It doesn't really seem like an intentional reference. I don't think it's entirely impossible for two shows to have similar lines in them without it being a reference. If Futurama were going to reference Firefly, it would be a bit more obvious than that.

I'm always waiting for the next episodes (which there aren't, god dammit). Captain Mal's line of,: "What? Hoping for a renewal or a good (original cast) sequel.
