  • My Daddy is a deceased USMC Marine from Norwood, OH, who enlisted in 42. He boarded a train at 17 and fought in the Pacific and Korean War. I remember Bougainville being Dad's worst nightmare, it kept him up at night. Now all if Dad's records are gone, some supposidly burned in a 1940's firse, but I just want to find some of his campaign ribbons. Everything seems to be gone but honorable discharge from San Diego, CA in '45 or 46. Is there anyway I can track any of Dad's campaign ribbons?

  • My dad, Joseph Aloyisious Nauer, fought in this USMC battle. He only mentioned the place as hell on earth, but never talked about it beyond that. I knew it was the worst of the Pacific from the look on his face alone. He was one of he lucky who returned home, but changed forever according to my mother and his generation of our family. God Bless all of our soldiers and may they know our endless love and gratitude for their sacrifices. Semper Fidelis.

  • My dad servd in this battle never did i now what happened and what they went thru , i new but not really , He loved his fellow marines and made a point to see them every year till he passed , Now my daughters have joine the military one in army and one in marines ! the man and womn that serve our country are the ultimate heroes and deserve our ultimate praise May God Bless our troops

  • We are all one people in this globalized world and the sooner we can come together to overcome the greater evils on environmental disasters the sooner we can live on a healthy planet. Watch my video "Sailing out of Babylon".

  • Black American soldiers also took part in the Bougainville battle and did in fact beat Japanese garissons but General MacArthur covered it up. My dad was in the Army from 1943-1946. Back then, The US military did not want blacks in any part of the services anyway. Army,Air force,Marines or Navy.

  • @rotpp - Dear rotpp, I'm sorry to hear that. I know my Dad didn't subscride to that way of thinking. When he returned home he spent a short stint as a DI at Parris Is. and I know that he would'nt have been that way by knowing him. Any soldier, aside from the joking between sailors vs "jar-heads" and the other branches of the military, was still certainly a "brother forever". Thank you for your dad's service and I know they will slap each other on the back when they meet on the golden streets!

  • My father was there in 1943. 3rd marine division. Headquarters battalion, signal corp. I have many photos of him and his buddies overseas. I have only been able to identify one marine. A Sgt. Lao Kwick, who died in my fathers arms during the invasion of Guam. The 3rd division used Guadalcanal as a training post for the bouganville invasion. When Guam was captured, the marines used it as a training and staging area. Be glad to E-mail photo's for I.D. to any former marines children.

  • @barmtrail

my dad was also there. he was a radar man in the 3rd marines and was wounded there. any pix or info you may have would be greatly appreciated.

  • @rkflaw Go to 3rd marine division association and click on member services then photos. You might see someone you know. Also you can get your dsds military records from VETRECS.gov If you have his service # it will help surley. KNow his hometown birth place or where he joined the corps. My father joined in philedelphia. But lived elsewhere. Little things like that and you can get his records for a fee ofcourse. Also you can register him at WW2 memorial web-site. Good luck

  • @rkflaw I was even able to obtain my fathers best buddies records. He died in my fathers arms on GUAM and that was something that my father carried around for years after the war. We were able to get his name from my dad before he died and i got his records thru the F.O.I.A. My father visited his family after the war, and in my dads records was the letter from the mother of the fallen marine. Very interesting stuff if you want to know your fathers history and he didn't talk much about it.

  • My dad was there... 37th division US Army. He was wounded during the Japanese counterattack of March 1944.

  • My dad was there Nov.1 1943 He was in the USMC 3rd defense battalion 90mm antiaircraft gun he said they stopped at Guadalcanal before they attacked Bougainville I have all his stuff.

  • Aye grandfather was there, Paramarine

  • Hello, May I ask which Battalion he was in ? Do you have any photos of him in uniform ?
