  • T like it

  • @lovingit93

I lkie that you like it.

  • wel you inspired me. Found quartz found file and made some charcloth, well I had it. Took only 3 strikes and I had fire.

    cheers

  • @teb0atoz

Congratulation. Three strikes is a lot less than it took me!

It's actually a lot easier than I made it look here.

The trick would be to get the charcloth closer to the sparks. These sparks have a low temperature and are small, so they cool down very quickly to below the ignition temperature of the cloth.

It's actually a lot easier to hold the rock steady and move the steel striker.

Having a smaller piece of file would help too.

    And a bigger rock....

  • Hey Rob great video as usual. So what you been up to? Some day we'll have a beer.

    cheers

  • If you keep hurting yourself why don't you just wear gloves.......

  • @MultiGuitarify

    We have a saying here:

"As jy dom is moet jy sukkel".

Basically, if you're stupid you get hurt, and that's how you learn.

So hopefully I'm a little less stupid now.

  • what a pathetic fucking digusting old wanker useless ways of making fire trying to find a niche

  • @Roshan3L

If that's the positive thing you have to say when you're in a good mood I'd hate to catch you on a GRUMPY day.

  • you can start by setting that hat on fire

  • that guy is creepyyyyyyyyyyyy

  • @atlantyman

By "that guy" I take it you mean me?

Frankly, I find it a little creepy when people refer to someone in the third person, when the person is standing right there in the room.....

  • Thumbs up if you thought about the movie, "Cast Away" when watching this video. hahaha

  • "Ah, a stone age cell phone." - the way you say these things, it really helps the comedy seem natural! Is comedy something you do on a regular basis?

  • Great! So well explained. Awesome.

  • AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

    let's try that again!!

    AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA !@#!#%@#$!@!

    okay lets try that again!

  • LOL

    AHHHH

Thank you for hurting yourself for us. :D

  • 2:20

    WILSOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON hahahaa

  • haha damn i know that hurt ive did that a bunch and i know its not funny from your point of view

  • "Speedy wrist"

  • I think you should try to master using a match first.

  • i love this guy

  • man your funny as hell

  • Rob ah with a B. If I dint have a bastard file, and I use one of those round sombitches?

  • @electronicdawg

Anything made of carbon steel should work okay. The trick is getting the sparks to land on the tinder, and doing so while they're still hot enough to ignite it/

  • @electronicdawg Good job Rob ah, with a b. I like your style. Little rough on the knuckles though.lol

  • press 6 really fast about 10 times then press 9 and let it play to the end

  • @MrDeerSlayerBNC03 youre gay

  • you should seriously make other how to vids i truly mean it

  • @MrDeerSlayerBNC03

    New series in the works.....

  • twss twss no you dont want to blow it off with your speedy wrist im sorry that to be said i dont want make you mad because u would burn me

  • 1:59 otherwise your gonna have a seal...GHWWAAAAAAA

  • you sound like me when i hurt my hands (:

  • @MediaMocker

Lots of nerve ending in the hands...

These screams were mostly due to frustration, though.

  • what was the kind of stone you were looking for?

  • @chostany

Iron pyrite in a form that won't just crumble when struck with a harder rock. FeS is quite common around here, but mostly in the from of small cubic crystals (fool's gold) embedded in a brittle substrate.

  • Hahaha fuck I almost pissed myself laughing. Rob is awesome!

  • @notfunni

    Cheers.

Bathroom is the second door on the left, for future reference.

  • can you you write it down pleaseeee

  • @MrPethelper

    Write what down?

  • Lemme guess thats your favorite one to do right?! haha I wanted to see what ur knuckles looked like after filing them down ahaha

  • @HWEisRISING

The pocket knife is one of my favourites,

And the hand drill is also very rewarding.

  • word of advice...... wear gloves!!!!!!

  • I'm home ill and had to stop watching your vids as the laughter causes me too much pain! Very much enjoy your unique style, it's both clever and funny.

  • press 7 on your keyboard

  • @RobwithaB a previous school principal of mine got a copy of this phone and awarded it to a fellow student....

then angrily threw it against a wall 40' away...

and then made the lucky student clean it up

  • What an EPIC series, I have actually learned some, and you are hilarious, love it and keep the epicness coming

  • @waynebenton420

I've learned quite a bit myself in the course of this series.

Sort of a journey of discovery, with a camera along for the ride.

  • i love this guy:D:D very funny.

  • I bet you would totally find this guy in the fantasy section at Borders books.

  • back in the day when there were stars in youtube

  • lol Did you hit your hand against the filer? XD

  • this video should be named "how to nut shot yourself with a rock"

  • very cool thanks you did a good job!! i dont care what they say !!! I will be practicing in low light so I can see what is going on with the friction spaks.

  • you're a muppet

  • Your not funny dude

  • lol stone age cell phone

  • AAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

  • 101 ways to take your skin off with a file!

  • God! the screams!!!

    But it was awsome.

  • Forgot Stoneage people had Carbon Steel xD

  • @mattsosm

They ddef had Pyrite, though. That video is coming up soon.

  • @ROBwithaB Good i love to learn how to make fire honestly i love the color and it sooths my heart hate :D can't wait to see it

  • @mattsosm and cell phones

  • @legomaniac225 xD yea :D

  • was this supposed to be comedic?... :o

  • lol this method... i dont like it. of course as a survival tactic its great. but it sounded very painful! :( keep em coming.

  • we will all need to know how to make fire on our own in few short years....if we survive....

  • Wow, you did not use parabolic mirror! xD But it looked more painful though

  • Good looks m8, that takes a lot of skill to do. I wouldn't have even thought of this method (nor the beer can either). I love the videos and will keep giving you the big thumbs up =)

I can appreciate how hard it is to make all this fire since I am a pyro myself. Compliments from me and the firebugs in my area

  • m8t ur funny

  • muhahahahaha so funny muahahahahahahhaha

  • OENGA BOENGA

    OENGA BOENGA

  • Your funny! Not realy patient it seems, but you sat there all day till it was dark to make fire... Or did you go inside because you got so impatient and come back out later? haha, still nice video

  • @AL0229

Actually filmed this deliberately in the late afternoon so that the sparks would show up better in the twilight.

It got darker than I'd hoped for, though....

  • @ROBwithaB aha, ok :)

  • what about going in the future a few thousand years

  • @manfred500

    I quite like the idea...

How do you think they might be doing this in the future?

  • @ROBwithaB Lasers

  • @ROBwithaB with pfm-technology

  • @manfred500

    What's pfm-technology?

  • Its the VADER Vocalist!! ARRRRGGHHH!!!!

  • @laughomaniac

You won't be laughing so hard once you find out that

    I ... AM .... YOUR ... FATHER.

  • @laughomaniac VADER! \m/

  • LOL wow your funny.. xD

  • @bretl33

    Thanks.

There's a few of these. Feel free to subscribe.

  • You look a lot like Criss Angel when he was sober and not doing drugs.

  • @dogburgers

    He's doing drugs?

Why am I always the last to know this stuff?

  • i think the myth that fire keeps animals away was started in the stone age from all the intense RAGEEEE screams from cavemen smashing their knuckles on rocks, i wouldnt go anywhere near a place where i heard screaming like that.

  • @Wyndstarthedruid

    Very sensible.

    That's why YOUR genes survived.

Discretion being the better part of valour, and all that.

  • @ROBwithaB yay for flemish genes!, yaya and all of that. haha.

  • RAGE QUIT!!!!!!

  • wht about 2 rocks and u rub them together 2 create friction

  • @lalagirl211

I'm still trying to find the right rocks. But the techniques is basically the same. Not so much rubbing the rocks together, but striking the one against the other. One hard rock, like flint or chert, and one with a high iron content, like pyrite.

  • hahaha that was funny. Good vid man!

  • @ArtistBlade1972

    Thanks.

    And thanks for the sub.

  • Awesome stuff:D

  • @TheRussianGymnast

    Thanks.

  • lol stone age NURD RAGE

  • @poultonb

    LOLworthy comment.

    Thums up.

  • You could simply use 2 files... cinda more convinient.

  • @paveldaddy

You probably could. Generally the one object needs to be harder than the other, though. Feel free to post a video response if you've practiced a "steel on steel" technique. I'd be curious to see that.

  • aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

i love ur vids :D:D:D great techniques.

  • @dachziegel17

    Thanks.

  • lol Fire Crotch...XD

  • hahaha speedy wrist

  • this is so underrated...

  • @aradosman

    But in a GOOD way.

  • the yelling kinda creeped me out.

  • @confism

Sorry. I don't actually TRY to be creepy. It just happens.

  • @ROBwithaB well someone has to be that, too.

  • Don't you just hate it when you're making yourself a fire and eighteen hours have gone by

  • @beakfast

And the lunch has got bored and walked away....

  • wtf is the ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh for lmao

  • WILSOOOOON!!!

  • Damn, you are so funny. And thanks for the tip also!

  • that's great! thanks you very much for the video

  • @lephotography

The pleasure (and the %$#% pain) are all mine.

  • You made me so nervous. Why didn't you use a larger rock?

Your videos are great! They are the first how-to videos that are informational and entertaining. I am watching your videos in numerical order, so I am not sure if you have made one like it, but I am hoping to find a video 100% as if you were thrown in the middle of the woods with nothing... how would you make a fire.... no man made anything. You are great. Thank you.

  • @snowman3ater

    Thanks.

I'll do a few pure "survival" videos.

Most of the friction fires (hand drill, bow drill, fire saw, thong etc.) are easily possible with stone age tools. If you're in the right area to find pyrite and flint (or chert), and can find a decent spark-catcher, rocks also work.

Unfortunately, very few areas of the world are still true wilderness. Except for the poles, there's almost certainly going to be some man-made materials lying around.

  • @snowman3ater

Now You want to grip Your rock in such a way to keep Your knuckles away from then sharp teeth of the fire,or else You're going to have a serious...

    ...AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

  • @snowman3ater

    1:50

"Now You want to grip Your rock in such a way to keep Your knuckles away from then sharp teeth of the fire,or else You're going to have a serious...

    ...AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!"

  • ahahahahaaaa "ARABRYARHH!!!!!!!!!" 2:00

  • ouga buga

  • Rob, your videos are great! I researsch on Physics teaching using video, I always say the good video doesn´t hide the mistakes you (should/can) make when you´re making the experiment. In this video (and in others i saw) you do exactly that! You started making fire when there was sun, and finished it in the dark. After a couple of F&@*@$, showing the difficult, you finally show it´s possible, in a funny way! Congratulations! Grade A+ lol

  • safety tip 2:01 &2:24 very useful. watch them fingers!

  • great vids

  • @sam421kc

In your fantasy life, people probably listen to you when you bark orders and insult them.

In the real world (certainly where I come from) that sort of behaviour is likely to get you punched in the nose. On a good day.

You're welcome to criticize my presentation style or make suggestions about what you'd like to see. I even made a video where you are invited to insult me in the comments.

Over here, we're talking about fires. Feel free to contribute....

  • hey rob add me u were screaming cuz u scractch ur hand or cut it rite??

  • @daredevil820

Mostly from frustration at not getting it right on camera, even though I'd managed perfectly a few minutes before.

And the frustration causes loss of concentration and that causes pain.

I scrpaed my knuckles on the rasp and knocked my hand on the tin can.

    Nothing permanent.

  • wow he kept burning himself and he still make fire

  • Hey you posted this 1 day from my b day :D mines on the 12th

  • @ChainSaw771

Let me be the first to wish you a happy birthday then.

  • @ROBwithaB Hey thanks :)

  • Grip your ROCK in such a way to your kncukles away from the sharp teeth of the file..Other wise your gonna have a seri AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!...LOL!

  • your screams are sexy!

  • lmfao aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL thank you ladies

  • a good mix of comedy and instruction, you make a great teacher!

  • You know what you need..?

You need an assistant 'cause then he'd be the one screaming in pain,

and you'd be the one laughing his ass off.

  • Mel Gibson mutch?

  • dude your rage when you knock over the can is amazing xD

  • @NinjaFireProductions I think it was frome him cuting him self on the rasp that maid him scream.

  • FIRE!!!

  • @mxrida97

    Second cousin, twice removed.

  • Your videos are HILARIOUS! Oh, and informative, too.

  • @ptpike1

    Thanks. More on the way.

  • Did you really got hurt?

  • @scavenski

Not badly. The shouting was mostly driven by the frustration of not being able to do something that I had done perfectly many times in practice before I turned on the camera.

    All better now.

  • yep in the stone age they always said AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

  • LMAO from like halfway onwards I couldn't stop laughing. Favourited LOL.

  • @GeorgeyBoy13

    Thanks.

    Pleased you enjoyed.

  • AHHHH!!!

  • @rob were do u get the ideas from?

  • @123rickross

    University of google.

    And lots of experimentation....

    Johny Cash "Ring of Fire"

  • mayb u shoud av oned your primitive light

  • @pokemonhalo

    Cheers.
