There is another damaging aspect of this. How will this effect the Open Education Resource Movement. I have had personal experience with this program and has proven to be a valuable tool in children's education. OER platforms are nonprofit, operating with Creative Commons licenses and allowing global users to upload content on the honor system. The scope and size of OER platforms makes it difficult to monitor them in real time. This bill will effectually kill those programs. Some bill this is!
Has anyone bothered talking about how this bill will effect the Cloud? There is concerns that what is looking as a very promising technology might be thrown into the incinerator if this bill passes. Companies are not going to want to invest in something where they could potently have their entire networks taken down over a single offense. Something to think about.
Its about right, the supporter of the act says that all the online piracy is abroad and its foreign criminal sites.... Nothing wrong with America as usual its foreigners.
We all know by now that SOPA & Protect-IP will not just block American's from foreign sites that your government deem innnapropriate, but also the rest of the world from your own sites.
ya need to check out justin tv .. that site has so much illegal content its crazy.. a bunch of entertainment channels that break TOS and dmca policys of its own site..!!they dont abide with their own website
SOPA? Sure, because all those millionaire artists and billionaire corporations need every penny! Never mind a free internet, or freedom of speech, or fair use. No, nevermind any of those things. Just sit back and relax, and watch as we slowly become China...
All who condemn SOPA are patriots! Those who support such draconian measures are elitists and pro-corporate shills. The internet should remain free, as it often the only place the common person can be heard.
Amen to that! I just found an article on TechDirt a while ago/Which is still kinda relevant though it's about 4 days old.
A line from the article:
"The basic fact of the situation is that Lamar Smith is wrong in almost everything he argues here. He's wrong about what the bill is. He's wrong about whether or not it's needed. He's wrong about the impact of the bill. He's wrong about the opposition. He's wrong about the criticism."
