In context this dream sequence was totally bizarre - it seemed to come from nowhere! But hey, maybe Guy should have given up on Marian and got together with Allan instead - Allan's great, the two of them have chemistry, and things could hardly have turned out any worse than they did with her :-)

The writers admitted in an interview that they threw Allan into the dream sequence just because they knew people would talk about it, so if it seemed kinda random, that's because it is random. The writers did it for kicks.
