I prefer larger police dogs that can tackle and hold criminals, not ones that rip out large chunks of flesh. It is not good for the public image of the police. Use a dog that has guarding in it's genetic background. Seems like common sense to me??

A few years ago I was watching a guy walk down my street..with his pitbull and a shotgun. He said he was gona shoot it because it bit his daughter for pulling its tail. I took the pitbull home..and I have a 5 year old daughter who was 3 when i got the pit. Now onto the subject of APBTs I recently spoke to my local K-9 officer and he mentioned that they went to evaluate a APBT but the dog was reluctant to bite a human, if the bite suit, or bite sleeve was on the ground he would bite it, but if it was on a human he would not.

First off, using Pitbulls in a fight is traditional in many locations, Pitbulls have always been bred to be good with people and also a proportion of their lines have a high "gameness" level, which gives them the courage to keep fighting even when their getting mauled.

Pitbulls are a lot more gullible to human behavior or as i could also say, cruelty, because of most of their temperaments.

When comparing the best, Pitbulls are smalelr, they very rarely have the protective instinct that German shepherds have and their less intelligent, making them harder to train most of the time as proven.

You say that Labradors are good attack dogs? Labradors don't have the strength and overall aspects that the best German shepherds have. German shepherds are the most versatile of all. Do some real research.

It's not that pits are aggressive. Any pissed off dog is just as dangerous. Pits are just the target because they get shown in the media and idiots think they are cool and train them to fight and shit. I worked for K-9 Enforcement for a few years. The most unstable breeds I have run across are Rottweilers, Chows, and believe it or not, purebred German Sheppards. Pits excel at every aspect of protection/ search and rescue. They just have a bad rap. A purebred pit is an amazing animal.

actually Belgian Malenua(bad spelling i know) have shown to be more of a problem than a pitbull in certian situations even if theyre not police dogs. I know cause i have 2 pitbulls myself a Staffy/pit mix and a Bull Terrier/ pit mix. They're both trained in German and are the sweetest dogs you'll ever meet.Theyre both certified as Service dogs ,federally and locally.

The average pitbull SUCKS at protection/guarding because they were bred to love people so much. But with a professionaly K9 trainer they excell in police work as they put 110% into what ever you want them too. Look at Diane Jessup. She's rescued dogs and trained them for police work, drug sniffing dogs, etc...not the best choice as again, they're naturally people friendly, but when trained they do a mighty fine job.
