Maureen, I love your voice and your rendition of this song and the others I have heard through You Tube. I was lucky enough to find it by typing in Hegarty on You Tube to see what turned up. I did so as my name is Patrick Hegarty from the east coast of the United States. As I understand it, my ancestors were from County Cork and prior to that from the border area of County Derry and County Donegal. I would think we are related but for the fact I can't hold a tune. Best wishes, Patrick.
@Patrickh444 Thanks for your comment.............Hegarty is my married name........my own name is McGuinness so maybe you have a McGuinness in your family...Maureen
Very beautiful. I would love to hear you sing if possible, Autumn Leaves, Wild is the Wind (Nina Simone version) and My Funny Valentine. I think you could do them justice.
I heard Maureen sing at Saint Rose's church in Santa Rose, California with the Derry Boy's Choir in the 90's on day 1 of a trip with my mother and aunt. I bought the audio tape after Mass and we listened to Maureen and the Derry Boys for the remainder of our California Trip. I wore out the tape many years ago. I am thrilled to have found Maureen again.
Maureen: when you sang this song in San Jose, California with the Derry Boys Choir, the man sitting in front of me put his head down on the back of the pew in front of him and sobbed as if his heart was broken, throughout your lovely rendition. There were more than a few like him that night, certainly. Thanks very much for the beauty you bring into this world.
A beautiful song that brings a tear to the eye of an old exile who never went back to say goodbye till his mother was 'buried beneath the clay'. Well sung, Maureen.
this was my grans song to me-i never ever liked as i didnt know the words but now am singing it most days i wish i found your site before she past she would haved loved you so much- great stuff
Thanks for sharing that one Maureen! It's on my favourites now. I was brought up not far from Limavady where this was meant to have been written (ringsend). I must let my mother aged 71 in on this.....x

The older man with the beard is actor John Thaw who also played Inspector Morse on the fabulous Masterpiece series. He passed away recently.

Where can I buy or download Maureen Hegerty's music. In particular I love her arrangements of Danny Boy and Ave Maria.
I don't know how it took me this long to find a voice like hers!

This is one of more Irish songs we had in my choir (a couple of years ago) for an "Irish evening". Irish music is very popular in Norway.

A beautiful performance of one of the most difficult songs to sing, even for a person with op[eratic training. A superb accomplishment.
