For the people who excuse this as an accident, watch it again. Astronauts are the highest trained professionals on the planet. This is no small piece of equipment that she lost control of. She casually moves the bag aside like its on her workbench expecting it to stay where she left it. Its elementary physics. And consider the myriad of lowly paid, on the ground, who put her up there. The same sort of mistake might have killed them all on the launch pad. Show some respect Heidi!
and for the record: yes, it is expensive to lose shit in space, so I can at least understand and sympathize with people's annoyance at this. but then again, we've been doing that more or less deliberately for 50 years and more. why else would we have "space junk"? it's just jettisoned rocket parts, garbage, the occasional bolts, even "dead" satellites.
Lol she's so full of shit. 1st thing she does is blame it on someone else (typical woman), then she lies saying she was "cleaning", yeah we saw the video, you were doing no such thing! Then she shoved it forcefully to the left, jettisoning into the vastness of space. There goes not only the material cost of the tools, but the extra time and resources it took to complete the extended spacewalk. Why are women put in charge? I'm not even mad.
@AiurDefender I see the voice of logic has arrived, Thank You. This is also actually a serious thing, the amount of debris in space is increasing and could (probably will) cause trouble for future space development. But all that people care about is the fact that it was a woman that lost this tool bag.
@twojaek After they spend 13 million dollars designing new magnets "adapted" for use in space, and another 11 million in testing, they'll then contract a magnet manufacturer to build the magnets to specs, and they'll cost another 3 million, then, it'll be a great idea.
Real cost if they had just bought regular high strength magnets? $2.50 on ebay.
@Fentanyl3 lol i coul dso see that happen 11 mill on a bag lost trying to update the system using magnets well nasa is useless now so were all safe from flying tools
Only dumb-bitches would think that these items are no big deal..! Just go down and get another tool bag. Like I have a Camera, just use that in space. Jesus... like why you got to pick on women for this!!
The females monologue is wrong, it goes to show women protect women and that it has become socially unacceptable to criticize them. The tool bag did not float away by its own volition, as the pair would have the rest of the world believe for their own causes, nor did it get rapped around a joist. She took the bag out and let it go. Misreported to protect female empowerment in the west.
women are insidious- the video evidence conflicts with what she is saying. You see her pull the item out with her left hand like its a "handbag on a table", everything else is underneath it. It is crucial that female linguistics are examined, especially in law.
"Just as much my fault as hers". Another man lying and taking the blame to prevent a woman from tearing loosing it. Can't blame him, I wouldn't want to be locked up in a tiny capsule with a pissed off emotional woman either.
@darktiger113 This is a big deal, that probably costed millions of dollars to send it up there and to make the tools.. Now that there is an object orbiting in space what happens if it comes down crashing to earth? Or what if it smashes a satellite?
@The0rangePanda It wouldn't reach the surface so that's not a problem. And it's one of billions of objects orbiting around earth, of course it's not good to add more, but it's one of billions. You're right that it would have devastating effects if it hit a satellite tho. As for the cost of the content and sending it up there I can't say anything since I don't know what was in there. At least I wouldn't blame the astronaut, bag should had been attached in a rope or something so that can't happen.
@Darkanii these were million dollar tools that were cast into space by this asshole who describes it as a "little hiccup" no. it was an enourmous fuck up that coust our country millions. they should have just put a chanel logo on it and we would be fine. also, you saw her just push it away and stare at it. she didnt even move over to grab it! she just grabbed for it, didnt reach it, and just stared at it as millions of dollars floated away
@The0rangePanda ..uhh, dude? There's literally millions of man made objects orbiting the earth right now. If they hit something, nothing really happens. I mean when it's just floated off like that there's almost no momentum to it. And if it fell to earth, it would burn up in the upper atmosphere like everything else.
This is kids stuff. You should know better than to say stuff this dumb.
@richardmaudsley77 Just as a point of correction to when you said there was "almost no momentum to it", let's not forget that like the space shuttle that bag was moving at a tangential velocity of approx. 7860m/s or roughly 17.5 thousand miles per hour. If I do the math that is actually quite a lot of momentum.
only foolish people laugh at other people's mistakes. Everybody makes fuckups from time to time. those on here who leave abusive comments obviously have no brains. she must be pretty good if she passed the training for nasa space flight. if you judge a person for a small mistake you are a fool
Do you have any idea how difficult and stressful a job being an astronaut is? Probably way harder than anything you've ever done. Oh no, she lost a bag! How many things have you lost? A lot of stuff I bet...
No, pretty sure I'm a man, hard to mistake. And why not? I don't really plan on it, but still, I mean what jobs are dangerous? I guess piloting is, and construction. I'll try to stay away :p
I don't see how the man fucked up. Are you implying that he should have taken her incompetence into account by preparing some sort of countermeasure? btw shadowninja7194 is obviously just trying to be funny you obviously can't take a joke. Also your second sentence is a lame comeback, that lady is probably smarter than all the posters here, including you. That being said, regardless of gender, that situation would still merit much laughter and ridicule.
I think it is very serious! Look what a bit of styrofoam did to the space shuttle Columbia. "The tool bag cost $100,000; the tool bag weighs about 30 pounds & is 20 inches wide, about a foot high & a hand's-width deep, according to John Ray, STS-126 lead spacewalk officer for the flight. The bag contained two grease guns, a scraper tool, a large trash bag & a small debris bag." A 30lb tool box can't punch a hole in the leading edge of a shuttle's wing? Definitely a hazard to space navigation.
Much as im sure that sailors have accidental dropped items into the ocean, astronauts are human too. She's probably not the first to ever let something get away, and she probably wont be the last. Honest mistake.
A couple of grease guns and some miscellaneous items? its not worth that much hassle. however unlike the ocean, a shuttle could be deployed if it was truly that important. where as the ocean, if it sinks its gone.
Exactly what I was thinking every damn time I saw the scene. The bag did not "float away," but "was flung away, and then continued drifting in the direction flung." There is no room to even call this a "mistake." It was sheer stupidity due to an incapacity to sustain consciousness of her context and environment. She literally forgot that she was in space. The smaller size of the frontal lobes in women accounts for their incapacity to sustain contextualized attention.
100 yrs time there will be jobs not just for astranouts but just your every day enginere in space the amount of satalites that will be up there and need to be maintained it will be second nature to go into space for every one lucky bastards
He's laughing at her because she's such a dumbass, and also because he had a mental image of her trying to go after the bag of tools that "floated away" (was FLUNG away), and in that image he saw her floating away also, and thought it was funny. Those tools were expensive and were very important, or else this wouldn't have made the news.
I want to know if.. you were out in space fixing the station, and you had one hand on it. Obviously you and the station would have the same weight. ZERO.. So why when the space crew exert muscle force on the station does it not get pulled off orbit..?? I mean solar wind can push stuff.. I don't get it..
Hmm. I had another thought.. In orbit I said both the space walker and the ship would be the same weight.. But in order to be in orbit the ship and walker would be feeling the effects of earths gravity. So.. Surely its not truely Zero G.
The male astronauts have lost stuff in space too. gloves, bolts, spatchulas. Plus, it's not a big deal compared to all the rocket stages floating around from the early NASA years.
Also, I'm sure you'll find the love of your life talking about women like that...
This is the first time a woman has ever led an EVA, this is the biggest item an astronaut's ever lost in space.
FACT.
Conicidence that it was a woman? No chance.
I'll have a lot of fun before I die and when I do, enough money to pay someone who's been properly trained to look after me because "the love of my life" won't have spent all of my cash on fripperies and bad decisions like having four kids in an overpopulated Earth, not going to work and not contributing for fifteen years. MABTW!
Are the tools worth $100K because of the tool R&D costs, or does it actually cost $100K to make each set because of the manufacturing process/materials? Just curious.
'disheartning' or dumb? not just the fact that they trusted this woman with tools, but who trusted this woman to lead the spacewalk in the first place? shouldn't she be making Tang or warming up meals for the boys? perfect example of why men are better than women.
Lets see......makeup.......compact..........cell phone........blackberry.........whoops a daisey........uh.......Houston......the tool bag just drifted off.......The good news is she wasnt piloting the shuttle or she would have backed into the space station . The two satelites that collided....yep it was being manuevered by a woman at Houston .
You know, why cant the media say anything good anymore. Instead of informing us about what their missions was for and why they were on the ISS, they go ahead and point fingers at an astronaut whom mistakenly forgot to tie down her tool bag. You are in a unaccustomed environment, it's in our nature to always keep something tethered to the ground. NASA should get more recognition from the media about all their scientific discoveries and the benefits they provide to make our lives easier.
Who knows...!! Probably this was a secret design of `TOOL BOX RIPPING OFF' staged by our space mission experts to educate ALIENS OUT THERE IN SPACE..ie:`TO SAY 'SORRY' WITH A SMILE TO EARTHLINGS'-even without a blanched face-in front of Earthling's TV COMMERCIALS!!(Just as this female `TV COMMERCIAL ASTRONAUT performs here...!!)
haha...YUK...!!This exactly happenes when she skipped that space training crash course of `SMEAR HANDS WITH GREASE AND WORK'...!!She indeed attended TV modeling training of `SAY SORRY IN SPACE'..!! I think she frantically secured that lipstick without loosing it which might be more handy during `TOUCH DOWN SPEECH' than those silly tools...!!
Look, Heidemarie, he TOLD you it was going to leak - the grease gun was supposed to leak how do you think you get those things up in space without them leaking a bit? They told you it was going to happen ahead of time. Don't say it "exploded" or that it was "all over" - it was as it was supposed to be. It wasn't tethered right. That was also not the engineers fault - it was the people who put together the bag. Don't blame the grease gun or the person who made it - it was made perfectly.
Ha! Its like she wanted to move it out of the way and thought it would just stay there. Its as if she was looking for her keys in her purse and was getting pissed and forgot where she was!

So why when the space crew exert muscle force on the station does it not get pulled off orbit..?? I mean solar wind can push stuff.. I don't get it..
TheOv3rlordK1ng 2 years ago
solar wind? that does nit work like wind on earth.
djderk 2 years ago
Same zero-weight yes, but not the same MASS. that's why the astronaut moves but the station doesn't.
6024kingedward1 2 years ago
both the station and the astronaught are moving at 17500 mph so by the time they push it it would have moved like a mile lol
OblibProductions 2 years ago
Hmm. I had another thought.. In orbit I said both the space walker and the ship would be the same weight.. But in order to be in orbit the ship and walker would be feeling the effects of earths gravity. So.. Surely its not truely Zero G.
TheOv3rlordK1ng 2 years ago
The male astronauts have lost stuff in space too. gloves, bolts, spatchulas. Plus, it's not a big deal compared to all the rocket stages floating around from the early NASA years.
Also, I'm sure you'll find the love of your life talking about women like that...
Have fun dying single and alone...
inhale1 2 years ago
This is the first time a woman has ever led an EVA, this is the biggest item an astronaut's ever lost in space.
FACT.
Conicidence that it was a woman? No chance.
I'll have a lot of fun before I die and when I do, enough money to pay someone who's been properly trained to look after me because "the love of my life" won't have spent all of my cash on fripperies and bad decisions like having four kids in an overpopulated Earth, not going to work and not contributing for fifteen years. MABTW!
pete2778 2 years ago
Jeez, what's the chance of the bag hitting another satellite. It could do some serious damage floating in space.

Yes. Rope.

She was flirting with another astronaut. She dropped her purse and wanted him to pick it up for her.

Would all you dumb assholes be berating the whole male sex if this was a man?
satanskin 2 years ago
Haven't you heard? Men would make a mistake like this. BECAUSE THEY ARE MEN.
Sorry guys who are making demeaning comments about women.

Are the tools worth $100K because of the tool R&D costs, or does it actually cost $100K to make each set because of the manufacturing process/materials? Just curious.
skysail888 2 years ago
'disheartning' or dumb? not just the fact that they trusted this woman with tools, but who trusted this woman to lead the spacewalk in the first place? shouldn't she be making Tang or warming up meals for the boys? perfect example of why men are better than women.
AbahZabah 2 years ago
@katemills2521
completely agree with you. It seriously takes hell much of knowledge about things like physics, techniqe etc.
Much more than a usual cookie-cutter man on earth can ever know!
And I say this as a man ;)
romikov1989 2 years ago
LOL!
You people are all like "dumb woman, come iron my shirt, don't forget your make-up, bitch!"
Why do you think she's an astronaut in the first place? Because she's 10x smarter than all of you twats.
katemills2521 2 years ago
yeah she spent all the time studying books and answering questions only to fail at a physical task.
Studying all you want doesn't make you good it physical tasks.

women!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's right, make some more excuses. You pushed the bag aside and you're surprised it floated away? You're in space, there ain't no gravity.
And that other cunt taking up for her.
Who put a fucking woman in space, anyway?
dudlemann 2 years ago 4
who gave her a tool bag
lordmind 2 years ago
I was going to suggest sending someone like you up dudleman... but I guess they stopped sending monkeys into space years ago.
satanskin 2 years ago
Actually, monkeys were never sent into space. They were chimpanzees.

Women astronauts...pffft!!!
What's she doing in space anyway? She should be at home ironing a man's shirt.

Ok, why was this video a redirect from Tool - Schism video?

0:39 No, that bag did not "came lose and floated away". You just pushed it away 0:32. Ups.

Lets see......makeup.......compact..........cell phone........blackberry.........whoops a daisey........uh.......Houston......the tool bag just drifted off.......The good news is she wasnt piloting the shuttle or she would have backed into the space station . The two satelites that collided....yep it was being manuevered by a woman at Houston .
antiochblade 2 years ago 3
Don't they have some sort of grappling hook they can use to retrieve it before it floats away?
BinkieMcFartnuggets 2 years ago
Next time they should stamp some kind of designer label like Prada on it.
That way the stupid and incompetant bitch would never lose it.
That, or keep stupid twats away from important space missions altogether.

NASA should get more recognition from the media about all their scientific discoveries and the benefits they provide to make our lives easier.
stephanjw 3 years ago 9
Who knows...!! Probably this was a secret design of `TOOL BOX RIPPING OFF' staged by our space mission experts to educate ALIENS OUT THERE IN SPACE..ie:`TO SAY 'SORRY' WITH A SMILE TO EARTHLINGS'-even without a blanched face-in front of Earthling's TV COMMERCIALS!!(Just as this female `TV COMMERCIAL ASTRONAUT performs here...!!)
fabrosin 3 years ago
haha...YUK...!!This exactly happenes when she skipped that space training crash course of `SMEAR HANDS WITH GREASE AND WORK'...!!She indeed attended TV modeling training of `SAY SORRY IN SPACE'..!! I think she frantically secured that lipstick without loosing it which might be more handy during `TOUCH DOWN SPEECH' than those silly tools...!!
fabrosin 3 years ago
you have got to be kidding... do you really think NASA would send anyone to do 7 hours EVA just because they "want to be more diverse"?
in that case, why dont you apply? they are probably short on morons....
margotlorena 3 years ago
it's the ol' "lost-my-toolbag-greesing-that-thing" excuse. but with a name like snufalufapiper you'd expect her to loose that shit.
Lifesucksdie123 3 years ago
This has been flagged as spam show
there goes $10,000,000 slowly drifting away. All because NASA was forced to employ a woman because of a set equality quota rather than on ability
