i am a girl, but personally, i don't understand why guys would avoi it. think of it like this, would u rater die a slow and painful death from prostate cancer, or suffer slight dicomfort? honestly think about that... girls hav to get breast exams, and thats not exactly very comfortble either, especially for someone like me who is self concious. but, without it, myslef, and every other woman out there could die from breast cancer. its a "Nessacary Evil"

Until the medical profession comes up with a simpler more compassionate test than bending over and having another human violate your rectum with extreme pushing and pushing and discomfort. This issue will NEVER be reolved!!!! Listen to your customer!!!!!! The PSA is a good start but the finger must go. Think people think. The best you have is to bend over a grown man insert a finger into his ass... Sounds out of date. I gaurantee you get a scan, xray, sonogram system that works men would sign up

But the final word on the DRE and why men dont want to do it. Lets say the DRE finds a lump, the treatment options SUCK!!!!!!! if you do have cancer, bph or prostatitis. Most doctors cant even agree how the prostate feels and if there is an issue.Just read a little more of the blogs and some men have had 3 dr do a DRE at the same time and dont agree on the feel of it. The treatments either make you impotent or sit in a diaper , Not much advancement ftom 100 years ago.

Here are the reasons men ont want to do the DRE.

1. Its humiliating...probabally the worst thing a dr could do to you and still be awake. If you did this proceudre in the dr parking lot you would be arrested.

2. As far as women go through so much more at the doctors.. lets get this staight,, mens rectum is a one-way device and can only expand a certain amount.

3.Womens vaginas dialte to 10 MM - the size of a Tennis ball, From the age of 12 they are constantly inserting something

New research has shown that screening does not decrease the death rate. Look it up. Even the ACS no longer endorses it. This may even get more men in for physicals knowing there won't be any glove to deal with. Net result, more men may have other life threatening illnesses detected early. The ones that can be treated.

i remember i was like 6 and i went in the hospital cause of some flu. i remember a nurse putting her 3 middle fingers up my ass cause i wasnt shitting often lol. it hurts till today when i remember it. Her fingers were like the ECB

You guys are joking, right? The ignorance of most of these posts is shocking. This disease is a major killer yet can be cured if caught early. The idea that the doctor's finger up your ass will cause an erection is absurd. It won't happen. A few seconds of minor discomfort to save my life? Any time.

Men don't go for prostate exams for the same reason we avoid the doctor: it's humiliating. Chances are you'll be confronted by an ALL FEMALE staff even if your doctor is male. How comfortable would women be if their gyn and all his staff were male, if she found herself exposed to male CNAs and MAs fresh out of HS? Women would be avoiding clinics like Jack the Ripper was inside.

Men avoid these exams because the prostate is stimulated during the procedure and they either feel uncomfortable or "gay" because this will in turn cause an erection. Point simple and made plain.

But it's not the erection that would bother me personally - it's the reaction of doctors, especially female ones, who think you're some sort of a threat just because your body reacted the way it's designed to. And with all the paranoia about men these days, and mud sticking, some doctor claiming I'm a pervert is not something I want to experience

I think men avoid this exam because of their ego. Its understandable that this exam may feel uncomfortable for men its not easy going through the procedure of inserting couple of fingers in your anus but this can save your life. Its more sad to dye in pain slowly in the area that hurts the most when you are in pain your b.....

Haven't been to a doctor since I was a pre-teen.

Unless I'm bleeding to death, in never ending pain, or unable to move or talk, I ain't going to a stupid know it all doctor. I hate being fondled like a rag doll anyways. I will die one day and no doctor will ever be able to prevent it.

i agree sam, tired of being humiliated , only to be told i'm fine. plus, my dr. keeps inviting colleagues in to observe, too humiliating, all in a days work for him...NOT for me.

men avoid these exams because they are only needed in exceptional circumstances and more than 90% of the time they are unnecessary!!!!

But wouldn't that 10% make it all worthwhile? I mean, many lives must have been saved and you never really know if you have prostate cancer or not unless you get an examination.
