  • 3:11 ...I spy with my little eye... a Bro.

  • Happy Birthday today Fonz!!!!!Brazil love you guy!

  • Not to dis the guy but he's a much better pocket player than a soloist. I know bar cats around here woulda ripped that up!

  • Most underrated bass player. He is a god.

  • what effect is he using?

  • just because the word solo is in the title doesn't mean it has to be the most difficult thing in the world. It is music with a great vibe to it.

  • Whats that bass? It looks like the modulus Flea is playing!

However good solo not the best, but dont judge him on this.

Hear his work with DMB, its incredible - this man is talented.. seriously!

  • This kid is soooo bad ass!

  • I don't see the attraction. This "bass solo" is really boring.

  • Getting Americans to cheer is as easy as playing the national anthem... oh, and he's good at bass playing.

  • Such a beautiful bass tone!

  • I'm sorry, I like Stefan, he's a super nice guy and a really solid bassist with an awesome feel for complex grooves, but this "solo" is some boring, wanky shit.

  • @pasowen agreed....

  • @pasowen

how about no, and he keeps doing the solos

  • He is really amazing! I like him!!! Briliant!!!

  • he is an awesome bass player, is not easy playing with beauford on your back xD

  • that is totaly true. . .beauford is my all time fav drummer and let me tell you. . he is a beast and to keep up with him takes some skill hahaha. . people shouldnt talk so much crap music is music no matter how you enjoy it. . .stefan is awesme!

  • This still is and always will be my favorite Bass Solo of all time. Like I said before Stefan is freaking amazing. I have of course opened my ears to everyone else's opinions from when I posted the first comment about not caring what anyone says or thinks. Its kinda funny how time changes you, as time passes you learn things. I just find that funny in a way. I mean music has changed me as a person and my perspective on life as a whole. I mean without music I would be a totally different person.

  • that was fucking brutal...no offence.

  • brutal as in good?

  • @tenordude14 probably wouldn't have said "no offence" if i thought this solo was good.....he's a great rhythm section player....just not a good solo...but i'm sure the chicks loved it.

  • probably should get your head out of your ass then, grow some ears, and listen to some real music... Jaco or Victor Wooten. Real music.

  • @tenordude14 my ears are fucking huge, therefore i cannot even fit my head into my ass....and trust me, i've tried.

but you are correct and i should listen to some real music.....wanna come over and listen to some Bananarama with me...? maybe you should check my profile and see what i upload to youtube.

maybe Stephan should learn the Star Spangled Banner before he attempts to play in front of 50,000 people.

that`s my opinion, and it`s better than yours. thanks

  • @mistersloppy 110,000 people were at this show, bro. DMB is the best-selling touring act in the united states, and have been for the past 10 years, every year.

  • @mistersloppy you have a whole lot of issues man....why can't you just stick your arse to your seat ..put your headphones on and enjoy this amazing musical retreat...

  • @grungypunksauvik we all have issues....that's just life, my friend...actually, i was just baiting the water to see what kind of goofy comments people would make if i said anything nasty about his playing....you make the game interesting..thank you.

but i still think it sucks as a solo....not saying he's a bad player.

  • i bet victor would disagree with you. people let him do what he does, and thats why he can play like that. you should respect all musicians that way too.

  • Ever overhead shot of New York City should have a bass solo.

  • i would kill for his fuckin modulus

  • U dont need to kill!! Guitar Center will let u have one for $2479.00 + tax !!! It is better than kill and to jail.... Im just kidding only a fuuny coment..

  • ANY bassist that can keep in the pocket with Carter and still be heard is AMAZING! Those two are the best rhythm section of any band, hands down!

  • Stefan is an amazing bass player. Whoever said his stuff was easy, I would love to see them try to play it. The only thing "easy" is how he makes it look! I agree that he is underrated. However, he certainly shouldn't be. But I guess when you have Carter Beauford on drums, everyone look underrated! No joke!! Later all!

  • @hoodnjh true that.... warehouse is amazing

  • I like the way Stefan plays. It isn't super crazy hard stuff, but its very emotional and beautiful. I could listen to an entire track of just him playing.

  • i think stefan is amazingly talented... but he really could learn how to dance, anyone else feel the same?

  • Nah I think he's good just chillin back and groovin

but If you think he needs to jump around the stage more you should check out: Anyone seen the bridge at Piedmont Park

  • I don't care what any of you guys say. Stefan is one of the best and he is very highly underrated. And it pisses me off because there are people out there that would say this sucks and that he isn't doing anything well those are the kind of people like my once so called friend David Foreman. Who is also a Bass Player and he thinks that he is better than everyone else. Well truth be told he actually sucks, one reason why he can't play the National Anthem on the bass.

  • lessard's not bad. i think he's great but hes not really in my top five. if you're going to talk about the national anthem im sure you've seen victor wooten play it. he's pretty badass on a bass. lessard's style's pretty neat tho

  • i think it's awesome that he threw it in there. I thought it was kind of a mixture between victor and hendrix, lol.... very cool. But what an awesome reaction by the crowd! It warms my heart so that much respect for the USA. I thin it's the greatest ever.

  • idk coming from someone who listens to vic and marcus i think this is one of my favorite bass solos.

  • also what concert is this i wanna know if they have a dvd out for it

  • this is from the DVD Central Park Concert

  • He is excellence

  • People on here have a lot to say about a bass player who is one of the most active and innovative of our generation, especially considering the kind of music this is. Let alone the shit they have to say about a solo that they themselves wouldn't be able to play themselves in a million years. You think BASS solos like this are a "thing of the past"? Ever hear of the electric guitar solo? Wanna complain about something that's over-exhausted, try complaining about that one. Dumbasses.

  • I totally agree, teulogy200. Stefan kicks ass. Some people don't know an excellent artist when they hear one.

  • great solo.refreshing change from the usual bass left out in a hailstorm sound.

My thanks to a thinking, feeling artist.

  • Stefan plays the DMB songs with excellence, but his is not a solo artist like Victor Wooten.

  • you're right, he's in a band and doesn't freelance

  • Whoa! Marginal at best..... keep practicing

  • how do you pronounce stefan's first name?

  • (stef-on) lol

  • I love this solo. Having been a fan since their very first album, this solo rocks!

  • Ouch. Are we sure this isn't part of the "shredding" series?

  • I enjoy the basslines he plays in the DMB songs but this solo sucks, why bother?

  • bass solo could not be worse...

  • :) i can hear a Modulus base from miles away, haha. what a great bass, and better player.

  • what is the song they sing right after??

  • its the same song. This is just the intro

  • oh ok. but what is the name of the song?

  • It's a Bob Dylan cover of All Along The Watchtower.

  • @fruitariangirl

    All Along the Watchtower

  • @fruitariangirl they sing "All along the Watchtower" right after...it was an epic night

  • @fruitariangirl All Along the Watchtower, there ya go.

  • @fruitariangirl seems gravedigger intro

  • Great sound, played with feel. Pocket's so much more important than dancing bear tricks anyways. IMHO.

  • this guy is a genius was a ever scince he was born. he droped out of hight school and college to play with DMB.

  • dont base this solo on how good he is. and chronozinc, stfu. hes good at soloing, just listen to Two Step on the live Central Park DMB album.

  • I think that his style and skills are perfect for Dave's music. He certainly isn't the best. But he doesn't suck. Flea is overrated, but he doesn't suck either.

  • hes the best

  • urrrgh! the way he digs in is completely unsubtle

  • dude being a bassist is harrd u have to concentrate all the time i am a bassist my self

  • Me too Tyler. I wasn't meaning to be a bitch, but it isn't great what he does in this vid. Carter B is such an ace drummer, seems an odd match.

  • i guess

  • Fonz admits he is not perfect. He says one of his biggest challenges, still, is working on technique. No one is perfect, but if he wasn't good, DMB wouldn't be quite as huge.

  • MMM stefan is great at what he does, but hes not THAT good. I loved it when Victor Wooten guested with these guys on so many occasions and Stefan plays rhythm bass, wooten solo's into the pocket. It's awesome.

  • he is making the FB-4 look bad...

  • stfu u dumbass u wouldnt no talent if it looked u in the face dipshit!!!!!!fuck off

  • yeah, "nothing special," he's only playing in arguably one of the better bands around today

  • Yup, nothing special

  • nothing special...

  • Stefan's a good bassist, but there was nothing impressive about this solo at ALL. He's great as a rhythm section player, and should stay that way.

  • lol he randomly breaks into the star spangled banner

  • What kind of effects pedal is he using? I gotta know!

  • it MIGHT be a tape echo but im not 100% sure

  • thanks dude.

  • sounds like a chorus pedal to me

  • Stefan is MORE technical than flea, its a fact. Flea is good at bass and has better basslines tho.

  • I want a fleabass sooooo bad. Too bad my piggy bank only has 76 cents.

  • It's a Modulus Flea bass

  • that sounds amazing, especially with the mute on, even better!

  • two of my favorite bassists play the modulus flea4 and that would obviously be lessard and flea dam i love that snap and growl it has to it

  • He plays a Modulus Quantum 4 and 5 plus his warwicks. Look at the pickups, idiot.

Stefan is far more technical than flea. Flea can play slap. Big fucking deal.

  • This needs some clearing. It does not only look like a fleabass, it also sounds like one :p. The pickup sounds like a lane poor pickup to me, I might be wrong though. I think Flea knows more technical things than most people think, he is being overestimated and underestimated at the same time. Flea is my favorite bass player, but I acknowledge that he is not the best.

  • I lked it until 2:15 haha

  • Cats good very old school, loved the preformance! reminded me of the Seventies jam session we had has youths, trying to play like Santanna, n Hendricks, Sabbath etc, my boy Charlies from Chicago, 29th st. projects you know! had a cool three finger style and could play, jus had a big ego, and built like an gorilla most Cats did'nt like Him, lol butwe were cool hope He still plays.

  • Hey Jackass, Lassard has been playing Modulus while Flea was playing Musicman, Wal, and Fenders. They're different cats all together, although I must say I admire Lessard more.

  • But Flea does use Modulus. HE HAS A SIGNATURE BASS MADE BY THEM!

  • He also uses a variety of other basses like 60s Jazzes, coupla MusicMans (which IMO he sounded best with) and a couple of custom dealies.

  • Yup, and on B.S.S.M., He used a Wal. On O.H.M., he used an Alembic :)

P.S. The debut album had some tracks recorded with a p-bass ;D

  • stefan is such a great bassist

  • does anybody know what song they are about to go into after the solo?

  • All Along the Watchtower

  • yeah thanks man, i just bought The Central Park Concert and it was on there.

  • Not bad but most DMB fans are super stoned so it would seem better. He's better than me but not as "entertaining" as Flea.

  • nah im sorry im gonna have to say flea could own stefan lessard anyday, despite the fact im a huge dave matthews fan.

  • Listen to some fusion players buddy, your entire "flea" appeal will fly out the window.

  • well thats all well and good, but i wasnt talking about fusion "buddy". i was talking about stefan lessard as opposed to flea in terms of pet chimps comment. and frankly fusion doesnt appeal to me, despite the massive technical skill.

  • hey fucktard, anybody can pound out notes on a bass, im really fucking good at it, but stefan has something flea doesnt: musical ability

  • yeah, hurray for elitism dickride. You jazz/fusion guys think subtlety trumps. flea has no musical ability? Im not knocking on lessard, DMB has a lot more going on in terms of instrumenation, so dudes like lessard and wooten can tool around more with that stuff.

  • Flea is good and so is Stefan Lessard. One isn't better than the other, they both have their unique styles.

  • True... Flea plays a more 'funk'bass - with all the pops etc. 'Course they both have amazing ability, you can't say that one doesn't have the technical or musical ability of the other. But I'd have to say that Flea can play in a way that is so much fun to listen to and dance to (whatever), Lessard can just get his bass to sound so beautiful...

  • STEFAN IS AMAZING

  • i don't see y u ppl are mad that this solo isn't that good. Where in the title does it say "THE MOST AMAZING SOLO EVER" I only posted this on youtube because there isn't much footage of Stephan playing.

  • It does say "awesome bass solo" in the description, but yeah...

There should definitely be more footage of Stefan out there.

  • yawn

  • stephan's solo is star spangled banner : AMERICA's national anthem for all you guys who are not familiar of it...of course, its his own rendition..you can't compare every bassist guys...thats why they get praises because of their style..they have their own creativity and originality..though it is each is inspired by womeone, they still own their sound once it's their hands holding up that bass..so give them respect if you can't credit them.. respect to all yah...

  • Stefan is good but Victor Wooten is the best bassist alive!!!!!!

  • hah flea isnt tha good

    way over rated

vic and les pretty much own him

  • WOW.

  • nice bit over gravedigger at the end.

    Flea isn't that good

  • the song wasnt gravedigger it was all along the watchtower. a tune written by bob dylan and a DMB live staple.

  • flea isnt that good? yeah ok

  • Nice modulus he's bashing there lol, wish i could get me one of those. And to zznavidzz, for gods sake please get over flea, this is different music and a completely different approach to bass playing, people have to stop comparing everyone to flea and John Myung, everybody has a diferent style and this is his so accept it :D

  • what is the name of the song they start to play at the end of this video?

  • All Along the Watchtower

  • by jimi hendrix? if so it sounds different

  • It's not by Jimi Hendrix. Bob Dylan made the song and Jimi Hendrix made his own version, as did DMB.

  • ohh i see thats neat :)

  • Stefan really doesn't get enough credit in the band. He is really an amazing musician.

  • naw, its actually the intro into All Along the Watchtower. and garynull, i think stefan def knows his way around the bass, hes been playing it for well over 17 years and thousands of big time concerts

  • i believe that this is into What You are.. which is in a really weird key. so its not the tone.... the kid joined the band at 16. playing with all 30 year old musicians.... amazing,

  • flea isn't all that good.

  • You are never going to be 'Flea'!!! lol

  • flea sucks by the way... he passed him by 18 years old

  • You're off your rocker son. Flea is ridiculous.

  • That sucked. Players today don't learn how to play. Forget soloing, learn your fucking instrument first.

  • you are a dipshit.

steffan is an awsome bass player... listen to the live Dmb songs

    hes amazing

  • You would not know good tone if it spanked you Thangfish.

  • I want the Lane Poors pups!! :'( :'(

  • well, i uploaded this cuz i know its hard to find, stephan doesnt do that many bass solo's as it is. I thought I would atleast honor him by showing people who he is.

  • Im a Bass Player myself, and I love DMB and Stefan very much....but Bass solo's like this are becoming a thing of the past...this unfortunately is not great at all...educate yourself on bass and the masters and come back watch this... Granted he has the right to perform in any way he wants, and there was some nice stuff in there too.

  • >> solo's like this are becoming a thing of the past...

thank god. There are about only 3 bass players on the planet that play exciting solos on the bass. The rest of them should'nt even attempt.

  • would they by any chance be clarke, miller and wooten?

    or SMV for short.

  • Who are your three?

  • Who are those? in your opinion

  • you can't play like stephen

  • you suck large dick thankgfish

  • He might be a good bassist... but that solo sucked large!

    His tone was terrible too!

  • stefan rules!
