the way to kill a squid without making it suffer more than it has to is to run a long sharp knife up its esophagus and cut out and away. the reason is that all mollusks with a central nervous system and arthropods and pretty much any animal with a brain that isnt under craniata, the brain is not isolated in its own private cavity but instead is shaped like a donut and encapsulates the esophagus of all structures. yes, they can suffer brain damage if they dont chew their food enough.

How else do you expect anyone to eat it? would you rather have someone shoot it in the head first? If we have to make sure its dead before slicing it up, there's no point in trying to eat it in the first place. It's a fricken squid for pete's sake! Eating the squid alive is also a delicacy.
