is it the end of the world if i'm using my pinky to play my high e string? i seem to be using my thumb to play my e & a strings, then my 1st thru 4th fingers on down...i'm sounding fine, but my neighbor who has been playing for decades pulls his hair out when he watches me...but is it so absolutely vital to play like everybody else does, just because they say so??? lol

@chickmagnet19 you should look up lowdenjim he teaches bob dylan's don't think twice and north country fair. these songs are complicated at first but if you just push your way through those two songs you fingerstyle guitar will begin to become a lot more natural. after you get your fingers feeling somewhat independent you could learn another slightly more complicated bob dylan song (he has a lot of good songs loll. especially for learning guitar players) called Buckets of rain.

ummm.... am i crazy or are you tuned a half step down???????? how do you expect to teach these poor students what you're doing if they can't even be in tune. i was even confused for a bit. trying to figure out what the hell was wrong... unless the tuner on my computer is off, your instructions could create some frustrated critters out there. not trying to be mean, but, c'mon. you're a teacher.

Its a good lesson but beginners probably will have a bit of a trouble figuring out if their guitars have something wrong 'cos of half step down tuning ;op

Another comment on my tuning: I wasn't intending for you to play along. If I was teaching a song - like from Tab - I'd make sure I was in standard. But I understand your concerns and will make future videos in standard.

i think he said he was just holding the Am chord which from the 2nd string from the top (A) down to the bottom string (E) has a finger position of 02210, try the excersize again holding this chord

second chord isnt f major 7

During these recordings my guitar was tuned down a half step or so. The chord "position" was f major 7. I guess it was really an e major 7
