  • If you need to be proffessionally taught how do enjoy the taste of something, doesn't that imply that the "something" doesn't taste very good to begin with?

  • @conman2317 No, not at all. This kit is to help you improve your ability to detect the various hop profiles. A beer can taste or smell fantastic but that doesn't mean you can identify what is making that way. Thanks for watching.

  • Just curious: What are your favorite/worst beers? I'm drinking a Sam Adams Irish Red right now. Very nice. The worst Sam Adams is the Blackberry Witbeer.

  • My favorite beers are, in no particular order, Mikkeller Beer Geek Brunch, Girardin Gueze, Duvel, and Redhook Double Black Stout. I like IPA's and Stouts more than other styles right now but I think once I have some more Belgian beers that could change. The worst beer I've ever had was "Scotch Buy" back in 1983 (it was the Safeway store brand). Natural Ice was pretty bad as well.

  • Theres more to beer than the hops, there are bittering hops and aroma hops and grain. Mr Fuggles lived just down the road from me (long time ago mind). You seem pretty keen on beer, go and make your own. You will beat them hands down. I've travelled from to Texas for the Dixie Cup and know my beer. Make your own man, you are wasted judging other peoples. If you know hops and are that keen you should go all grain and brew. Subsonic (drinking a pure Fuggles Best Bitter in Kent England)

  • Glad you enjoyed it. It rained VERY hard right after I got off the deck. I think we got over 1/2 inch in 15 minutes or so! As for the geek part, I have to agree with you, I do like pretty much all things beer.

  • Pointless! Spend the money on beer and READ THE LABEL!

  • Reading the label helps with a lot of beers, but not all. This kit is just one more thing people can use, if they want, to help them. It's definitely not a requirement to enjoy good beer, just a tool.

  • I can see where that would really help improve your beer tasting skills. Even if you just think about it more and try all the different smells, its going to open your senses up to all new kinds of tastes. I liked the color chart too. It would be better though if it gave you a word to describe the color rather than a number. You know, something like, sunset amber, oak chocolate brown, etc.

  • I'm finding the kit to be really useful. It does definitely help you to "expand" your ability to detect different flavors. I think the color chart uses numbers because that is much more consistent than names, though not as descriptive.

  • You should try this with IPAs rather than an amber. Fat Tire is not a beer with much hop aroma or taste.

  • In the month or so that I've had it I have tried it with a couple of IPA's, Sierra Nevada Torpedo and Lagunitas IPA. It is easier to match up w/IPA's.

  • Awesome Video man, thats for all the info

    !

  • You continue to be an American hero. Congrats. Where can I get this kit? do they sell it online? This is very interesting.

  • You can go directly to their site at tasteyourbeer (dot) com Or my blog at videobeerreviews (dot) com and order a kit by clicking on the image on the upper right of the sidebar. Either way you will pay the same but if you order through my blog I get a little bit of a commission.

  • Oh I would totally get it from your site when I'm ready. Good luck!

  • Hey Mark, what a cool video and product, Im definitely going for this one. I received the WILLIAMS BROS HOP QUIZ kit as a gift from my local beer store owner. It was 4 identically brewed beers but with different hops. You had to guess the hops based on the descriptions and the answer card was a rub off so you couldnt cheat. That was a lot of fun but Its a one shot deal. This is great you can get a lot of use out of it. Love It.

Thanks for the great video, John

  • It's a pretty neat idea and you can use this over and over again. The hops pellets should keep their aroma for months. You can order a kit by going to my blog and clicking on the link in the upper right sidebar.

  • I would end up dropping those pellets into a pale ale lol.

  • I didn't see that on the site, but I just gave it a quick look. The kit does have Target hops so I'll try that next time I have a Fat Tire.

  • Good one! They didn't supply any rice but I guess you could use some Uncle Ben's the macro stuff.
