A word of caution: NEVER crumble very old mantles that have been burned to ash. Prior to 1991 Coleman and every other maker of mantles were made of a radioactive material, the dust if inhaled or ingested can be harmful for life. Since about 1991 Coleman has switched to a safer material, but some Asian imports still are made of the older radaioactive materials. Just a heads up!

Thanks, I should have said artificial silk or rayon or ramie. I'm old school we have always called them silk mantles.

You can purchase the mantles at any sporting goods store or most places that sell camping gear.
