LooseAlliance - You are right , they put a huge effort into producing a 3-minute film for us each day ! with very very little in return. Man , this helps people understand and appriciate the dogs , who were viewed with disgust until recent times !! I'm a big fan of wildcast's work too !! and prob a bit defensive when i hear critisizm ! I see your from Oz , u lucky bugger :) I stayed there for 18 months , and camped in the bush in NT for 4 months , best time ever ! love the dingoes mate :)
Yeh in hindsight I was a bit snappy with that other guy,but like you said theres very little in return from putting up these clips on here, some of them only get 200hits. its obvious (to me anyway hehe) that these guys put a hell of a lot of work into their docos.
THe other guy don't want put hell of others works if not i put bad star and this i don't make(how u can look). U don't respect others opinions and u r not capable to build an interesting discussion about different point of view.that's all. So speak only with persons that give u reason.
U r nobody to decide who can have credential. nobody. Learn to have a good discussion like i make with honestron even if we had different point of view.
or the planet earth series where they film wild dogs from a helicopter?im sure you have though. (amazing stuff and for the doubters it has dogs chasing full grown impala from the air and theirs no humans hiding behind bushs ).
Also , yes- wild dogs that have dispersed or become seperated or isolated have been known to survive alone , and hunt impala single handed !
Of course , the ideal situation is to hunt in a pack , with the maximum profitibility being in pack of 10 - 15 dogs. calculated whilst weighing up the prey encounters , kills, and food distribution .
So Simabho , why are you interested in the dogs ?...are you African or a big animal lover ,pet dogs ? me- I am fascinated by animal behaviour ! love it :)
Kim has also taken a very long time to sit back and respect the comfort zone of the dogs, and only recently is he able to stay in close proximity to the dogs ,.... (I think).
The pups are not stressed out by the jeep , as he did a video around 6 months ago , where the dogs ran up to the jeep when they found him. The 2 adults still "gruff" bark at him from time to time ! I often wonder why the lights they use at night dont bother the animals so much ??? but again it is impossible to avoid !
Simabho , I can imagine some film makers might cut corners whilst trying to meet deadlines for film production dates etc, but I dont believe Kim Wolhuter is one such person.
He often talked about the trials and tribulations of capturing events on camera !
What we get to see on youtube, is really just the spare film material which WILL NOT be used in his upcoming films !
The use of a jeep is un-avoidable I guess , with the dogs roaming 20 or 30 miles a day
Simabho , Kim wolhuter is a national geographic film maker ! he currently "lives" amongst the wild dogs with his camera. The dogs are making 2 kills a day and he dosent need to set-up an artificial kill !!! lol.
Take a look at the history of the pack and u will see that he has followed them since birth, recording many many kills by the dogs !
Do a little research before you discredit somebody like that ,.... verbal comments vanish quickly , but the written word lasts forever.
ok i'll make a research. but please u must study a bit of zoology to understand why born doubt in my mind. U never relize that the biggest part of doc are making putting prey died? not everything that u look is true. - general when animals hunt try to take cubs or feeble subject not a big male like this! wake up. not only the name (national geo..) must suppose that everything show to us is true. thank u
Sometimes it is good to be suspicious, and no I dont believe everything i read !!
The impala are in "rutting" season at the moment , which is a time that u see the big male adults putting all their energy into sparring or fighting each other !
The wild dogs often take advantage of the tired males at this time , and in this caseit would seem that they didnt have to chase the male very far before the catch was made !
Hallo honestron, if i have doubt is because in a lot of doc like i say u before are "build" not only with hunt but with environment too. even if are in rutting season wild dog don't risk to loose too much energy with a big male. Is very rare. And onestly if u observe in a lot of docs difficultly u can look the entire hunt scene, a lot of are make in south africa and this can wxplin more - in the end i don't want discredit nobody, like u maybe observe i don't give a bad star to this video.
I understand your point , and it is true that the wild dog kill is very difficult to capture for a filmaker !
But , I dont believe a pack of 11 dogs would have any trouble taking on an adult male impala.
The hunting is a learned skill for the wild dogs , and various packs in various places have different preferences for their prey selection. This pack concentrate on impala , which appears to be rampant in this reserve.
The african wild dog is capable of taking impala single-handed
Wild dogs diet also includes larger prey , wildebeest , eland , and zebra too !
The dogs will scatter chase a herd of impala , with different dogs chasing different individuals ... all the time keeping a close eye on each other's progress ! they will then select , and concentrate on which individual to pursue when they see one dog with a very good chance.
so the selection of a male adult impala is almost random amongst the herd.
Hi honestron, our discussion is going larger ;) does it mean this..: I know wild dog could hunt male of different species ( rare - but not alone!!!! every time in group) - My discussion born for this doc, i want to say that a lot of video are build like film and for me this was an example. That's all. And onestly I don't like this method. Like you know a lot of documentarist disturb, stress the animals.
not al documentarist are like i say u. bat is like this. Sorry but image an unknow iron animal that produce sound like lion, smell bad and is the fastes of all the savava (i speak about jeep), u think don't stress the animals? - I speak like this but i love the documentary, but with the time i discover that the money produce risults different from a good target.
Hallo man, i suppose that the pray that the wild dogs are eating is not killed from them, but fom mans, and later put there to permit to film this. I hope my opinion is wrong if not is not nice but false reportage.-Are differents way to understand why i have this opinion.
loosealliance, your comment make me think u don't have zoology bases. u lookt he dog kill him! U never look when animals hunt take a big male like this one!!!! really u believe in everything u look? - please
On the contrary , I doubt very much doubt that you have any "zoology bases". what your saying makes no sense....'u lookt he dog kill him!', if i had any idea what that was supposed to mean id try and refute it.
Like honeston said do a little research before spouting your mouth off and trying to discredit someone.
I thought can have a serious discusion but I look you are more interesting to say me "not" or simply to " spouting your mouth ..ecc.." so i understand that is more good don't continue with u the discussion that could be interesting.
If youd wanted to have a serious discussion you wouldnt have started out like that. These guys put up for this stuf forFree and it is really quite excellant and along you come and say that.
I guess i might have over reacted a little but you really should be more careful and realise how it comes across.
Some docs create big disturb to animals, other are build (like hunt scene..), and other docs are TRUE and i think that this man make good video but some like this wasn't good. Must be critic when u look something not stay with lips and eyes open because the person is a NAME OF DOCS. Not everything u look is gold.
These dogs have the most beautiful coat in the animal kingdom.
