  • The Flyers' all-time points percentage of .578 (as of the end of the 2010–11 season) is the second best in the NHL, behind only the Montreal Canadiens' .590 points percentage. Additionally, the Flyers have the most semifinal/conference final appearances out of all expansion teams (16, winning 8) and they are tied with the St. Louis Blues for most playoff appearances out of all expansion teams (35 out of 43 seasons).

  • fuck i hate that schultz

  • anyone ever notice how much moose dupont looks like hermann göring?

  • shultz should be arrested for impersonating a fighter...took a few swings after getting tuned...he owes a big thanks to dupont and kelly for saving him. they should have been thrown out for jumping in...

  • I love how people think that Schultz was such a good fighter. Name one real tough guy he beat? No one! He lost to Clark Gillies, Terry O'Reilley and Larry Robinson. Everyone else he beat like Dale Rolfe were either non fighters or someone like Magnesson who was smaller than him. He was an average fighter and a lousy hockey player who left a black mark on the game.

  • @jecroner I love it when I see someone typed my very thoughts!

I think Schultz was a perfect example of Hockey's Golden Era coming to end. You know when players like Gordie Howe, Bobby Hull and Maurice Richard were their OWN bodyguards. All #9s BTW a number the league still lets players where.

Whereas #99 is league-wide retired but Gretzky needed a Semenko or McSorley to battle for him.

As for "Hammer" Schultz: I think Dr. D David Schultz would've been a better hockey player.

  • destroying? i dont like dave, but he was tough

  • Broad Street Bullies. The best team ever. Flyers are the best. Anyone else is a scumbag faggot.

  • i'd love to kill that dupont!!!..dupont to the rescue!1..whenever his girlfreind was getting beat,,he would jump in,that scumbag!

  • @uwique That was decades ago. Are you taking anger management interventions? If not at least get an Rx for psychotrophic medications.

  • @iddottaw yeah..i'm on meds right now,,but i'm gonna need some help with my prescriptions,,can u help me?

  • i'd love to kill that dupont!!!

  • call Schultz wat u will, a cheap shotter, a scumbag, but dont call him a pussy cus he definitely wasnt one, the guy was onely 6'1" yet he fought all the biggest and best fighters in his time and had a huge impact on the increase physical nature and fighting in the 70s and on, u might hate but the guy had a big impact on making the NHL more badass for years, as for the fight, Gillies the clear winner, would hav liked to see the fight go longer and see if schultz could hav come back but W Gillies

  • One goon fighting another goon. No winner here.

  • say Schultz sucked all you want i dont see any of your names in the history books

  • Dave Schultz will be forever a PUNK ASS BITCH! I was there when Clark Gillies WHUPPED HIS AZZ. TALKING ABOUT JUSTICE BEING SERVED. Even us RANGERS FANS supported the ISLANDERS when that fight went down back in 1975.

  • Schultz looked pretty content to hide behind the referees when a REAL tough guy wanted a piece of him...

  • @WatchVenusSpa not really, he fought the biggest and best guys frequently, he would just sneak in extra shots when the refs were involved, he was a dirty player but so were a lot of guys back then, theres no way around it, he was very tough and a good fighter, not great, a good fighter but a great enforcer

  • Dave Schults Always SUCKED!

  • the Flyers start fights and then when they're losing they jump in. What Dupont did to Gillies there i've seen the Flyers do many times. one more reason they were always hated.

  • billy Smith vs Shultz would be a cool fight

  • Ah brings back memories, black and white video recorded on a VCR with bad tracking control.

Just kidding, thanks for the upload, this is great hockey history.

Gillies was a great player who could still beat some of the toughest fighters in the NHL

  • gillies was the best nhl fighter ever hands down he kicked the shit outta schultz he also put up great goal totals in his career an all around great hockey player too bad the new nhl doesnt hve hese type of players anymore

  • @LJSILK93 couldnt agree more, players like him and terry o'reilly, guys that were tough as nails and could really throw em but were also real solid player and put good numbers, its ashame, i still love the NHL but its not wat it used to be, all these ticky tak calls are so annoying, if a stick is in a mid section for a second thats a penalty, thats garbage, it used to be u had to pull them down for a penalty, NHL needs to go back to a more ruggid style, not quite like the 70s but like the 90s

  • damn broadstreetpussies, when schultz getting beating they jump in, i thoutght, that it was group of tough guys and not cowards ,nice to see

  • @volyn they were tough, they just did that pretty frequently, u can call it them being pussies but the NHL back then was more ruggid and let a lot go, when scrums broke out there pretty much werent any rules so the flyers tended to jump to stop the fight when a teammate was not doing well, at least they would jump in and team up on the other guy, they would just break up the fight, i really dont see why so many people make sucha big deal about that

  • THIS is nice.

Remembering who Dave Schultz really was.

A back-jumper, who depended on teammates, especially Dupont, when his clock was being cleaned.

    Stanley Cups? Sure.

    Hockey? Not even close.

  • Dave Shultz was overrated. Dan Maloney proved that before Gilles did.

  • Bobby clarke was the biggest pussy ever to play game,if i see him now i still crack his fuckin head open dont care how old he is.

  • @dacritter

Bullshit. Your Dad was the biggest pussy ever. Oh wait, my bad...He never played hockey. He was too busy out in the parking lot with a stiff cock in his mouth. You slack-jawed cunt.

  • @67goldtops did i offend you and your boyfriend bobby cunty iam sorry, when your sucking his dick and jigging his balls give your mom i turn thats if the strech marks aroung her mouth as healed you slack jawed cunt

  • @dacritter

LOL. Nice writing skills! Man, you gotta love that public school education, huh loser! Hey, be sure not to use too much starch on my shirts, ok fatboy?

  • @67goldtops oh i forgot got to impress a fuckin moron calling people slack jaw cunt and fatboy, like the message i send you kill yourself its easier.

  • @dacritter

Man, it's amazing that some guys manage to get through life as functional illiterates, huh? Hey, don't worry. Perhaps there's still a chance that you'll be a success in life. All you need to do is find someone who will pay you for your talents. I mean there's got to be someone out there who will give you a salary for drinking warm Bud & chronic masturbating. Oh & don't feel too badly about your dead, slut mother's ass cancer! Hey, see ya, fatboy!

  • JesusChrist , Dupont and Kelly jumping in again.........thank God the nhl changed these rules.

back then the flyers played like a street gang if one of them loses everyone jumped in.

Gillies beat his ass so bad in this video.

  • @NamIsIll Exactly. The Flyers were famous for jumping in when one of their's was getting his ass kicked. The rules were changed because of stuff like that.

  • xBlackxEYEx....what does current day hockey have to do with a 1975 fight where a bully got his clock cleaned? by the way when the flyers win 4 cups in a row like the islanders did then you can write me back....till then go pound sand...

  • @alfitz64 when the islanders make it to the playoffs then you can talk shit about the flyers till then go suck your dads tits

  • @SuperPhillies08 Dude, Islanders have 2x more cup wins than the Flyers, and have won more recently. Playoffs dont mean shit. I am not an Islanders fan, but you fail.

  • I well remember the Flyers from the seventies, and all the ridiculous fighting they did. One thing that was a constant, and I mean you could bet the farm on it, was whenever one of their guys was losing a fight, no matter who, a third guy from the Flyers would ALWAYS jump in so his "boy" didn't get his ass kicked, at least not too bad. You could always bet on it, and it spoke volumes for the character of those on the team.

  • You can't really blame Schultz for this, as that prick Dupont, as he usually did, ruined any chance Dave might have had to come back in this fight. Did Dupont not realize he only made Dave look worse by jumping in?

  • Let's go islanders

  • @MrCupcakes76 Lets Go Islanders!

  • this was the end of the bullies as we know it and the beginning of the rise of the islanders that would turn into 4 straight cups.....flyers suck

  • @alfitz64 Shame the Islanders are now the worst team in the Eastern Confernce and the second worst in the the enitre league now. Where as the the Flyers are Top in the Eastern and second in the league.

  • Did I see Schultz punch the ref at 6 second mark?

  • Broad St Bullies says it all.Bullies have no guts, but yet it worked for Philly for a long time.Took the other teams years to clue in to the solution to the problem, lmao.GO HABS GO

  • Schultz turtled here much the same as he did when Larry Robinson cleaned his clock = proof that he wilted when facing bigger guys. Defines cowardice.

  • Once again Shultzy's sissy "stand by your man" bodyguard, Moose Dupont is right there as a third man in once Shultz starts getting his ass kicked! LOL. What a bunch of pantywaists the flyers of old were!......."Jagar"

  • Shultz is getting his ass handed to him so the rest of the Broad Street Pussies have to jump in like they always did back in the 70s.

  • they werent the broad st bullies, they were cowards!

  • Sometimes you're the hammer, sometimes you're the nail.

  • Durbano was one of the best fighters in the NHL? When????

Durbano was tough and crazy, but NEVER ranked as one of the BEST fighters in any league. Not even in the top 10. Ever.

Actually Schultz battled some of the best of that era and did very well for himself. Got his clock cleaned a few times, but also had some impressive victories over some rugged guys. Not to mention drawing two of the toughest of the time in Jonathon and Behn Wilson. Not bad for a 'cheap shot faggot'.

  • The best fighters in the NHL in those days were Clark Gillies, Terry O'Reilly, Stan Jonathan and Steve Durbano. The Flyers were a bunch of spineless pussies who jumped everyone from behind. Booby Clarke was a spineless little vaginaboy, and Dave Schultz was a cheap shot faggot, who couldn't fight his way out of a wet paper bag.

  • @NewYorkRangersIn08 spineless spineless spineless spineless spineless spineless spineless spineless spineless spineless spineless spineless spineless spineless spineless spineless spineless spineless spineless spineless spineless

  • @NewYorkRangersIn08 clarke had diabetes dickhead and he could wreck your ass any day.

  • @MrPloopy who cares if he has diabetes or not? He chose to play hockey....nobody forced him. If you're old enough to remember, Clarke hid behind evvvveryone on the Flyers......while slashing & spearing his way through the league. A weasel>

As for Steve Durbano< my older cousin played for the Oshawa Generals wayyy back in the day with Terry O`Reilly, Rick Middelton, Gilles Gratton etc. The toughest guys in the old OHA at the time were Terry, Durbano & Dave Hutchison from what I remember.

  • This was the end of the Hammer!

  • i can understand sticking up for your team mates but to see Philly jump in like that and allow Schulze to land a couple shots is "cheap"

  • flyers=cowardly bitches!

  • @uiwqe I don't Think So!!!!

  • @bluemoon95 how bout u just pay my viagra,,i'll cover the other 10 meds that i taske,,deal?

  • They didn't have high-definition digital 3-D back then?

  • DONT WORRY SHULTZ,,,DUPONT TO THE RESCUE!

  • Islanders: The best there ever was

  • Schultz was a tin can. Got his ass beat by every real tough guy he ever fought.

  • Gillies was good figther, sometimes very good one.

    Solidsized man.

Gillies pounded DECISIVELY Schultz in this short tussle.

  • The Islanders could skate and fight ...greatest team ever...period!

  • I saw this fight live back then too. This I believe was one of the first times I ever saw Schultz actually take on a reputable fighter-and get pummeled for his actions! Ha Ha!!

  • LOL they had to jump in to save their tough guy.

  • @Cooliepops I'm The Hammer. Gotta fight someone cuz I'm The Hammer. Let's see...little guy, tried him. Goalie, tried him. Guy with back turned, tried him. Guy laying on ice, tried him. Hey, a rookie! C'mon, rookie, fight The Hammer! Hey, owowowowowsomebody hold him down so The Hammer can fight fair, okay? LOL

  • Shultz NEVER was the same again and NEVER touched another Islander when Gillies was around.

WE had and HAVE the biggest, baddest animal in the NHL jungle in hockey history. No one was a better fighter in the history of the NHL than Gillies and also possessed EXCELLENT hockey skill.

  • another loss for the overrated scumbag schultz

  • Excerpt from "Full Specturm (The History of the Philadelphia Flyers)" by Jay Greenberg:

As usual, Schultz attempted to leave a bareknuckled calling card for the next meeting [Game 5] but was thrashed by Islander rookie Clark Gillies.

  • shultz was afraid of fotiu,,,smart man!LOL

  • Wow, look at those Flyers jumping in when Gillies was laying the beatdown!

  • people here are all talking shit on flyers but im from philly and way i see it is its a good team... a teams like your family and shit if my bro was in a fight i'd jump in for him winning or not. nice to see your true colors everyone =)

  • no one was afraid of schultz after gillies owned the fuck out of him

  • @WolfmotherFan66

He was pounded quite a few times when it was one on one with a tough guy He rarely won. Gillies, L Robinson, T O'Reilly, W Cashman, Tiger Williams and a few more. You know yourself they jumped people and also went after guys who did'nt fight.

  • @joeyd1957

...Yeah. Kinda puts emphasis into the name "Bullies".

  • when i was a kid, back in the 70's i was told the flyers were tough, what a myth. luckily there wasn't too much national coverage of hockey back then or everyone would've seen what a buch of back-jumpers they really were. as we are seeing now on youtube. did the hammer ever win a fight where he didn't attack from behind? do he ever fight one-on-one, without his buddies jumping in as he started getting pounded once again?

  • I'm pretty sure this was the end of game 6 of the semi-finals that year.

  • Well yea Gillies was the best fighter ever. Don't hate on the flyers ok everyone knows they beat the shit out of EVERY team they played including any team that any of you kids support. Don't call them goons cuz they managed to win two fucking stanley cups ina row so don't talk shit dickheads

  • Typical Flyers. As soon as one of the goons started getting beat, a third man would jump in to "end" the one on one fight. Totally typical Flyers hockey in the seventies.

  • See the following punches landed by Shultz? Don't fuck with Philly.

  • Shultz looked pretty good once the third man came in, LOL

  • I saw this live... this doesn't do it justice but whatever. Gillies cleaned his clock. I is probably the best hockey fight ever given the context. The Flyers were bullies and Clark beat the crap out of Dave's head. - Kenneth

  • @kniebling I'm sure this doesn't do it justice, but it was the best I could do. This is actually two fights. The first was a scuffle that didn't amount to much. The later fight, with less than a minute remaining, is one of hockey's legendary moments.

  • @kniebling you were there?

  • @kniebling before the flyers became the bullies, they were the punching bag of the nhl. payback is a bitch, isnt it?

  • @kniebling before the flyers became the bullies, they were the punching bag of the nhl. payback is a bitch, isnt it?

  • CG wuda won

  • Armstrong was a great talent, hockey linesman and first man on the moon

  • I can't stand watching hockey today. The game I love, has been ruined & pussified so bad it's unwatchable today.

  • I love how pissy people get over Schultz and the flyers. He fought everybody, didn't matter WHO you were how big you were he'd get in there and kick your ass. And it STILL drives people nuts LOL

  • I agree -- he did challenge and fight everybody. But here he was on his way down before Dupont (as he always did) rescued him. Schultz even (I believe) confirmed this in his book.

  • Funning thing was Schultz was actually a pretty good winger. When he was't gooning it up he could score them goals. He had big goals in there Stanley cup run.

  • what a pleasure seeing schultz get his ass kiced

  • schutz was a dirty rat player and boobie clark who cant fight was dirty with that stick

  • LOL @ eyelikemetal. Nice of you to put Gillies stats up against Schultz. How about all the people Schultz picked on who he towered over??? Yeah........"years" of choking. Also years of going to the Stanley Cup finals 5 years straight. Winning 4 in a row. Only team from the U.S. EVER to do it!!!!

  • flyers jumping in again,,pussy asses!

  • @uiwqe pussy asses huh? sounds like a real team.. cant wait to see you get your ass beat and cry for help and have to bite the bullet.

  • @talentedfate yuoll never see me get my ass beat!LOL..flyers always jumping in...the proof is right in front of u.

  • Flyers pussies jump in to save that clowns face. FUCKING LOSERS FLYERS. CANADIENS TOOK CARE OF YOU IN 1976 SWEEP.

  • It only took three years for another nhl team to take the Flyers... great job... hahaha.

  • and the FLyers are still waiting for another Cup 35 years later !!! LOL

  • @ramsback28 ...fucking right!!!...first of FOUR...go HABS

  • Gillies was NEVER cheap. You could usually count the # of fights he had in any season on 1 hand.

  • The fight where the heavyweight champion belt changed hands begins at about 1:05.

  • Schultz was pummeled.

  • @rjst09 Pussies was and always will be...later Potty head cunt Wilson continued the trend.

  • Shultz and gets saved by his Philadelphia Fairy teammate bitch Andre Faggot Frog Fairy Dupont.

Shultz without his teammates protection would have been murdered by Gillies.

The stretcher and Ambulance was ready for Shultz.

  • Whats with the so called tough flyers?? Schultz gets bailed out but his team-mates when receiving beat downs from Robinson and here with Gillies.

    What a bunch of cowards.

  • Schultz 6ft 1 185 lbs. Gilles 6ft 3 210lbs. After many years of choking the Islanders finally won the cup. (not this year 1975) They were on the verge of breaking up the core of that underachieving team. Did the Islander fans remember to send Christmas cards to Leon Stickel this year?

  • You're right when you point out that Sutter's goal in the first period of Game 6 in 1980 was offsides, but they withstood the Flyers comeback which tied the game and forced OT, and they won Games 3 and 4 5-2 and 6-2. They did what Philly could not do, that is win a game on the road, Game 1 in OT. The Islanders only choked twice (you said many. to me 2 is not many), in 78 and 79. In 75,76 and 77 the Flyers and Canadiens, the teams that eliminated them respectively, were definitely better teams

  • The bully got slapped and in his own house.

I heard he was visibly nearly shook to tears in the locker room because he lost to some rookie.

  • WOW thats pathetic Schultz' teammates had to jump in to rescue him. Gillies is an effin legend.

  • @NYJYIK I agree, and not the only time this happened. Watch Schultz vs. O'Reilly. Schultz gets wrecked and a teammate jumps in.

  • yep....once again Shultz being saved by his little bitch Dupont

  • I couldn't tell you how pleased I was when this happened. I was tired of seeing Schultz and Gary Howatt go at it. Although Howatt is tough as nails, he is smaller than my grandmother. Finally Schultz took on the real competition. On top of all the fighting, which I don't mind so much, the Flyers were just downright dirty in their tactics. Hated them worse than you could imagine

  • @tomm120 I know what you mean about the Flyers tactics - but after they whipped the Russians I became a fan!

  • HAHA "Gillies destroys Schultz". This was the beginning of the end of the bullies!!

  • Good think Dupont was there to save Schultz's ass vs Gillies AND vs Robinson

  • Schultz was a punk!...Yeah, you Flyers fans heard me correctly. He made a name for himself by beating up on players who couldn't punch their way out of a paper bag.

Put that in yer crackpipe and smoke it.

  • Absolutely right! Schultz couldn't fight his way out of a pissed soaked bag on Sunday!

  • Back at ya my Family..... I can tell that you know the history of N.H.L. enforcers. I used to see Schultz make a name for himself by beating up on people like Borje Salming, and others who weren't into fighting.

I'd also like to know who was the punk who gave me a "thumbs down". Lol Lol.

  • Gilles was a tough one Schultz like to Hold your right Hook and Knock you in the head then Douchepont and Kelly would double team ya Fucking Cowards Gillies could take on all of them with one arm

  • Schultz is hit cleanly & can't take it so he cheapshots Gillies. So he gets a brainfull of stone knuckles before getting rescued by teammates & officials. The typical 70's Flyer game. Poor Dave couldn't even beat up Bobby Orr. Not to mention that Orr had a higher fight winning percentage by far. So how did The Hammer get into the NHL record books in 74-75 with 472 PIM (sprinkled with 9 goals as a forward-HA!)? By losing 94 fights and getting 2 additional minutes for that nasty 'stache. Amusing.

  • Flyers jump in again! Loosers since???

  • I was in Nirvana when I saw these Islanders beat those Assholes in 1980.

  • Not even close to being the the same team, nice non call by the refs to help win that series too, the guy was only 30 feet offsides. Those were crazy good Islander teams though, can't dispute that.

  • Chak3226, I highly agree with you! In this series when the Islanders came back from a 0-3 deficit to tie the series, at first I was in shock, then I was so pulling for the Islanders to win this series. Because I know that this Islander team would have definately put "The French Connection" on ice in the Finals.

Oh, and by the way, no pun intended in the comment.

  • Had the opportunity to meet Mr. Gillies at the all star festival in Montreal for the 2009 All Star game. He is a very classy person and a true gentleman. Even though I am a Bruins fan, I respected the effort and toughness he showed on the ice. Would have looked really good in the Black and Gold.

  • that was just a street fight

  • Comment removed

  • gillies destroys schultz. Jethro was downright scary!

  • flyers jumping in again,,what a buncha pussies!

  • As a hockey fan since 1965, I can attest to the fact that ProbertFire's comments about Battleship Kelly and the O'Reilly-Gillies battles are right on the money. Kelly's loss to Wensink is analagous to Gillies' loss to Lyndon Byers -- both Kelly and Gillies were past their primes.

StevKa -- I can assure you that Gillies NEVER broke O'Reilly's jaw and all five of their fights are on Youtube. Gillies was one of the best but took the two worst beatings of his career from Terry in the '80 playoffs.

  • The game out here on YouTube where Gillies fights O'Reilly twice omits the 3rd fight of that same game where Gillies broke O'Reilly's jaw thus silencing O'Reilly like a vicious dog freshly hit by a car... (don't think O'Reilly ever fought Gillies again once that series ended...)

That series was memorable and wish that 3rd fight would finally be posted by someone................

  • BTW - I call the Gillies - O'Reilly series 3-2 Gillies, even tho the Gillies win in fight #4 is a bit of a jump job by Gillies. The only reason it counts as a "fight" is because O'Reilly got up and made a fight. One of the other Gillies wins was very close, but slight edge Gillies.

Gillies was very tough, but in those 5 fights, I was more impressed with O'Reilly's heart, guts, and ability to fight back when taking big shots. O'Reilly didn't back down an inch, and gave as good as he got.

  • Gillies just bitch-slapped Schultz LOL... Schultz never wanted any part of Gillies unless the entire Flyer team was holding Gillies.

  • Dupont. Bitch of schultz.

  • The Flyers were a great team for a few years. They won two straight Cups and then made the finals the next year in '76 against Montreal.

I just read a new book called "Let's Talk Hockey: 50 Wonderful debates" from amazon and one of the chapters is devoted to what kind of path the game would have taken had Philly beaten the "Flying Frenchmen" (Montreal) in '76. It may have changed things, since the Flyers brawling style of play didn't sit well with everyone. The good guys won though, lol

  • Those fuckin' dickhead Flyers jumping in to help that piece of shit Schultz when he is getting fucked up by Gillies...fuckin' dickheads!! =D

  • Schultz gets his ass handed to him! what a fucktard he was!

  • What a joke that those faggot Flyers would jump in to help that fuckn goon Schultz after the shit that asshole caused. It would be like someone jumpiing in to save Brashear in this day and age. Unheard of.

  • This is something that humbled the legend of Schultz. Philly was still a tough team after this, but the invincibility of Schultz disappeared after Gillies mopped the floor with him

  • I ask you this....How many people BEAT Gillies?...oh that's right...no one.

So losing to Gillies isn't such a kick in the balls, that man was a beast.

  • 2 words...Behn Wilson

  • Actually O'Reilly , Wilson and Byers......he wasn't invincible

  • Terry O'Reilly beat Gillies that's who and more than once. All the video evidence is here. Also pummeled Schultz more than once.

  • Gillies kicked O'Reilly's ass 2 out of 3 fights. I have the tapes!

  • Sorry it's 2 out of 5.....The tapes are on You-tube

  • I am a Rangers fan so I am neutral. Gillies won 3 out of the 5; O'reilly even trys to kick Gillies in one that I gave O'reilly. Gillies was the toughest fighter during that period.

  • These Flyers were gutless. See Dupont jump in as Gillies had the upper hand.

  • They won the cup after that to moron, they kicked everbodys ass, o yeah real gutless

  • kicked everyones ass? then why dont you look on here and watch larry robinson kick his ass as well.

the flyers always jumped in because they were gutless

  • Schultz would've ended up in the intensive care unit for a month or two if his butt boys on the Flyers hadn't jumped in to save his sorry ass. Not exactly like picking on Dale Rolfe, was it Dave?

  • The Phillie number 6 there stepped in ! what a scumbag ! :(

  • Gillies was the fucking man.

  • Gillies was soft? you're stupid. He knew he could kill anybody if he wanted but he prefered to be a hockey player.

  • Gillies was soft..went by a rep built on his own fear...and he admitted it...

  • if you think that then you're too young to have actually seen Gillies fight

  • no not really since I'm 45 not the 35 stated. I remember the bullshit Flyers that intimidated theire way to 2 Cups and sent the Red Army packing for 30 minutes live on PBS in NYC ( the only time I ever rooted for PHI ) My point is that Schultz was a self professed pussy who looked for the weakest in the herd prior to a game and made up his mind to be a punk.Gillies was forced into the role and probably would have been a better all around player had he not been forced to save Torttier & Bossy.

  • your a Rags fan! no wonder you'd say something as stupid as Gillies is soft...ask Ed Hospodar how "soft" Gillies was

and how much better of an "all around" player could he have been? the guy's a HOF'er already...please stop before you embarrass yourself further

  • Didn't Maurice Richard okay before Gillies?:)

  • I never thought of The Rocket as a power-forward...just a powerhouse player...

  • ekim must be high... Gillies was soft...LOL! Truth is, he didn't like to fight, but that doesn't make him soft. He fought when he had too, but he was no goon.

  • I never called him a goon, just said he was soft and looking back, he'd be the first to admit it....

  • i'd say gordie howe was the first true modern nhl power forward. gillies was awesome though

  • What a bunch of pussies the Flyers were. They ALL jumped in to save Schultz's ass and THAT couldn't even move Gillies. One man PWNED the so called Broad Street Bullies.
