACETONE PEROXIDE WITH THIS. The hot glue will set it off. The other day i poured some how wax on some just becuase and it went off. Just be careful and respect explosives as if they owned you becuase when you're handling them they do. Be safe and have fun!
@pyrogirl1985 2- 9V batteries wired in series do not have the current capacity to raise the temperature of a copper wire of this diameter to a point where ignition will occur. Canabalize a hair dryer and use a section of the thin nichrome element, or use a fine strand of steel wool. Any wire with a higher resistance than copper should work well..
@pyrogirl1985 instead of the copper, use steel whool the thin one, just take a pice and use it, you just need 12 volts for litting this one up, also if you take two matches, pass the whool in between the 2 matches, touching the lighting part, and pass corrent through it it will start, no doubt about it!
That is exactly what i've been looking for. Ignore all the jackasses that are calling you a nerd. lol i'm 15 and I do exactly the same stuff. I'm in the process of building a robot and learning computer programming...just because lol! nice video!

Sweet idea man, just saying, that at the bottom of the video, "pyrotechnic" is spelled wrong. But a good idea nonetheless.

you could just put some steel wool in the tube and about half a teaspoon full of powdered matchheads in too .

Can I use 7.2 battery charger 150 w?
Ubojica6661 1 year ago
ok please answer my question! anyways what im wondering is if i have a potato launcher and i cut two holes next to each other and have the wires glued in, will the wires arch creating a spark igniting the aerosol? cause all i need is a spark, and in that case couldnt i use a smaller battery? please let me know!
bobbybob3680 1 year ago
@bobbybob3680

@danielthesard
hey genius, what the fuck is a compositor?
tapper45 1 year ago
@tapper45 A compositor is a person who arranges type for printing or keys text into a composing machine. However A capacitor is an electrical component which utilizes a gap to produce electrical potential energy. Early capacitor like the lidded jar used a simple non conducting material (the glass of a jar) to separate two metal surfaces. modern capacitors use a thin membrane to separate metal surfaces allowing more potential energy to be stored. Is that sufficient?
Think before you talk dumbass

All i have to say is be careful and know what you are doing. And also: unless you stabilized it somehow DO NOT USE ACETONE PEROXIDE WITH THIS. The hot glue will set it off. The other day i poured some how wax on some just becuase and it went off. Just be careful and respect explosives as if they owned you becuase when you're handling them they do. Be safe and have fun!

pyrogirl1985 1 year ago
@pyrogirl1985 Hmmmm interesting. How thick is your wire and what power source are you using?
danielthesard 1 year ago
@danielthesard
I don't know what gauge it is but, it came off of a speaker wire. My power source is the same power source ChuKoNu1 uses, it's 18 volts
pyrogirl1985 1 year ago
@pyrogirl1985 2- 9V batteries wired in series do not have the current capacity to raise the temperature of a copper wire of this diameter to a point where ignition will occur. Canabalize a hair dryer and use a section of the thin nichrome element, or use a fine strand of steel wool. Any wire with a higher resistance than copper should work well..
ArtistBlade1972 1 year ago
@pyrogirl1985 instead of the copper, use steel whool the thin one, just take a pice and use it, you just need 12 volts for litting this one up, also if you take two matches, pass the whool in between the 2 matches, touching the lighting part, and pass corrent through it it will start, no doubt about it!
