  • hey Rich, i broke the pully and need to replace that, how would i re-instal the pully?

  • @p174208 I have a kit from AutoZone part #27031 it has a remover and installer for $40.You can take it out on loan from them if you want also.

  • Hey gang, here are some notes from my own pump removal:

Be sure to cover the CV joint boot with plastic so the steering fluid doesn't touch the rubber boot.

There might not be a whole lot of slack on the pump lines and EVO sensor plug. Be careful.

  • @RandallFlaggNY Sorry i could not be more help with that EVO having not removed one before. After some digging i see it screws in place.

  • @richpin06a I replaced the pump yesterday. It was a trial for me. Today my throat hurts once again, and I sprained my back.

Some thoughts: Taking it off wasn't so bad. Putting it back on is bad. The rental tool for the pulley removal/install is a must. No documentation exists for the EVO sensor removal/transfer. I removed the sensor with a 30MM open end wrench. An "E" (?) clip is removed to orient the power receptacle. Not the original orientation, as this critical for the plug...

  • @RandallFlaggNY to clear the input/output fluid lines.

Take pictures of the old unit for reference. All bolts are 10mm, but two are longer than the rest. Make not of which holes they go in.

Your new pump should come with two new o-rings. One goes on the outgoing pressure line (16mm wrench needed) the other on the recessed tank to pump connection (press on fit of tank to pump housing.)

Oh...Are you experienced....not necessarily stoned, but beautiful...

  • @richpin06a I'll send ya' some pictures. I'm off to Sears tonight to buy a 16MM wrench. I work on it later. Thanks for the help.

  • Rich, could you point me to what pulley removal tool to buy?

  • @RandallFlaggNY I use the one from AutoZone Part Number: 27031 i have had no complaints with it.

  • @richpin06a Thanks. I've rented it.

I wished you showed how to transfer the plastic tank. Any gotcha's I should know about? I shall be doing this repair sometime this week.

  • @RandallFlaggNY The ones i replaced had the tanks on them i do not recall removing any.

  • @richpin06a I just bought a re-man unit from Autozone. I does not come with a tank. I'm just hoping that it is the correct part and the tank transfer is simple.

I rented that special tool from Autozone. Do you use it to put the pulley back onto the new unit? From the instructions it would appear so.

  • @RandallFlaggNY There is one tool for removal and one for installing in the kit.

  • @richpin06a OK, thanks for all the help. I shall attempt this tomorrow if I feel well enough. Sore throat etc...

  • @RandallFlaggNY I know how you feel.

  • @richpin06a Rich, removed the pump as per your video.

My Duralast re-man pump did not come with and EVO sensor.

How do I remove the old one? Does it unscrew at the big hex nut?

    Need pictures?

  • Rich, Thanks for you videos! Very Helpful. I need to ask you about my SL2 man-tran There are three threaded holes in the face of the pump and two in the back and an EVO unit. From what I remember looking at is there is the one return hose on the resi and two ports on the body where the EVO and the high pressure line attach. Napa says they no got such a beast with a highpressure port and an EVO port. What does the HP line thread into-pump or EVO?

How does the EVO attach to the pump body?

  • @MacGYT1

Sorry for the dual post. Troubles trying to sign up and link youtube and google accounts ARRRGH! :/

  • @MacGYT1 The pressure line goes to the pump and the evo is attached to the body .

  • @richpin06a Thanks. How does the EVO attach?

The two pumps that I saw in the parts store had no threaded openings for the HP hose like what I saw in the video only a smooth walled opening for the EVO. I think NAPA has got something wrong...

  • @MacGYT1 I have never taken a EVO off

  • Rich, Thanks for you videos! Very Helpful. I need to ask you about my 92SL2 man-tran There are three threaded holes in the face of the pump and two in the back and an EVO unit. I remember looking at one return hose on the resi and what appears to be two ports on the body where the EVO and the high pressure line attach. Napa says they no got such a beast with a high pressure port and an EVO port. What does the HP line thread into-pump or EVO?

How does the EVO attach to the pump body?

  • hey there, i was wondering if the 2001 sc1's even have power steering? mine dosent and the sc2 my friend has does

  • @BoomJay19 They do have a listing for one with manual steering but most s-series have power steering.

  • @richpin06a we have a 92 honda prelude. dohc. weve still got the pump. but the guy we bought if off of took it off cuz he thought it was easier to use? its racecar lol. would it be hard to keep out leaks and such after we re install it?

  • @BRO1Productions You could have leaks if a hose or seals in the steering box are bad.

  • @richpin06a alright. thanks

  • You are awesome, co-incidentally the same car I am working on. PS too.

  • where can you get that siphoning tool?

  • @wangbungal I made it check out my latest video to see how.

  • Thumbs up if you're a CRAFTSMAN guy!

  • my power steering fluid is pitch black i got it out with a suction gone and changed it 3 or 4 times what could cause that? but i hear no squealing from the pump itself when i turn

  • To replace the pulley, just use the tool & reverse the impact direction?? So, basically, this technique is good for all cars & somewhat easy. Is it the same for foreign cars...my friends late model infiniti I30 is getting hard to steer & she refills it every few days. Money is her issue & I want to help her since these vids have helped me.

  • i came home just to see your video and got back to the junk yard after, removing the pump with the bolts through the pulley , helped me a lot..thx very much very usefull!!

  • hay i did the job now its leaks the hose in back is try how tite has the solenoid need to be i think its that not sure takeing out one more time to stop leak the ofher line looks dry but not sure will go over it any ideas thanks

  • @wildwind03 Make sure you do not nick the o ring on the pressure line or it will leak

  • how do you get the tool ??? what year i have a 1995 thanks

  • @wildwind03 AutoZone has the tool to remove the pulley.

  • Very helpful, Thanks

  • Thanks

  • i want to take out the power steering on my miata but the belt runs to another component also. i was wondering if i were to remove the belt, would it mess up my car?

  • OMG you're listening to Garbage - Stupid Girl!!! Hi-5, thats some good music

  • You said to disconnect the solenoid.

Do we replace it or reconnect it on the install?

    What does it do?

How do we bleed the system?

  • You do not disconnect the solenoid only the electrical wires going to it .

  • You do not disconnect

    the solenoid only the electrical

    wires going to it .

  • just wanted to say i appreciate you taking the time to put these together. very helpful. i'm about to take on the daunting task of putting my rebuilt engine back in my saturn sl 4 dr. any body know any videos for the whole thing? its been sitting in my garage 3 years

  • Very good video, I enjoyed watching and learning. Also thanks for posting the name of the pulley puller, it would have been a question for me.

  • Thanks for posting this video. I have an SC-1 and it looks like the same procedure. Not sure where I'm leaking from from, but I thinks its from the bottom of the solenoid area Shaft seems dry...I wonder if its the high pressure hose connection.

  • this video helped me out a lot. thank you. my friend recently bought a car with the power steering disconnected and wer trying to get it fixed up. driving stick around nyc with no power steering is asking for problems. lol

  • whats the name of that special tool? the one that you used to remove the pully.thanks rich

  • That tool is called a Power Steering Pulley Puller. You can get the same one i have at AutoZone part #27031 for $43.00 or you can take it out on there loaner program.

  • doesn't removing the power steering add more power?
