Bach was a genious! The way he sequenced the melody in the Fugue portion and the technicallity of the Prelude was fantastic! Then with the Piccardi Third resolving the end in that major chord... Manifique! Oh, and you played this marvelously of course! I appreciate the tempos you chose. They suit this piece very well!
I had lucky enough to get to perform this peace in high school at a band festival and i loved everything about it! But not knowing about the BWV number i wasn't every able to find it again. But today you made my day! Thank you so much! This is a great performance! You are clearly a very gifted individual! Thank you again!
For a romantic organ ( am I right?) this sounds remarkably baroque. Good choice of registration. Its not easy playing baroque music on organs it were not written for.
Have to say I disagree with some of the comments below.
OK, there's one or two little bits that need tidying, but so what? That's all part of the learning process!
I know this is only a small work, but I think the "BIG" registration really suits it. Normally I'm not one for the big reedy sound, but in this case I think the pedal reed works well.
There is way too much pedal...you should choose a non-reeded 16' stop. Also at the sequences, you are rushing just a tad bit and either holding the pedal and left hade too long or cutting it to short. In the score it's written as a half note...so one beat. You should be more Baroque like with your trills and play this less like a pienist, and add space between the 8th notes to better fill the room. There were some good moments inthe Fugue! Work on that pedal solo at Measure 15, God Job!
This (especially the fugue) is actually quite a tricky little piece - very well played and the tempo is well chosen, but I do agree with Glenn and favour a lighter regristration. Nonetheless, a personal favourite of mine - thank you and bravo!
I played this in the area all-state band the past weekend. The prelude here is pretty good. The eighth notes in the first measure of the fugue was way too rushed and some notes were missing. But overall it was great. I knew that this piece was written for keyboard (mainly organ) so I decided to check it out. Thank you for posting this. =]
Good playing, but the prelude is way to muddy with sound, lighten the stops, it will really give you a different colour. The fugue needs to be more articulated, the phrases need to speak. Overall, I think you did a great job for not having a lesson in a long time.
I played this piece for a festival many years ago, and I still play it today. Love the fugue. Just to remember to keep it light and free.
I haven't had lessons for a good while now and I'm trying to find a suitable Organ Teacher, I like learning myself on times and like a good go at "sight reading" which is very good practicing purposes.
Mind you I haven't done any exams on the Organ only upto grade 2 on the theory, so I need to get my skates on I think.
It's always nice to practice on a good organ especially on the one I'm playing here (as well as my other videos)
Fantastic Rob. I have tried to accept your friend request. Hope I have doen it right as not used that before.
I am Grade 5 piano but lost track on route to Grade 6 last year. a course at work was so demanding that I gave up my lessons and have not returned yet. I have access to a small pipe organ at a local hall. Would love to be able to play like you.
This is certainly not tricky to play the prelude is obviously easier to play than the fugue but once you play it over and over again you will find everything falls in to place.
I'm especially fond of the prelude - haven't had the ambition to attempt the fugue yet, personally... glad to finally hear someone on YouTube post it.
