This is one of my favorite Carrie Underwood songs. She always does this song very well! Every single time! Her vocals and emotions radiate from this song! She is really awesome! As for renditions, I am grateful others like her song enough to perform it. However I really feel that Carrie Underwood does it the absolute best. I recommend Carrie's performance of this song to anyone. I guarantee you will love it. She does it soo well <3
Carrie sings this well and I thought Jeremy sang for his life with emotion. But I really love the Kelly Clarkson live version. This song needs power and range. Carrie has a nice clear voice and she carries notes for a really long time, but check out Kelly Clarkson. She can really take this song where it should go.
Jeremy Rosado brought me to look up the original & I must say his had more emotions...maybe it was the timing...or maybe it fit his tone better...great lyrics. Listening to present crop of AI, Carrie may have not made it if she joined these days the way her voice sounds...maybe she its her appeal...

Carrie blew this performance out of the park with her flawless phrasing and power in the vocals. Jeremy was good but he couldn't even hold the phrases and had to cut short some of the notes. He had no vibrato in his voice to carry on holding the notes either. I guess haters will have to resort to

why are people arguing over whose version os better and tearing down the singers. Why do people think in order for one version to be good, the other singer's version has to suck? I am a sucker for a sad love song..and this is one of the most eloquent and beautiful songs I have heard in awhile..Should be no debate about who performs it better..Kelly or Carrie..Both bring their own unique talents to the song..
Um Carrie is just screaming! It's a shame that Kelly Clarkson covered this song and sang it better than the original. Carrie should be embarrassed. Kelly sang it with more ease. Kelly hit higher notes. I dunno.

Kelly Clarkson's version is wayyy better lol m sorry! Kelly has vocals, talent and emotion while carrie only has vocals (that r not close to KC since Kelly can sing on a higher key) and Kelly's range is a lot better carrie's voice gets nasally when she trys to hit the high notes!

Just heard both versions & .. people have their own opinions but .. Kelly definitely owned that song. She has soul, depth, emotion in her voice. This song is definitely to big for Carrie. Sure it was given to her first but doesn't matter. Kelly should definitely record this for a bonus track or something I don't know. I just NEED a studio version of this song by Kelly.
I couldnt even listen to Carries full version.. Everytime she got to the chorus she gave me a headache trying to scream.
Carrie's vocals are effortlessly powerful in this song. She doesn't need to scream or add too much melisma and twirling around notes to bring out the emotion. The phrasing and impeccable breath control conveyed such powerful emotion, subtle but clear. A mix of despair but then a sense of strength towards the climax and end. Such a mix of emotion and character Carrie brings to this song. Carrie tops all, no doubt about it.
@xtopher nah Carrie sings this so much better...i've seen the Kelly version and while it is a good cover, Kelly's version sounds like it's been tweaked to suit her voice...Carrie sings this more effortlessly

Yes Carrie's version is in fact powerful. But it is powerful in a sense that she had a lot of range. Kelly's was powerful in a different way. Kelly had so much emotion and acting and you feel her lyrics coming to life. And she seems like she was about to burst in tears. Carrie's is great as well but too controlled and precise.
Hm, came here to see Carrie's version of the song after watching the vid of Kelly singing it on VH1's Unplugged. I can see how people like Carrie's version - it is powerful, and she really holds those notes a long time. Myself, I think I'm leaning towards Kelly's version because I just feel a stronger connection. There's a desperation, an aching in Kelly's voice that I just didn't hear in Carrie. One was a performance; the other was an experience.
I love this song and her performance, but it wasn't the best presentation ever for sure, mainly because of the instrumental version. Better when she went to people's choice awards in 2009.
I love Carrie! But someone said it best, Kelly C. kicked the s*** out of this song. S-O-U-L-F-U-L, but I think it's a testament to how great the song is, and props to the writers. LOVE YOU Carrie and love you KC!
HOW can people think Kelly's version is better? If I saw her sing it live I wouldn't care to hear her sing it live again. When I witnessed Carrie sing this live it became my favorite song she has ever recorded. Her performance of this song is moving and flawless. When she sings it it sounds like a song from a mature woman. Kelly's reminds me of a whiny high schooler (vocally pleasing) but the emotion is equivalent to Taylor Swift. @KnowYourEnemys raspy vocals are raw and fierce in my opinion. there's a reason why so many love janis joplin and faith hill. carrie's awesome no doubt. kelly just put more blues into the song. i think sounding raspy has been kelly's signature lately. makes her sounding more like a seasoned rock star.

one of the best singers ALIVE. and my all time favorite, what a great singer and person. every song has meaning and when she sings you can feel it.. now ill admit im not a guy that cries alot, but last summer when i went to her concert for the first time.. she sang the songs so well and i could just feel it inside it was crazy, it brought tears to my eyes a few times. shes amazing, i met her after the show and shes so nice. my favorite singer :))

I'm from the Philippines and it's just sad that she hasn't toured outside U.S. and Canada except in Singapore and Australia. I'm looking forward to see her live and fortunately meet her in person. @xtopher nah Carrie sings this so much better...i've seen the Kelly version and while it is a good cover, Kelly's version sounds like it's been tweaked to suit her voice...Carrie sings this more effortlessly

@reedrm effortlessly? are u kiddin me!? .. shes just screaming & theres no soul there when she sings.. no depth.. no emotion.. just her screaming the chorus.. so not good for the ears. Try putting it on ur ipod and listening to it in the car .. not good at all.
& it's a cover, of course Kellys going to do it her way, she's not gunna do it the exact same way as carrie

Yes Carrie's version is in fact powerful. But it is powerful in a sense that she had a lot of range. Kelly's was powerful in a different way. Kelly had so much emotion and acting and you feel her lyrics coming to life. And she seems like she was about to burst in tears. Carrie's is great as well but too controlled and precise.

Hm, came here to see Carrie's version of the song after watching the vid of Kelly singing it on VH1's Unplugged. I can see how people like Carrie's version - it is powerful, and she really holds those notes a long time. Myself, I think I'm leaning towards Kelly's version because I just feel a stronger connection. There's a desperation, an aching in Kelly's voice that I just didn't hear in Carrie. One was a performance; the other was an experience.

I love this song and her performance, but it wasn't the best presentation ever for sure, mainly because of the instrumental version. Better when she went to people's choice awards in 2009.

I love Carrie! But someone said it best, Kelly C. kicked the s*** out of this song. S-O-U-L-F-U-L, but I think it's a testament to how great the song is, and props to the writers. LOVE YOU Carrie and love you KC!

HOW can people think Kelly's version is better? If I saw her sing it live I wouldn't care to hear her sing it live again. When I witnessed Carrie sing this live it became my favorite song she has ever recorded. Her performance of this song is moving and flawless. When she sings it it sounds like a song from a mature woman. Kelly's reminds me of a whiny high schooler (vocally pleasing) but the emotion is equivalent to Taylor Swift. Of course, youtubers are probably mostly whiny high schoolers...

If people liked Kelly as much as you guys said, she would be making the big bucks, but she's not. Carrie is making the BIG Bucks because people love her.

@carshe209 i'll take this. First, it's Carrie's Song so NOBODY can sing it "better." If you're too dumb to realize this Carrie doesn't sing any covers that she does "better" than the original. Whoever sings it first sings it the BEST. Second, Kelly messes up the words, isn't ANYWHERE as pretty, and can't switch from chest to throat voice very well. She goes from chest to raspy which comes out like crap. Third, Carrie can hold WAY bigger notes without screaming, and longer than Kelly. Thanks, bye

@KnowYourEnemys raspy vocals are raw and fierce in my opinion. there's a reason why so many love janis joplin and faith hill. carrie's awesome no doubt. kelly just put more blues into the song. i think sounding raspy has been kelly's signature lately. makes her sounding more like a seasoned rock star.

one of the best singers ALIVE. and my all time favorite, what a great singer and person. every song has meaning and when she sings you can feel it.. now ill admit im not a guy that cries alot, but last summer when i went to her concert for the first time.. she sang the songs so well and i could just feel it inside it was crazy, it brought tears to my eyes a few times. shes amazing, i met her after the show and shes so nice. my favorite singer :))

@ryanneuman1 I couldn't agree more! I firmly believe that she is one of the greatest! There's no doubt in that. I'm from the Philippines and it's just sad that she hasn't toured outside U.S. and Canada except in Singapore and Australia. I'm looking forward to see her live and fortunately meet her in person. I've been a solid fan for years. I love her!!! :)
