  • why some people always look at the bad stuff??? if this guys like to put their equipment on the ground is their problem, apperantly they are doing pretty good since they can bring 3 or 4 bodies to a wedding.

who cares how they use the flash? the samples shown are pretty good so they are doing something right.

pro cameras and lens are dust proof, putting em on grass is not gonna do anything.

good job guys and thanks for sharing some tips.

  • Good job guys. Those two pictures came out good.

  • @ canturgan - But yes they look clumsy, I wouldn't do this in Central Australia, bull dust (finer that flour) will get inside the lens even with my L lenses!

  • 1:03 that was close! = )

anyway, thank you so much for sharing this!

  • Love the colors of those photos, what settings were those or did you use ps or lightroom?

  • What cameras where they using?

  • We were using the 30D and 40D back then, but use 5D MKII's now. Thanks for the question.

  • Stofen is not a bounce device it is a bare bulb diffuser

  • yep said in one lets look pros by running around etc etc

  • Stofen on your flash outdoors? What are you bouncing off of, the clouds? Lose the stofen outdoors and save your batteries.

  • Thanks for the comment harfordsports but we prefer the slightly more diffused light that you get from using an Omnibounce, even outdoors, plus leaving omnibounces on the flashes all the time has the advantage that your able to see that they are firing much easier when your using them remotely off camera. Good quality mih 2700 batteries and lots of them ensures we never run out of power.

  • Unfortunately you are not getting softer light. Softer light is created by enlarging the light source in relation to the subject. The stofen's spread the light all over the place. Outdoors, with no walls or ceilings to bounce back onto your subject, you are wasting all of that, and the exact same size of the light source is hitting your subject. You will have the exact same results without the stofen outdoors, except you will need less flash power to do so.

  • @harfordsports I also use flash outdoors. Whether it's on camera or mono-light, it gives a nice "overpowering the sun" look. If you're someone who likes to use all natural light, that's your prerogative, others prefer the effect of flash.

Also, just because the flash head is angled, doesn't mean it's being bounced. With a diffuser such as the omnibounce, Gary Gong, et al, you can Feather the light just to add a little fill so that the use of flash is not apparent. Have you done this before?

  • Leaving cameras on the ground is a no no, dirt, dust, boots, trip, ouch.

  • Theres always something to get bounce off even outdoors, whether its people, walls or other random stuff and like I said, battery power has never been an issue for us so were happy to just leave them in place and not worry about taking them off and putting them back on, if you also shoot weddings I am sure you can appreciate how hectic they are so one less thing to worry about is nice.

  • @canturgan - that's why we have camera insurance :) for in case someone boots it, or it gets damaged........ AND back up gear

  • LOL 4 bodies just lying there to kick around... funny! Good shots at a simple set-up!
